Inner city bike couriers are still very much a thing, especially since original documents are often needed.
That being said, I used to work as one. This movie is like Fallout New Vegas in that it overhypes a really crappy job. A courier is nowhere near as glorious or glamourus as depicted. And not paid nearly enough to pay bills.

This was a great movie. They used a lot of aspects of this from bike messenger documentaries… The Who song in the intro was from a documentary called Macaframa. The “pay heed” guy was similar to a guy from the documentary Pedal. There were a lot of references to different bike messenger and cycling documentaries
