"Steed Tours" - Climbing the Swiss Alps in a Defender

- Steed Tours provides personalized tours through the Swiss Alps with one of the most legendary off-road vehicles ever to exist, a Land Rover Defender.
After spending years in Germany, American David Steed decided to relocate to Switzerland for a chance of pace. Discovering the many roads typically out of reach of normal cars, Steed made good on a promise to himself to one day own a Land Rover Defender.
Jumping in with both feet, him and his wife quickly became infatuated with the experience it afforded them in their own backyard, the Gastlosen region of the Swiss Alps.
Learning the area, David decided that the experience his family was enjoying was not enough, and started a small tour company to offer local access to some of the most remote parts of the region.
Steed Tours are above all else personal and echo David's immense love for the area. We were fortunate enough to spend two days with him over the summer and cannot wait to go back.
Thanks again to David and his family for all the hospitality!

I did a road trip through southern Europe and I’m hooked. That’s the dream. Scenery, cultures, people, food, roads, all of it. Switzerland was something else. Life long goal is to ship my 4Runner to Europe and relive that trip with my sons
Funny, I'm Swiss, live in the US for 30 years and drive a 1971 Jeepster Commando Hurst. I now a dual citizen and like you call two countries my home. I also owned many cars and motorcyles, did organise motorcycle tours for Europeans in the US, raced vintage cars, climbed mountains in the Himalaya and the Andes etc. Why we travel abroad to find a different lifestyle, that we also could have found just at home, is a mystery to me. I did travelled the globe for over 40 years to almost 50 countries, but Swizerland and the US are the best places to live! Hope your business is still going well after we have Covid behind us!
The beauty of life is that we're all a part of it. What a great scenery!
Blown away, from the car, the scenery, the guys way of looking at life, the videography. Wow! Superb work!
Wow. Thanks Benjamin!

Very cool!! I dig it!
In a word, Beautiful
I see this in kind of 2 ways... first I love the defender, the freedom to drive everywhere... and yea you pointed the beautiful nature here in switzerland.. but on the other hand.. I think if people are driving offroad into the mountains.. they bring noise, bad air etc. into that silent, stunning world .... I mean when I'd be up there.. hiked for hours maybe sleeping overnight in my biwak or tarp... I'd be pretty pissed off if a group of offroad cars would pass me... get's out of their cars and yell around. ..
That is a very selfish comment this obviously enables people who can’t hike for hours and camp out to experience these beautiful views I can’t imagine there are hundreds of Landrover’s driving around 24 hours a day.. but I do agree with your comment in a way , there are so many beautiful places spoiled by over use /population, London for a starter!!
I'm diggin' it
this is one of my favourite videos on youtube! have watched it a dozen times!

Very nice video! :)
As you say (1:35) "... driving full speed on the Autobahn is nothing compared to the thrill of driving 10 km/h on a real steep, dangerous, road in a 4x4" :-)
Yep, it is WAY more exciting, and frightening.... especially the first time!

Ive visited Switzerland twice now . Gelterkinden , Hamikon & Vevey
I would like u sir to take us Tour... Your tour is so Homey... 😍🙏
Inspiring..!! as a LR Defender and mountain lodge owner, I know how is it to transport clients "in to the wild"... on top of such a adventurous machine, anyway I guess better will be to avoid stepping in to the sacred cow´s land. Well done !! I rather contact you in the future...
nice idea, just be mindful and consult with the farmers. driving tourists all over the swiss meadows will surely get you into trouble, even in a nice land rover. a big part of the beauty of switzerland is simply the fact that many places are off limits to private vehicles :-) cheers!
Greetings from the Swiss countryside. Mr. Coutts, Mr. Nowak, and Jump NYC, I hear you!
Indeed this comes up from time to time, and it is a natural response. Some scenes in the video suggest our travel is off-roading/driving through the countryside, but it is not.
The roughest roads we travel are pre-existing farm access roads. Sometimes they are private roads, usually they are public. Regardless of ownership, the farmers / road owners are always consulted. Sometimes they change their minds, and sometimes it is just a seasonal issue. Mostly it has to do with the cows, and cows depend on the grass, and the grass on the undergrowth and dirt.
We work with the farmers and we respect the laws. Otherwise it would not work. The overriding principle is to respect the environment.
The co-founder and partner in this enterprise is my wife Ksenia, who is a PhD in Ecology/Biology. If I was screwing up the countryside, she would kill me!
There is a proper term for this type of travel, called green-laning: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Off-roading#Green_laning
My aim is to show people who love nature and gorgeous surroundings, a different view of it in the course of a day, in a way that respects nature. Thanks! David Steed www.steedtours.ch
Beautiful video. I also own a LR Defender 110, in the German part of Switzerland. Here I didn’t find a single gravel public road which looks fun without a big “cars forbidden” sign in front of it. Seems like you are more fortunate in French speaking Switzerland.
The first G wagon to show up in Africa was a land Rover.
Красиво чистенько и машина хорошая.
Nice video. I live in Switzerland own a defender and series 2a wasn't aware off roading was legal / socially acceptable here. As soon as the tarmac ends there's a prohibition sign. OR.... are you seeking the land owners permission. Great you're living your dream.
Yes, that is always the question, and I ALWAYS get permission first. Sometimes the farmers change their minds- it's part of the ever changing nature of what I do. Off roading is not what I do- "green laning" is the closest description, and that just means driving on pre-existing paths, and only when the cows are not present. It's all about mutual respect. That's it! And, not all dirt roads/paths are private- some, very few, link farms in the mountains and those can be the very best!
Interested in your opinion of a Toyota Land Cruiser. They can go in many many places.
Hi could you tell me in which part of Switzerland you drive when you make this film. I love this film ...do IT mord. Robert
+robert rutkowski im fang
Hi Robert. I live in and do most of my tours in western Switzerland, around the Gruyère district, plus Bern and canton Vaud
i want one
Which cargo box are u using the big black one on the roof ?
The big black box is a rigid roof tent, from James Baroud. The silver one is a cheap aluminium all-around box.
Hi praemio can you share the name of the song at 1:14 in this video?
yeah, please
29 people are just jealous. I am not as I have a Defender :)
Is it legal to go outside of road in Switzerland?
No
@@RoadRunner1291 How much i will pay if catched? So, it makes no sence to buy jeep wranglr/defender in Switzerland, because offroad is illegal?
Your defender is so seductive 😍
What year is that defender ?
2011! +Andres Delgadillo
2011
why such a video like this only got 43k views, 791 likes, and even 6 stupids just disliked, why??
