We share with you our Switzerland 4wd off-road weekend tour, discovering Swiss 4x4 tracks. Doing 4x4 in Switzerland or going for an off-road trip in Switzerland is quite complicated. We did explore a part of some regions like Vaud by 4x4, going 4wd in Fribourg, and Berner Oberland camping. Bivouac in Switzerland & Swiss overlanding provides beautiful scenery and we share with you our first time ever drone footages while overlanding. Enjoy!

△About Off-Track Family:
We are a family of 4 with 2 children. We are overlanding for years now on wild tracks in our Land Rover Defender 110.
Our expedition vehicle is a Land Rover Defender camper conversion. Some people say it’s more like a bug out vehicle but for us it’s the perfect 4wd off-road tourer with best 4x4 camping set-up.
We bought this 4wd rig brand-new in 2009 and the engine is the 2.4 tdci Puma version. We transformed it time after time in a real overland 4x4 touring camper and it’s now a perfect off-grid truck for wild camping, bivouac, or simply as an overlanding Defender.
We love enjoying time in nature and exploring the world as a family.

Nous sommes une famille de 4 dont 2 enfants. Nous voyageons depuis des années sur les pistes dans notre Land Rover Defender 110.
Notre véhicule d’expédition est un Defender aménagé. Certains le décrivent plus comme un véhicule de survie mais pour nous c’est le parfait compromis d’aménagement 4x4 et tout-terrain pour le camping.
Nous avons acheté ce véhicule neuf en 2009 et sa motorisation est un TD4 2.4 tdci Puma. Nous l’avons transformé jour après jour en un parfait tout terrain de camping 4x4 et il nous permet d’être autonomes lors d’un bivouac, d’un voyage 4x4 ou simplement lors d’un voyage en famille.
Nous adorons passer du temps dans la nature et explorer les pistes sauvages du monde entier en famille.

Thanks :) As said to Emil free camping in Switzerland isn't allowed but there are some exceptions, so no GPS points for the moment. But starting to work on a side project to share with 4wd overlanders ;)

Is that a hollowed out tree trunk making a trough at 6.30 ??, that would have been a lot of work to make and move it there, very impressive !!. Thanks for your message! Yes, a fountain made of a huge tree trunk, this is quite common here in the Swiss Alps, and thanks for noticing as sometimes we don't see anymore the beauty in things we see everyday ;)

Beautiful scenery Emeline. We had planned to travel from Ireland to Switzerland in our Defender this summer but it is in doubt know with Corona virus 😭. Would also be interested in the routes if available 😉
Yes that's a very bad situation. We also planned to go to Norway and Sweden but we have to change our plans. We are working on a complete roadbook for Switzerland but it will take some time. Stay tuned!

Incredibly beautiful and some nice drone footage! We toured the Italian Alps last year and got talking to some young Swiss overlanders. They told me while wild camping wasn't allowed in Switzerland if you were sensible no body minded. Is this true?
Thanks for your message! That's always the same problem. Wild camping is not alowed in most places but if you take care to be kind and respectful and leave a clean place when you leave you will be welcome anywhere.

Nous sommes en train de réfléchir à faire un roadbook, mais cela va prendre un peu de temps, car nous n'avions aucune organisation lorsque nous voyageons nous partions simplement explorer sans plan précis. Merci pour le message. Alors Nous travaillons effectivement sur un projet de roadbook, mais nous ne sommes pas très à jour technologiquement parlant au niveau de la navigation, car jusqu'à maintenant nous voyagions principalement sans itinéraire défini et nous allions toujours ou bon nous semble. Nous utilisons un GPS Globe 800 qui permet d'avoir une cartographie routière mais aussi topographique. Par contre nous envisageons de passer prochainement sur une tablette, car au final, nous utilisons aussi beaucoup d'autres applications. Pour ce qui est des pistes de montagne, bon nombre de pistes doivent être fermés l'hiver à cause de la neige et l'été à cause des vaches, mais nous avons prévu d'explorer un peu plus en détail la Suisse cet été. Nous ne manquerons pas de publier tout cela.

We don’t do that but you might be able to find something on the internet. Off-road isn’t allowed in Switzerland ;)

Merci! Oui ça fume un peu trop... à vérifier. C'est très souvent au feeling mais maintenant on se met à jour pour explorer la Suisse avec swissmobile. A tester correctement sur le long terme.

Why is 4x4 complicated in Switzerland?
Most tracks have forbidden signs and if no sign there are very often "state" laws that forbiddens motorised vehicles to enter forests for example. If you want to do it the right way, you need an authorisation from every land owner.

Yes unfortunately Switzerland isn’t very friendly for accessing nice tracks, so it’s at your own risk to go or not. Okay ways to do it is reaching “restaurant d’alpage” or being part of a 4x4 association who organises some outings throughout the country.
