I opted for the Combo Touch for my M1 iPad Air but I got the previous version with the pseudo fabric texture, which I prefer, and I saved money to boot.
I use an MX Keys Mini for my older 12.9” iPad Pro. I like the fact that you can separate the keyboard from the iPad to use it at eye height, which the Bluetooth-connected Logitech setup doesn’t allow. Plus you can connect other devices. And I won’t have to get a whole new outfit when you upgrade iPads, which you do when you have a combo case + keyboard that only works with that specific iPad
That's a great point about having to get a whole new outfit when you upgrade iPads. I think Apple are really pushing it (even for them) asking for iPad money for a simple keyboard case.
I tested both the Apple Magic Keyboard and the Logitech Comb on my iPad Air M2. I love the Logitech, especially for the freedom of detaching the keyboard. However, I’ve noticed an issue with the Logitech keys (particularly in the middle of the keyboard) feeling loose-they sink more than usual when typing. This isn’t an issue with the Apple Magic Keyboard; its keys feel much sturdier, like a proper keyboard. Has anyone else experienced this with the Logitech? I bought mine from Amazon, and I’m wondering if the ones sold at the Apple Store might have better quality, especially regarding the keyboard. Would love to hear your thoughts!
I’ve noticed that Logitech keyboards in general are ‘mushier’ than other brands. Some people like the softer actuation but I just find that they slow me down. This isn’t unique to the Combo Touch, the mechanical keyboards are like this too.
@@jakibotham5600 Thanks Jaki. Yep there’s a big trade off with weight. Got an AWESOME lightweight iPad keyboard to show you in my next video though…stay tuned.
I have and highly recommend the Procase line of keyboards for ipads. They cost around $50 and are well worth it. I have them for my 12.9” ipad pro and ipad mini. They come with a case that includes a cover and the keyboard is attached to the cover magnetically. This is great, because if you don't need the keyboard at that moment, you can leave it behind and use the case/cover without it.... The cases also have a protective space for your pencil so that it can charge while packed and won’t get lost in your bag. For my 11" iPad Pro, I have the magic keyboard, it is ok, but I wish I could flip it all the way around to use the iPad without a keyboard instead of having to remove it....
I think Logitech’s combo gives the best of both worlds and offers a little more protection than Apple’s Magic Keyboard. I keep my iPad in a case and have a Logitech keys to go (the older version) portable keyboard should I feel the need to type rather than scribble with the Apple Pencil. Another great video Mark!
Logitech combo I feel like would be the one better for me as I use iPad as a tablet and notepad way more than I use it to type with. If only they came out with a way to have the floating iPad set up and then fold it back as tablet
I’ve bought the Logitech combo and I wasn’t happy with it. The quality is really bad, after 2 month it Looks like it’s several years old. And I mostly used it at home - so I returned it. No I’m looking again for the perfect keyboard solution 😀
I think there is a lot of people that prefer a Case that is rising up the iPad but want a portable easy to carry keyboard for those occasional keyboard tasks that might come up but want to keep their footprint as low as possible. Have you had a look at the foldable options? Are there any good ones? I feel like most of them don‘t have the quality and functionality I am looking for.
There are some super-thin foldable ones (Microsoft's 'made for apple' product springs to mind)... they were too thin for me though. A good option if you're wanting something that's 'barely there' in your bag!
You have overlooked and not mentioned the various keyboards weight. For example the Apple magic keyboard weight almost the same as the iPad. Making the combo very heavy. Even if I put the price aside this is the most annoying thing in Apple iPad keyboard solution. Not to mention that there is no place for the Apple Pencil
The Apple Magic Keyboard (like with an iMac) is 239 grams and has 3rd party cases similar to the Nuphy one. It retails for $99 and is smaller and lighter than the mechanical ones. I have the Nuphy which I love, but it is a bit bulky and heavy in a bag. Nuphy is much better to type on, but the apple one I’ve had for many years is good when space / weight is at a premium.
I have the iPad Pro 11 with magic keyboard and I semi hate it. It is OK at home when you don’t move it. However if I go on vacation I think twice if to take it since the combo is so heavy that I prefer my iPhone 15 pro max. So I find most of the time that my iPad 11 pro is doing nothing. Also the fact that there is no place for a pen makes the Apple case so so since it case me not to use the pen (if I don’t force myself)
Where's the real budget king Logitech Pebble Keys 2 K380s? Magic keys are good, but they don't offer much protection. if your iPad accidentally fell down, or smth it won't protect. personally. i prefer equipping my iPad with a protective case like spigen tough armor, and then using K380s for their keyboard. the only problem with separate keyboard is the space it will take on your bag. some people loves travelling light. with only small bags.. and only the magic keyboard and the logitech combo touch can fit in the small bags bcs they pretty much only the size of the iPad. sadly, most of the keyboards mentioned here won't fit small bags. Edit: i've recently sold my iPad and switched to samsung tab s9. but the experience in this particular case is pretty much the same, with samsung has their overpriced premium samsung keyboard cover as opposed to apple's magic keyboard. a separate bluetooth keyboard is better because then we can put a protective case to the tablet and get rid of the keyboard when we don't need it. oh and i also one of those ppl who likes to travel with small messenger briefcase that fits my samsung tab.
I really need to try one of these Galaxy Tabs! Thanks for this. I tried the K380S but couldn’t get on with the typing feel/sound. Logitech boards just aren’t for me I think. Even the premium ones set my teeth on edge. If you’re after portability, I’ve got a keyboard coming in a sling bag review this week which should get your interest!!
@@ThatMarkGilroy that will be awesome!! most tablet users i know (iPad and android tabs) bought their tablet because they after the portability. where they basically need large screen phone to do light duty works such as emails, docs reviewing, or just netflix. So the portability is definitely an issue. if i may suggest, please include the sling bag size as portability issue. Most bags i see in the market offers size that can fit a 11 inch iPad but not much of good keyboards on the market can fit into said bag. The length of the bags are just long enough to fit the tablet, but not long enough to fit even 60%-75% low profile mechanical keyboards. i tried some chinese brand membrane bluetooth keyboards but the typing feel are just not for me. the best i can find is K380s tho.. but it's still a tough fit for sling bags. i will look forward to that video! you just get yourself a subscriber!!
@@ThatMarkGilroy the keys to go 2! I reminded myself that I have a MacBook Air and a 12.9 inch iPad Pro with a Smart Keyboard Folio, so the 11 inch iPad Air fills a different slot for me.
Which one of these would be on your shortlist? Did I miss any good keyboard options for iPads in my list?
I opted for the Combo Touch for my M1 iPad Air but I got the previous version with the pseudo fabric texture, which I prefer, and I saved money to boot.
I think the fabric is much nicer too. I just bought the new Paperlike folio which does a better job at keeping the pencil attached.

- Combo Touch (11”) 474g
