    Josh, I am very much new to audiobook recording and nearly tossed $400 worth of equipment into the street! I’m excited to try your tactics. Tell me though, is it more often than not that most voice recordings do not pass the acx check right off the bat with no editing? Because I have tried tweaking my gain, loudness, etc on my equipment and I still couldn’t get it to pass thinking it HAD to pass just from my equipment alone and no editing. Your input is so so appreciated!

    HI, I've been going through a ton of your videos lately because I use Audacity for singing covers. I sing sort of breathy lol and I was wondering what and how you recommend getting rid fo alot of airy sounds and breathing in a recording; thanks so much for the effort you put in your content! Been subbed for 2 days now!

    • @VoiceOverMaster
      @VoiceOverMaster  2 года назад +2

      EQing can definitely help the airy sounding vocals. Noisegate can help stifle the breaths. The custom EQ course will help your sound immensely. Reach out via email if you’re interested. Thanks for the sub! Good luck 😊

    Question. So apparently acx is used more so for audiobooks, so for the purposes of using it for podcasting and livestream or even voice overs, how stringent would u want to be with the numbers? Like do u look for your audio to pass each test dead on or are u ok with the numbers being slightly off as long as it sounds ok by ear?

    so you're using the Limiter effect here, in a previous video you showed us how to use Noise Gate... do you prefer using the "Limiter" effect to Noise Gate or Noise Reduction?
    so appreciate, much thank. ,-)

    • @VoiceOverMaster
      @VoiceOverMaster  2 года назад +1

      Limiter is completely different from noise reduction or gate. If I had to pick, I’d pick noise gate. Limiter is always useful

    Hey just curious I use RX 8 standard will your EQ/Noise floor help with that or the tools already inside of izotope will help with that (using my brothers RX 8 by the way i just hear RX 8 standard/advance is one of the most vital things to get ahead) basically what boothjunkie said on his channel. thanks so much!

    I started using your filter curve preset for rap vocals. I mute all the spots in my recordings with no vocals going, apply filter curve, compress, then normalize. I think when I listen closely, parts sound a bit watery. I'm using a USB condenser mic with really solid quality pre-effects. Am I applying them in the correct order? Do you recommend something different?

    • @VoiceOverMaster
      @VoiceOverMaster  2 года назад +2

      Hey, the filter curve works well for some people but not everyone because there’s no 1 size fits all when it comes to EQ. I’d duplicate the track and leave the eq off of one then decide which sounds better. If you had an eq custom made for you it would be fire tho. Good luck buddy 🤙

  • @KWNelsonVO
    @KWNelsonVO 2 года назад +2

    Hey Josh! Quick question- how does this method work on longer files? For example, when I tested this method out with a chapter I recently recorded that was 18 minutes long, the loudness normalization set as shown in the video, and then used the male eq on I had a lot of peaks that where red due to being at 0db, so I used the hard limiter set to -3.2db. However, when I did this it made the tops & bottoms of 80-90% of the waveforms flat where it shows that it cut off. The file did pass the ACX check, but I am wondering if this made the quality of the audio worse? Asking because I know that it isnt feesible to use a long file in an example to explain knowledge you blessed us with today, but wanting to improve my workflow for my audiobook narration. Normally I apply the filter curve eq -> normalize -> compress -> normalize -> acx check -> and then loudness normalization to RMS of 22.5 if I am not within the passing range, and finally RX8 de-voice & de-click to catch any background noise or mouth clicks, but this method takes a lot of time and also doesn't always lead to the best quality audio file either.

    • @VoiceOverMaster
      @VoiceOverMaster  2 года назад +2

      Your work floor is perfectly fine. If you had a custom eq for you specifically with some nice cuts it would actually shrink the wave form when used after loudness normalization. Then when we set the limiter it will essentially cut less of the wave form. Don’t worry about the limiter chopping off some wave. As long as it doesn’t sound like trash to you and it’s passing then it’s all good! You could definitely benefit from the course. Good luck buddy!

    In your other video from 2020 (ruclips.net/video/6Q1WFmOF1Uc/видео.html) you suggested to use a different flow: EQ (a different preset), Compress, Normalize.
    When should I use that flow and when should I use the flow that you explained here (Loudness Normalization, EQ with Josh Meyer's Male EQ Download, Limiter) ?
    Thanks a lot!

    THUMBS DOWN Well no I don't really know how to pass ACX anytime... because I have to buy your EQ course to be able to create a custom EQ to complete the four step process. This entire video was basically a sales pitch. You didn't even scratch the steps that explain how to lower noise floor and pass ACX noise floor requirements, which is why I clicked in this video. So if I sound perturbed, it's because I am. I'm giving it a thumbs down for the simple fact that this is click bait.
