    That's an interesting way of doing it. I, personally, create an empty mono track and then generate noise (Brownian: 0.002). Then I mix the two tracks into a new track before exporting in .mp3. This will move the noise floor of your finished track from -120db to -70db and pass the ACX check with flying colors. I have to say that the concept of too little noise is baffling to me.

    Super helpful tute 👍 Applying this fix for 'dead silence sounds unnatural' with reductions over 92.
    Unfortunately applying more than once (if not fixed the first time...which has happened 😒) has resulted in my narration track sounding 'boomy' bassey, or plosive in places that are not. Suggestions?

    Any idea how to fix a -infinte noise floor? I just recorded my first acx audition and used the acx check. I tried your tips and some others I found in my search for answers for but can't seem to get a number on my noise floor at all, just keep getting negative infinite. Do I just need to re-record the whole thing? And if so how do I keep that from happening in the future?

    • @VoiceOverMaster

    Question on the noisefloor. If your not killing your noise floor how do u make sure your floor is low enough that it’s not bringing in mic noise, especially in gaps where your not speaking? When ever I record my mic is constantly bouncing at just below 54 even when I’m silent, which I guess is not too bad but obviously there’s noise there. Granted my rooms untreated, which brings me to my next question. If I’m going to treat my room to get rid of ambience which could potentially stop my mic bouncing when I’m not speaking, how do you treat the ambience in a way your not killing your noise floor? Coz surely it’s the room ambience that’s preventing your floor from not being dead even if ur in a naturally echoey room no?

    Hi Josh, I recorded a clip who has too much room echo affecting the voices. Is there a straightforward way to fix this in Audacity? I've tried a few things based on tutorials etc but I'm still nowhere near the sound I want. Tinkering too much with the audio file reduces the volume and then turning that back up in the project just sounds rough. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks Julie

    Hi. Thank you for your videos, it really helps a lot. I have one question, by editing my first podcast episode, I have some trouble with noise and when I start with a noise gate, it works pretty cool, but after loudness normalization and limiter, I have again same situation with a noise.
    And maybe one suggestion, it would be very cool, If you would make one video about editing podcast, when I have two and more speakers, I think it has some specific issues.
    Again, thank you for your videos:)

  • @johncameron5884
    @johncameron5884 2 года назад +1

    Josh, love your vids and free EQ's, much appreciated and I've learned a lot. However, I don't like this method of raising the noise floor. If your noise floor starts out REALLY low, and you do this repetitive EQ adjustment, and then lop the peaks, you can really trash the audio. This can all be avoided. Take a sample of room tone that's louder than the existing room tone (just amplify a sample of what's already there), loop it until it's the length of your project, and mix the tracks. It may take a few tries to get the balance right but it's an instant boost to your noise floor and doesn't wash out the audio as much. Cheers!

      ^ This is the correct (or at least a better) solution. A much cleaner final result than using EQ.

  • @adamp7958

    I must be doing something wrong, because when I apply a graphic EQ as shown, it completely distorts my audio track. When you apply it in the video, there's no noticable effect on the track at all, but when I do it, it literally changes everything (even if I only change 20 or 25 and/or 20k). Does it matter if you apply this EQ before or after other effects, such as compression?

      from what ive seen, you dont want to add silence - instead you want to cut a piece of the room tone and place it over whatever you wanna cover up.
