Does the hat not shrink and get deformed during the drying process? I have a $30 Fox hat I want to clean but it fits so well I don't want to ruin it like I did my last one.

One little suggestion … ball up a hand towel and put it under the hat while it’s drying. Helps keep the shape and also absorbs some of the water.
That's what I do as well. It works like a charm. When you remove the towel you can feel all of the moisture it extracted from the hat.

If it is an unstructured hat, wear it while it is still damp so it forms to your head.

With a TOOTH BRUSH, SCRUB BRUSH, MY FINGERS.
With COLD, WARM and HOT WATER !

Biggest thing for me is a hat shrinking or losing its form.
For the form after you wash it blow a balloon inside the hat and it will keep the form 👍

How effective is this method? I tried just soaking it all free clear but that didn’t get the stains out. Might need to invest in oxiclean and try again
Thanks for the video Andrea. I wear a hat to work 12+ hours and I usually just throw them in the washing machine; however, we all know how well that works out. I'm going to try your method today.

Spartans can’t stand Dawn dish soap.
Because Dawn is tough on grease.
I'm usually not into wearing but since covid happened and I cant cut my hair as mutch I started wearing hats and I need to clean it
I go the simple route, half cup of lukewarm water, couple drops dawn dish soap and the soft yellow side of a dish scrub (not the rough green side). Scrub lightly in circular motion. I make sure not to soak the hat with water, just enough to damp it a bit and get the stains out. Air dry over night, never under the sun and thats that. 👌🏼
Just did that and it fucking sucks. You clearly don't have any white hats cause mine has a white patch and when I tried scrubbing lightly in a circular motion on the sweat it just spread dark all around. Now my patch has a huge dark portion.

Hats get ruined in the dishwasher unless they have a hard plastic brim. Fitted wool hats get ruined the most.
Just got a Brand new Nyy,very paranoid about it so had to come here,i was just about to leave it in a tub of water for An hour.

My mom used to use a margarine container or small coffee can to help cap keep its shape while drying, depends on shape of cap /person's head. Just an 'old school' suggestion.
So you don’t recommend to wash the hat in the washing machine? Also, what do you do with a white hat? How do you clean them and what’s the best way to dry them up so that they can keep their shape? And is there anything you can do if you already washed the carpet in a washing machine and they got wrinkle is there anything you can do to bring it back?
My dumbass put it in the laundry with my clothes nd now it sits on my head weirdly.

If it's real bad, also use vinegar. Do this Dawn soak+brush, rinse, then spray it with vinegar. Let it sit for at least an hour, rinse and repeat if necessary.

I have a bump cap insert for my hat that I have to wear at certain job sites for work , I used that after cleaning and it kept the shape perfectly !

I like to wear my dirty hats to school. I get a swirly a couple times a day and just leave my hat on while it happens. Cleans my hat like a charm! Besides when there's poo or pee in the toilet 😔 Then it doesn't come out so great. I recommend self swirlys st home in a pre 😳 toilet.

He says it to "condition me to pain" so when the beat me up at school it won't bother me as much. I don't like it. He also blindfolds me because he says he has to check my temperature. It's weird. It's one if those butt thermometers and it's as big as a hotdog. It takes a couple minutes and hurts pretty bad when he does it. Take it from me. Counselors aren't fun! So I stopped going.

In the past I used large peach cans that fit the hat near perfect for drying.
Lately I use the large plastic Folgers coffee cans as a drying rack/form.
Will this work for vintage cardboard bills?
Why not just use regular detergent over dawn?
You can also soak it in soap water for like an hour and then brush the stains. I would also recommend drying it in the sun instead of your home because next time you sweat in it it's gonna smell.
Yeah, this will work best with monochromatic hats. Anything with Red, White and Blue such as my Buffalo Bills and NY Giants hats the colors bleed. Even in cold water.
I just wear my hat right away after washing it, and let it dry out on my head. That way it doesn't lose it's shape.
Just stuff an old shirt or something in it
To dry it, put it in a pillow case and put in the dryer. close the dryer door on the pillowcase to let it hand and dry, then turn it on

Thanks for this! I am definately going to be using this method. I did notice that sometimes the hat tag will tell you if it should be washed with warm or cold water. My White hat says "hand wash cold" so just be aware of that.

That's what I was thinking. My main concern is having the hat wrinkle up. Does drying it that way prevent wrinkling? Some of my favorite hats have been ruined that way, and I have some nice ones that I'd love to clean up, but haven't been willing to risk it

I got the same result by just throwing my caps in the washing machine and running it on a short 30°C hand wash program with a light amount of non-bleach laundry detergent. Of course before doing this make sure the brim of the cap is plastic and not cardboard as that could be a disaster.
Idk if this has been said but I’m a Walmart temporary remodel employee, this is very helpful, I am waiting for my hat and vest to dry, I believe this is the best way to do it tho, starting my weekend washing my work uniform 😂😂 but you have been realy helpful I just got it done and it seems like it’s helped at least 90% of what I need so thank you so much❤️ the cleaning toothbrush seemed to be the best so far!! To dry your hat set it On top of a Plastic coffee can One big enough to keep it off the surface you're setting it on I am a Civil War fanatic and. I have Union Capri hat And have seen online to use a coffee can to keep it shape I figured that would work with drying your hats too.
i dry my hats with the underside, flipping the head band out facing the sun. it kills the organic matter that causes bad mildewy odor.
