There were a few steps he just completely skipped. If you don't rinse, the grime and sweat will leave stains when it dries. See all that grime and dirt is just being pushed into the fabric, he should have started from the inside of the hat, then cleaned the outer area and rinse. Just using logic will tell you that, it came out pretty clean but he didn't wait till it was fully dry to show it. Also that brush he used will fray the fabric of the hat. Best thing to use is actually the towels he put inside the hat.

taping the edges of the brim and using some plastic to cover it can keep it from getting wet if the brim doesn’t need to be cleaned
