I bet spraying water on hat, then vacuum it will remove the sweat stain. Salt would have to be sucked out if fibers, rubbing with a eraser won't do b the job. Lol on this
Another great way to clean hats is to “take it into the SHOWER” with you and clean it the same way you shower yourself. It will remove ALL stains and sweat smell along with keeping the bill perfect. You may use a little scrub brush lightly around the inside or on tough stains. Haven’t tried a “Magic Eraser” yet but it is on the list now. This technique has worked awesome on all my golf, fishing, yard work, garage hats. Good luck
Yep, can't agree more. All the same crud that gets your hair filthy, gets your hats the same way. So, cleaning it with the same product works. A little shampoo will do ya and rinses it all away nicely. I have been doing it this way for years with hats and before that with my uniform hats it my Army days. Oh, and it keeps wool and cotton hats from shrinking and distorting as well.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned before. A few years ago, I started using Scotchguard on new hats. I put three good coats and let the hat dry for 24 hours before using. It has proven to keep things significantly cleaner longer. I have some older hats I will be trying this method on. Thanks guys!
Twenty years ago I read an article on this subject and this method works great. Place the dirty caps into a clean empty dishwasher on the top rack and use dishwasher detergent and leave in there through the drying cycle and then open and allow to completely air dry. This method cleans and sanitizes and does not destroy the shape of the caps and visors.
Thanks for the suggestion. I was doubtful, but tried it on a hat I was about to toss out, and it really does work amazingly well. Gave me new life for a favorite hat.
@@milesmeow I have only done it the one time, but my hat had grime ground into it, not just sweat stains. I have never tried just a normal sponge, but the magic eraser trick worked really well.
@@wavydude5560 No, I don’t think so. To me, the hat looked like it was still wet. They never really showed it to us when it had fully dried. There is no way it can restore colorization to an obviously faded hat in addition to the sweat, body oils, and grime. And I don’t understand how it could remove body oils that have penetrated into the material. You need a soap product to emulsify the oils. Their suggested product may only be good for some light surface dirt. I think there is truly some magic going on here!

Late to the party, but I've always used shampoo. May as well use a soap design specifically for the gunk on the hat and its wool safe for my good ballcaps. I put a lot on the dirty areas of the hat, work it in good with no water and let it sit for 5 or ten minutes to break down the hair oils and salt. I do that while I take a shower so when I'm done scrubbing myself I can scrub and rinse out the hat. Hang dry and good as new.
I've ruined every hat I ever put in the wash with some clothes. The bill material shreds. Every time. Never tried one of those gadgets supposedly designed to hold and protect your hat in the washer. I suspect they're bogus in their claims. Will try the shower thing-- could have them all done in a week. But, since I'm kinda lazy, may take a month because I won't include a hat every shower. Also, not willing to risk Mickey and all his cartoon buddies on my Disney World hat-- careful observations of my other hats in this process will be made prior to that evolution of the process.

You can not only clean but sanitize your baseball hats in the dishwasher. Got rid of stains 10 out of 10… But not the smell, I would recommend also putting in the washer for 10 to 15 on cold and on low spinning with a tide pod/ scent beads or whatever you use to really enforce a clean smell on something. For drying either air dry or low heat in the drier followed by air drying :)
For smell, we’ve heard some great tips for washing with shampoo as well. It may depend on the hat though. Febreeze could be an option for smell as well.
@Requiem -The problem with using the washing machines on" form fitted" hats is that it ruins the "form fitted" part of the hat..washing machines are great for "dad hats" and the like
Such a great idea. I just happened to have one cuz as my guy said they are great for baby messes. Just make sure the moisture or any heat doesn’t warp the hat 🧢
Thanks for the tip. I have a hat I treasure. Great friend got it for me at the press introduction of the Kawasaki ZX14. Only time this hat was issued. I will continue to care for it and now wear it. I was always worried about cleaning and care.
we throw ours in the dishwasher... comes out like new... i don't know if there are any long term effects but i have a white golf hat i've washed a dozen times and it still fits and looks the same
That was awesome. I will try using Magic Eraser on hats that I like to wear but there are a couple that looked like the black one you had demonstrated on. Thank you. My hat is off to you guys! I couldn't help that but I thought the pun was appropriate. lol
I just scrub mine with a bar of soap and an old toothbrush. To dry I ball up a bath towel so it fits really tight inside of the hat. Place it in front of a fan for 3-4 hours and it's good. The only problem there is the hat gets a little stretched out and needs to be worn a little until it fits you just right again.
@@GolfAscending The stretching is from cotton absorbing water. When you wear the hat it starts shrinking as the fibers dry out. It's no different than wearing a wet Tshirt versus dry- wet is loose and baggy until it's fully dried out.
Magic erasers work because the material becomes quite abrasive. It is strong enough that they recommend not using it on smooth marble and granite countertops because it will dull the surface. Is it a good idea using this long term on textiles?
Another way, is the delicate cycle on the washing machine set for 6 minutes. Use a pre stain spray for the sweat stains and add OXY clean to the water. You can soak the caps in the water for a while, before washing. Last step, blow up a balloon enough to fill the cap cavity. Use a clothes pin to hold in the air while the cap dries, then you are able to reuse the balloons in the future.
Not sure if this is mentioned later in the video but another tip is washing hats in a dishwasher and then letting them air dry. Dishwashers are delicate enough and as long as you don’t use the pure hot water setting they clean then amazingly well.
You can find a “hat cage” you can place your hat in for washing in your dishwasher. It works really well. Hats don’t do well when scrubbed with cloths and sponges and you can’t simply wipe the inside of the “sweat band” inside your hat. The dishwasher method works well, the best I’ve ever tried, because it soaks the hat with soap and rinses well. Retain the shape by letting the hat dry in the cage.
Thanks for posting this! My husband‘s favorite hat is disgusting. The last time I washed it, I soaked it in warm water with Dawn and then scrubbed it with a tooth brush. I figured it was either that or the garbage. This looks much easier, and I look forward to trying it.
I used a product from Sam's called Oil Eater. Just sprayed it on an oily, dirty hat, let it soak a few minutes and hosed it off. For drying I put the hat on a one gallon can so it would hold its shape. It came out looking almost new. This method is quick, easy and requires no scrubbing.
Funny...we didn't use a "dry eraser"...and not sure what you're talking about...no residue from the brush and 0 kickback...maybe try it for yourself before false judgments? 🤷
Yeah, rinsing is a must. It may look clean but you didn't remove anything from the hat. You added a cleaner and water, then everything dried. It's all still in there.
@@GolfAscending If you don't rinse out everything you just loosened up, where does it all go? You can't just keep adding sweat, dirt, oil, and cleaner and expect it all just to evaporate. I'm not sure what isn't getting through. I'm not bashing you, I just don't see how that physically makes any sense.
I throw mine in our washing machine. Regular laundry detergent. I then take them out when done and set the hat in one of those white skeleton type baseball hat holders made to wash them in. I find it is easier to wash them in the machine without the hat holder but set the hat in them wet to stay formed like it is suppose to be and let them air dry and they come out perfect.
Amazing results It should be noted that Magic Erasers will leave a film behind but it doesn't appear like it did here or perhaps it's just not noteable.
What ive settled doing is using the dishwasher buying the wonder wash (portable manual washer). But will def get the magic eraser sponge for pre treatment
Tyson has done this multiple times with different types of hats, and they turned out well dry. Brady’s white Cobra hat ended up still having some orange like stains. Might need to try washing it again.
It’s an abrasive sponge that is meant for cleaning difficult to clean substances on just about any hard surface (walls, tables, countertops). Mostly used for cleaning permanent marker.
I have a washing machine that has a deep fill option. I put em all in the washer on gentle cycle. The deep water keeps them from deforming. I wash my hats every time I use them and sweat even a small amount. The bacteria will immediately take over and you can end up with pimples or infections on your head where the band hits.
If your hat is floppy and loses it's ability to hold its' shape laundry starch works wonders. No need to iron it, just spray it form it to the original shape and let it dry.
Simply put hats in the dishwasher top rack (without any dishes). I had feared the visor would disintegrate. No such problem occurred with the several hats cleaned.
I have always used some Shout, let it soak in for some time, then dip the hat in a bucket of soapy water and some vinegar, use a brush and it cleans up real nice.
I’m a big fan of Shout and it really works. I soak it a Couple of times with Shout and scrub it hard with a vegetable brush and put it in my dishwasher. I dry outside in the sunlight . It bounces back like new.
Love this!!! Cleaning husbands golf hats from sweat and tears I like that Byron Don't you have to soak them t to remove all the credit movies and solution? Thanks so. much
I just use warm soapy water with Dawn dish soap or or diluted laundry detergent and I scrub it with a microfiber towel. It works fine, I just make sure not to get the bill too wet to avoid it from getting warped. My hats smell great and look good, I don't think the magic eraser will actually make your hats smell better
Finally. Some that has used their hat as more than a bloody fashion accessory. Usually the hats look pretty clean to me before they start. That's all fine and everything but what if I wear my baseball hat while playing baseball? .thanks so much.
Just buy one of those plastic frames that hold your cap in position and shape and run it through the dishwasher (sans dishes) with the dishwashing soap. When finished, hang it on a clothes line to dry. It dries faster if you hang it outside instead of indoors. The hat will look like new again.
Might look clean while wet but as soon as they dry they are still dirty. I let mine sit in a water vinegar bath submerged then rinse till the water is clear. Then dry use another hat to keep the form, then Scotch guard/starch.

For drying either air dry or low heat in the drier followed by air drying :)
For smell, we’ve heard some great tips for washing with shampoo as well. It may depend on the hat though. Febreeze could be an option for smell as well.
@Requiem -The problem with using the washing machines on" form fitted" hats is that it ruins the "form fitted" part of the hat..washing machines are great for "dad hats" and the like
Thanks for the hat cleaning tip, I used those Mr. Clean things to get a scratch out of my sister's car too. Those things are amazing product.
Whaaaaat??? That works?? Gotta try it!
Such a great idea. I just happened to have one cuz as my guy said they are great for baby messes. Just make sure the moisture or any heat doesn’t warp the hat 🧢
They’re great to have around! Hope it works well for ya!
Thanks for the tip.
I have a hat I treasure. Great friend got it for me at the press introduction of the Kawasaki ZX14. Only time this hat was issued. I will continue to care for it and now wear it. I was always worried about cleaning and care.
Awesome! For important hats, with any cleaning method, always good to test on a small area first.
Wow that’s great. I’m going to try it tmrw on my $200 bape hat that I’ve had for years lol. Might’ve just saved me a lot of money!
Let us know how it goes! We’ve seen success for most hats we’ve tried it on.
Going to tey this pn a Panama hat I have with the sweat stain issue.
Nice! Let us know how it goes!
Thank you for sharing can't wait to try it
Awesome, let us know how it goes!
we throw ours in the dishwasher... comes out like new... i don't know if there are any long term effects but i have a white golf hat i've washed a dozen times and it still fits and looks the same
Nice! It honestly might depend on the hat as well.
That was awesome. I will try using Magic Eraser on hats that I like to wear but there are a couple that looked like the black one you had demonstrated on. Thank you. My hat is off to you guys! I couldn't help that but I thought the pun was appropriate. lol
Haha love it! Thanks!
I’ve put mine in the dish washer with great success…. Not to be a contrarian, but to date, it’s worked for me.
That’s great!
Interesting solution. The stretch out part would definitely be concerning though.
@@GolfAscending The stretching is from cotton absorbing water. When you wear the hat it starts shrinking as the fibers dry out. It's no different than wearing a wet Tshirt versus dry- wet is loose and baggy until it's fully dried out.
Thx y’all I needed this to clean my dad hats he loved them im a junior and it says our name he just passed away a couple days ago thank you 🙏🏼
Glad we could help! Sorry for your loss.
Thx I appreciate it❤️
Thanks so much for taking the time to put this out. My favorite Stetson bucket hat is overdue.
Nice! Hope it helps!
Magic erasers work because the material becomes quite abrasive. It is strong enough that they recommend not using it on smooth marble and granite countertops because it will dull the surface. Is it a good idea using this long term on textiles?
Not sure about textiles. Crazy how strong they are though.
Sounds…complicated. But thanks for the tip!
Will condoms work?
The magic eraser is a very fine sand paper doesn't it disrupt the fibers?
We haven’t seen issues, but different materials can react different, and have varied results.
@@GolfAscending thank you for the reply i need to do that to my hats but on the inside it helps
Excellent tutorial to cleaning a ball cap! Well done!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Too much trouble! Put them on the top rack of your dishwasher, then let them air dry. Couldn't be easier and they look like new when finished.
Tix guys I been looking for that for years!
Great!
Not sure if this is mentioned later in the video but another tip is washing hats in a dishwasher and then letting them air dry. Dishwashers are delicate enough and as long as you don’t use the pure hot water setting they clean then amazingly well.
Good to know! Do you use the heat dry setting?
I will try that on my black baseball cap. I did not want to spray paint it. Will try it and let you know how it worked. 🤞
Great! Hope it works! Let us know how it goes.
That’s the way I do it and it works great with little effort on my part.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for posting this! My husband‘s favorite hat is disgusting. The last time I washed it, I soaked it in warm water with Dawn and then scrubbed it with a tooth brush. I figured it was either that or the garbage. This looks much easier, and I look forward to trying it.
Awesome! Let us know how it goes!
I wash mine in the dishwasher. It works extremely well.
I just put mine in the washing machine. Works great too.
Thanks for the tip!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
You don’t rinse the hat to get the magic eraser stuff off afterwards? Doesn’t it leave like a white residue?
You don't need to rinse the hat afterwords...there is little to no residue...if there is any just brush it off with your hand.
@@kyleduddleston4123 nope, don't need to rinse the hat and my hats are clean...not sure what you're talking about?
@@GolfAscending If you don't rinse out everything you just loosened up, where does it all go? You can't just keep adding sweat, dirt, oil, and cleaner and expect it all just to evaporate. I'm not sure what isn't getting through. I'm not bashing you, I just don't see how that physically makes any sense.
Didn't think that it was gonna work but wow, thank you!!
Awesome! Glad it helped!
Awesome! I didn't know you could use magic eraser on hats. I'm going to try this.
Let us know how it goes!
@@GolfAscending Tried it on a couple hats. It worked amazingly well. Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for the update!
I’ve been told they work super well on shoes too.
@@jacobcline6892 what abotu the smell, how can you just clean it with water ?
I throw mine in our washing machine. Regular laundry detergent. I then take them out when done and set the hat in one of those white skeleton type baseball hat holders made to wash them in. I find it is easier to wash them in the machine without the hat holder but set the hat in them wet to stay formed like it is suppose to be and let them air dry and they come out perfect.
Thanks for the tip!
After cleaning your hats, spray the exterior with "Hat Saver". It works great on preventing sweat stains.
Good to know!
Thanks that helped so much I can finally use my old hats
Awesome! Glad it helped clean your old hats!
Thanks --I usually put it in the washing machine-- They get destroyed in there Too!---I wiull try this trick👍👍
Dang! Hope it goes better this time!
oh wow.
i am definitely stocking up on magic erasers after work today haha.
thanks for the tip!
Ya, no problem! Let us know how it works for ya!
1 thing i have done, after cap is soaked and wet, use a shop vac to suck out the dirty water.... then repeat as needed. cheers
Thanks for the tip!
I just throw mine in the washing machine lol. You make things way harder than they need to be.
For those who don't dare throw it in the washing machine. Sounds like most hats do fine though.
I throw mine in the washer with vinegar in the rinse water. Presto! No major work!
It can fuck up the shape of a lot of hats
Amazing results It should be noted that Magic Erasers will leave a film behind but it doesn't appear like it did here or perhaps it's just not noteable.
We haven’t noticed a film being left behind.
That's super cool. Does it remove smells though?
Not so much of a deodorizer, as it is for cleaning sweat and dirt.
Of just the top layer
What ive settled doing is using the dishwasher buying the wonder wash (portable manual washer). But will def get the magic eraser sponge for pre treatment
Awesome, let us know how it goes!
How they look after they dried tho?
Tyson has done this multiple times with different types of hats, and they turned out well dry. Brady’s white Cobra hat ended up still having some orange like stains. Might need to try washing it again.
Thanks for sharing, I’m going to try this!
Hope it helps!
what if u don’t have a magic eraser
Use our Amazon affiliate link in the description 😁
You go buy one
Dollar store
I'm in England, what is that magic eraser, is it like the non abrasive dish washer sponge?
Thanks!
It’s an abrasive sponge that is meant for cleaning difficult to clean substances on just about any hard surface (walls, tables, countertops). Mostly used for cleaning permanent marker.
@@GolfAscending thank you!
Well that 2nd hat needs a washer in addition, that hat was just plain nasty, it needed soap in addition to Mr Clean eraser!!!!!!!!😝😄
Haha, ya that hat was pretty bad! We used it as an example and to the extreme of what a magic eraser could do.
Oxyclean stain remover works just as well. I just wet the cap brush it on and then rinse it off. The cap looks almost new.
Seems simple enough! Works with all colors?
I even have an easier way. I just throw mine away and have either my dad or mom buy me a new one. Yup. I got it like that.😊
Haha, no lucky hats??
I’m excited to try this. Never heard of using a magic eraser
They're great!
if there no soap was used, that was awesome!
No soap!
@@GolfAscending I just used regular sponge, but my hat still looks dirty. Should I purchase the magic eraser or what else do you think should I do?
Yes, the magic eraser is built in with its own cleaner. It’s usually used to clean permanent marker off of hard surfaces.
@@GolfAscending just curious, do you know what kind of cleaner that is built in Magic eraser?
Actually not sure. The box says “no harsh chemicals” though.
I have a washing machine that has a deep fill option. I put em all in the washer on gentle cycle. The deep water keeps them from deforming. I wash my hats every time I use them and sweat even a small amount. The bacteria will immediately take over and you can end up with pimples or infections on your head where the band hits.
Interesting! Good to know, thanks!
THAT IS THE SHIT THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT INFO!
Haha, no problem! Gotta keep those hats clean!!
Your video really helped, thanks!
Awesome! Glad it helped!
If your hat is floppy and loses it's ability to hold its' shape laundry starch works wonders. No need to iron it, just spray it form it to the original shape and let it dry.
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks it works and my hat is clean
That’s one more clean hat in the world. Thanks for the feedback!
This seems useful, but is there anyway to fix the color of a black hat that started turning green? Or is it a lost cause?
…Green? 😬
Simply put hats in the dishwasher top rack (without any dishes). I had feared the visor would disintegrate. No such problem occurred with the several hats cleaned.
Thanks for the tip!
I put mine in the dishwasher. They come out pretty good!
Thanks for your comment!
I have always used some Shout, let it soak in for some time, then dip the hat in a bucket of soapy water and some vinegar, use a brush and it cleans up real nice.
Nice! Thanks for the tip!
I’m a big fan of Shout and it really works. I soak it a
Couple of times with Shout and scrub it hard with a vegetable brush and put it in my dishwasher. I dry outside in the sunlight . It bounces back like new.
I'm not a big sports guy tbh but I sweat playing instruments and my hats get messy so thank you for this tip
Awesome! Glad you found our video!
Thanks guys! I'm gonna go clean my UK hat now!
Let us know how it goes!
I put ours in the top rack of dishwasher. I also use resolve for a quick clean.
Nice. What’s resolve?
@@GolfAscending A cleaning solution
Any concern about the soap or chemical that’s in the magic eraser? It doesn’t seem like this method gets a rinse at all unless I missed it..
There is no soapy chemical, it’s a strong abrasive.
Love this!!! Cleaning husbands golf hats from sweat and tears I like that Byron
Don't you have to soak them t to remove all the credit movies and solution? Thanks so. much
Thanks! And we showed the entire process for cleaning. Nothing else.
Thanks for sharing! Magic eraser on the hat is definitely more cosmetic, and meant to get those difficult stains out.
I wish I saw this a long time ago. I disposed so many hats that I liked, and they could have been saved
Dang! It’s always worth a try to keep those favorite hats!
Melamine is basically an extremely fine sanding block. I hope you supplement regularly with electrolytes given the white stains on that hat.
Always a good idea!
Finally. Some that has used their hat as more than a bloody fashion accessory. Usually the hats look pretty clean to me before they start. That's all fine and everything but what if I wear my baseball hat while playing baseball? .thanks so much.
No problem.
I’m planning on cleaning/washing a few hats tomorrow and this definitely helps.
Awesome! Glad we could help!
Just buy one of those plastic frames that hold your cap in position and shape and run it through the dishwasher (sans dishes) with the dishwashing soap. When finished, hang it on a clothes line to dry. It dries faster if you hang it outside instead of indoors. The hat will look like new again.
Have you ever had a hat ruined doing that?
@@GolfAscending Nope. The caps always turn out great.
Might look clean while wet but as soon as they dry they are still dirty. I let mine sit in a water vinegar bath submerged then rinse till the water is clear. Then dry use another hat to keep the form, then Scotch guard/starch.
