That Rental Shouldn't Be Here

  • We had some customers come in needing their vehicle retrieved from the middle of Hamburger Hill on Kane Creek Trail. They said they had got hung up on the big ledge and couldn't get out. We loaded up and headed in. On e we reached the vehicle we realized it was a rental car. That's when we started talking with them about how they had got there. They had followed a book rating the trail as 'easy'. Which up until the last 3-4 years it was, but due to flooding and erosion the trail has become increasingly difficult the last few years. Always remember to check updated trail conditions and if possible, never travel alone. We got them out and back on pavement as quickly and safely as we could. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

There was a stock Jeep Grand Wagoneer (1970s) just starting to go toward the town. He was at the first ledge that was only about 18" tall. He asked me if it got worse, and I informed him that it indeed did get worse, much worse, and even if he was going down hill, it would surly screw up the underside of his rig. He turned around. Nice work and great scenery. Couldn't quite make the mud pit, but it was worth a try. Off to the jeep wash.

Good recovery from a great team. It was nice to see Lilly again too. This reminds me NOT to buy a used rental car!

Another reason is rental companies dont claim any accidents with the vehicle. They fix it all in-house.
Makes that car-fax squeaky clean. 😉

Hey, for sure don’t buy one that’s been titled in Hawaii. You would not believe what they do to them here. Trust me, we’ve pulled jeeps out from buried in the sand up to the door panels and mud holes so putrid and deep it’s almost unrecognizable as a jeep. High centered on huge rocks, with crap torn off underneath. I’ve seen it all.
Even tho all rental contracts specify “not for off road use.” lol
Oh and we don’t have a Rory and no tow co will touch them. We just hate to see people’s vacations ruined so we’ll shovel sand for hours, air down tires, tow rope em, whatever we can to get them going again. Nothing like Rory and his guys do tho. lol

As a small boy in South Africa I remember standing next to a fire engine feeling the rumble of a 12 cylinder Rolls Royce engine in my abdomen, it resonated within me.
Thank you for sweet engine noise and amazing scenery.

Little did this family know when they woke up that morning, they were going to get the best off-road spotting and tips they could ever hope to have, regardless of any damage to the rental, I bet they will remember this day for a long, long time, and them sort of memories, don't have a price tag attached.

Good story for these people to tell and watch on RUclips.

I love that the end of any episode, has a comb-over rationale, disclaimer, that releases, any particular person, in the rescue. Rory, that little, admission, about ‘choices you’ve made’, is classic and we , won’t hold you, will will learn, as a result.🤔👈🏽
