Great video! Love the story and now he just won the James Beard award. And special kudos to the content, composition and editor of this video. Love how it was put together with the music and audio! Keep doing your thing bro!
I had to look up Kuya Lord’s hometown halfway through the video because it just sounded soooo much like mine and the crazy thing is that we do come from the same place - Lucena City, Quezon Province. I totally get what he means about trying to start something new on his own and wanting to see how far it can take him - and what a journey it’s been! I can’t wait to visit Kuya Lord one day and taste his food, it looks bomb 💣
The slight delay in his speech pattern is a hallmark of most non-native English speakers. Delaying while the brain in translating back and forth between two languages. He has a great sense of humor though, typical Pinoy, always ready to smile and crack a joke.
here in ph it's a freebies for most restaurants here. I think if he produced in usa then it's made from philippines then i thinks that's a reasonable price. but it's made in u.s then ingredients is from u.s then no need to increase the price.@@bitnbyte3319
As a Filipino, I think Filipino-Americans really are made ignorant of their homeland's culture by what he said at the start, that's why they have cultural identity crisis, some choose to identify as Pacific Islanders or Latinos, but really we have Southeast Asian culture.
Could be very true for not just Filipino Americans but immigrant Americans in general. This is why we need more of people such as Chef Maynard so that we can hear these stories to inspire others even more ✌🏾. Thanks for tuning in!
Yes Filipino American set the path for yall we got along with the other cultures especially African American and pacific islander but Filipinos like you come looking very Chinese and not looking Filipino and you work with other cultures with an attitude they hate yall then yall get good jobs from being educated but you got those jobs because of Filipino American paving the way but eventually you lose that job for being rude and thinking your someone who not and you get a minimum wage job and dont want to go back home.to the Philippines your a sad person for making a comment this guy is not a Filipino American he has a strong accent from the Philippines he state he grew up in the Philippines
In an effort to see how much our content resonates with the audience we wanted see a story that didn’t include that as much to compare to the previous. Great to know that it is still some you would like to see! Will make sure to include it on the next ones just like the previous episodes had . Thanks for leaving this comment. If you have any questions on the menu in the meantime, leave them here, and I will answer as best as I can! Thank you!
@@onlywheretoeat I see. The story is great, but the food is why we as consumers want to eat there. Definitely don’t cut that out, the story pulled me in the food keeps me there. 😋
No sugar coating from me. We have tried this place when we saw it in the LA 101 guide. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The flavors were a bit off for us. It’s been awhile so I don’t exactly remember what we found wrong with the food but for someone who regularly spends $$$/week eating at some of the most hyped up places in LA, it’s not for me/us😕 spoon and pork we find a little better😊
Well, I’m glad that you enjoyed the Filipino cuisine to some extent with spoon and pork. Which speaks to the fact that different flavors or for different people. Our channel doesn’t work if we don’t allow there to be some type of honesty. So we appreciate you even leaving your thoughts and taking a look at this video. All these places are just suggestions and very hard to guarantee what everyone will like, but I guess there in lies the point of this channel. To find different variations of cuisine and hopefully one of these restaurants will be one of the ones you fall in love with! Let’s see if you enjoy our next story✊
Hi, not a basher. Some of the short clip vidoes of the Philippines are not actually from the Philippines. Like the rice teracess it looks like thats taken in bali indonesia.
you probably came from a well off family. im a filipino and still living in the Philippines. i mean you cant just say you want to live in america just to teach yourself how to be independent. for us the middle to low class citizen its much harder to even go to other country.
Chef Maynard went to culinary school and learned techniques to help him develop as a chef. French and Italian to signify the different styles and methods he’s learned over the years!
Uh huh... Filipino food is yummy and delicious. Sure. But this is not gourmet. This is just basic regular filipino food. This stuff costs 1-2 dollars per serving in philippines.
Seems to be a misunderstanding about what makes something gourmet. So for clarity. Gourmet food is any food of high quality and/or rarity, crafted to deliver exquisite taste and presented in a pleasing fashion. Ingredients that are rare or hard to cultivate on one continent, thus considered gourmet, can be common on another. Not only is Chef Maynard cooking Filipino food which is a rarity in the states in most places. He is also using culinary techniques from French and Italian training in order to infuse his Filipino food with a different flare. Gourmet does not require a price point.
@@onlywheretoeatit is an insult to filipino gourmet chefs, to call this food gourmet. We’ll just have to agree to disagree. This is comfort food. And thats fine. Just call it what it is.
Hello hello Kuya Lord! Have been to your restaurant, great place, very highly recommended 😋
A great place to eat in LA without a doubt!
I've been following this page for months now and I'm so proud that you've featured Filipino foods in this channel and I'm just so happy seeing this.
It’s been an honor learning about this culture. Great food and great people. Cheers!
I'm a Hawaii local, Filipino blood. Definitely hitting this place up whenever I get to LA.

So modern and underrated i'm from Philippines.. I'm so proud being a filipino..
proud to be a filipino lang naman kaya nating sabihin 😂
Just wondering and I'm really serious about this question: will you pay $18 for a jar of atsara? Everything freshly made, organic, etc.

That laing is bomb. Who would have thought laing + bonito flakes will really blend as i think. Filipino-japanese flavors.
A surprise dish for sure. Unbelievably flavorful!
Hindi mo kami maloloko chef anglo!!
Wow the food looks AMAZING!
Been here only once. The Hiramasa Collar (yellowtail fish) was so good. Parking is a pain though. They need another location.
This place is in my bookmarks. I'm a sucker for porchetta and lechon. Dope video, ya'll.
Thank you for tuning in! Check back in with us once you get a chance to go! Its worth it

Yes exactly. This is just regular basic filipino food, not elevated at all. Please don't put gourmet in the title, if it is clearly comfort food.
Chef Lord kinda look like Chef JP Anglo.
starts 7:17 is about the food
Love it, Thank you. #mattdv
you know they done it right, food with redhorse beer? Can't beat that

do you expect to see more of cooking? watch a cooking show...
Red Horse is not the best beverage to go with most Philippine cuisines.
It was a personal request by me not the Chef 😅
I was going to say don't spoil the delicious meal by washing it down with that terrible beer
Mag Tagalog ka na lang! Hirap na hirap mag Ingles!
A developing country would be more acceptable. The term 3rd world country is very outdated.
Or Emerging Markets in Wall Street lingo.
