I remember hearing that when Elvis got tired of them being in awe of him, he said "well, are we just going to stand around lookin' at each other all night, or we gonna play somethin'"? Classic Elvis.

After the meeting, Jerry Schilling went to go visit The Beatles the next day. John, Paul, and George were sitting on the patio with towels in the hair, talking with Jerry *(Ringo was inside the house talking to Maureen on the phone)* . Before Jerry left, John told him to tell Elvis that when he was in school, John was almost kicked out of school for having sideburns that looked like Elvis's. If it wasn't for him, John, Paul, George, and Ringo wouldn't be around.
I read a comment once that someone put that Jerry once wrote in his book that fans of The Beatles were even more crazy than the Elvis fans.
P.S. Who would know that on the same month and day but two years later on August 27th, Brian Epstein passed away.
P.S.S. In August 1965, The Beatles performed in Shea Stadium on the 15th then 12 days later, they got to meet Elvis Presley at his Perugia Way home. Also in February 1965, Ringo Starr got married to Maureen Cox, in September Ringo and Maureen had their first child Zak, and in October 26 The Beatles received their MBEs from Queen Elizabeth II.

Yeah it would have been. But they left the drums somewhere else so that was out of the question. That was the reason why Ringo went to go play pool with Jerry and other members of the Memphis Mafia. George went outside to smoke a joint with Larry, Elvis's hairdresser and they talked about Spiritualism. John and Paul were the only ones that jammed out with Elvis. Brian was in the other room with Tom Parker, watching the whole meeting then they played some kind of gambling game on the coffee table/roulette wheel.
If Tom Parker didn't said 'no' to picture taking and inviting the press to Elvis's house when The Beatles and Brian Epstein came over and record the meeting, that night in 1965 would have been the most memorable and historical moment in music history for both The Beatles and Elvis Presley.

This is great...so interesting to hear Priscilla's reminiscences about the Beatles meeting Elvis. They really did idolise The King, particularly so in John's case. It's kind of cute to think they were awestruck being in his presence, which shows they were just like any other true Elvis fan, even though they themselves had become a massive pop / rock phenomenon.

WTF.........Elvis was the first frontman no doubt and had all the charisma and the voice to keep an audience captivated; however, Mick Jagger had better moves and more energy for years (from the 60's to the 90's). It shouldn't even be necessary to defend Michael Jackson in this forum as being a greater performer. Most critics would agree that vocally, he was superior and his moves weren't only precise, but revolutionary. Michael Jackson's albums outsold Elvis worldwide, and in my opinion he's still the unrivaled King of Pop. In the world of Heavy Metal very few have had the vocal range of Bruce Dickinson. Perhaps, Rob Halford from Judas Priest is better. The amazing thing is that Bruce Dickinson kept his vocal range and extremely high energy stage performance (costume changes, running and jumping) well into the 2000's.

Supposedly, according to one account, it was said John (Lennon) had told Elvis toward the end of the meeting, something to the effect that "he belonged on stage & not in the movies". It's fairly understandable; Elvis was far more of a singer than an actor; you might've seen him turning to acting later on in his career (had he not passed on when he did), but up to then, assuming John Lennon did tell him that, he was right: Elvis DID belong on stage, not in the movies.

I'm sure many of us have seen the Beatles' perspective on this from Anthology. They were sad that he wasn't really working on music during those movie years, plus he'd become surrounded by hangers on. Let's face it, the Mafia have said similar things in later years. John in particular wanted the pre-army Elvis, who'd changed the rock landscape just as they would a decade later.

She tells the story so differently than the way each of the Beatles did. Based on all their stories, I think the lads were just stoned. Though when John met his sex idol Brigitte Bardot he also behaved ultra shy. I think he was high at that time too.

Easy to sugar coat it now, but Elvis HATED the Beatles. They intimidated the hell out of him because they were younger and were changing the game right before his eyes. I love them both, but Elvis had a LOT of insecurities and paranoia, much of it brought on by Col. Tom and much of it due to the fact that he was ELVIS FREAKING PRESLEY and no one, including the Beatles, knew what it was like to walk in those shoes.
