There are so many bad and over complicated tutorials out there on hair.
This is not one of them.
The best I've seen yet.
Thank you so much for this tutorial💖👏
bro!!!!! thank you!!!!!!
Good tutorial. This hair's a bit polygon-heavy, so be sure to reduce the resolution of the main hair shape (Resolution U, under the Active Spline area) so it doesn't balloon your polygon count. If you're rigging, then maybe also consider a "flat" copy of the hair strands so you can paint skin weights much easier, then transfer them to the 3D strands :)
dude what... why didn't read this sooner. Thank you so so much for these tips!!! 😍
Sorry I'm new on this, can you make a video about this? Or can you elaborate what you mean with "flat" copy? Again, sorry I'm newbie, but I want to learn.
yea, i'm watching on 25% speed.
I didn't realize stylized hair could look this realistic and probably even more so. It seems like the key is in the shader. Making some adjustments to roughness (reflextivity) and subsurf make the strands appear more individualized and less anime-ish. maybe experimenting with bumps and normals for texture in the shader helps the transformation, too. idk. this will be fun to play with.
I like the techniques you showed for adding the twirls in the front and adding the smaller strands on top of the main strands leading back toward the pony tail.
I imagine you could animate the ponytail and the twirled strands fairly easily since, for example, the twirled strand is only one object. This may apply for jumping or even in a walk cycle. Seeing the ponytail swing from side to side during a walk cycle would add realism. This method may be easier to control than other types of hair relying on physics.
Nice video. Thanks
thank u so much :33
Thanks you 😢❤
Looks amazing
GREAT TUTORIAL! TY!
Thanks for this!
Whoaaaaa thats so cool
I subscribe you now brother! Thank you so much!
Id love to see a video that takes this process into animation production, how to animate and rig this type of set up.
Not my dumb ass trying to do it one strand at a time. This is so much easier, thank you.
At the beginning he says "Shift+A > Curves > Path" for the Nurbs Path, then "Shift+A > Curves > Circle" for the Bezier Circle.

thank you so much for this detailed tutorial 💖
Can you do a video about the Arcane stylized hair? They seem to be using the particle hair…but stylized like what you have here.
Check out Yan sculpts for arcane style
These types of hair are good for just still renders but can you tell us how to make hair for animation models? Maybe those hair which move automatically according to the character animation.
You just need to rig this hair to make it be able to do that. Search how to rig with Blender
@@ProgNoizesB i mean, just retopologize the hair, bake the high poly on the lowpoly for detail, rig, n done
@ジャス / jasu Can you give me a link to that video?
@@mako8186do you know any good tutorials for doing that, I’m just starting and trying to figure out how everything works.
@@ProgNoizesB I think they're referring to "flowing" hair, not static. I've played games and made mods with equal to or more poly than this that play just fine. I believe what they were saying is that it looks too "cereal box cartoon", which is true. If we're being realistic, too many modern creations are using static assets for every aspect including character gen hairs (if they're not building around a story which covers the head, avoiding hair altogether), and that should've been abandoned around the time PS4 and XboxOne became a thing. You'd expect that sort of thing on N64, Wii, and Switch game covers, Anime trading cards, etc. but, not the likes of Unreal Engine productions which many people are still doing, because of its simplicity.
The answer to this question is probably opting to separate the hair into 2 objects (ie: loose bangs and pony tail joined and separate from contained hair strands); setting the moving parts of the hair as a cloth, add necessary bones, give it enough weight that it bounces freely but not excessively, and make sure the body and any accessories have collision defined to prevent it from flowing through them. Finally, rigging it to the skeleton of choice which varies in dev tool being used. In any case, texturing has the ability to make very fake look almost believable if you put the work in and don't mind slightly larger than normal resolutions. Modern Unreal can handle 4k really well, so there's that.
Thank You for this tutorial. I can now use the HairNet addon to turn the mesh hair I created into Particle Hair! My character has braided pigtails and trying to create braided pigtails with the Blender Particle Hair System was a nightmare for me! SMH
Thank you so much can you also do afro and dreadlocks tut thank you again.
I want this but done with particle system for a realistic look pls
Holy crap I was duplicating the strands in edit mode and it was absolute hell
I keep seeing these tutorials here and there, they are great for HD art but I wish someone out there found out an easy way to turn some of those hairstyles into game-ready low polygon count hair meshes, so far the only effective way I find is by projecting into a different mesh painfully modelled by hand (retopo is janky with all these curves and strands.)
Have you tried using Curve resolution?
@@BeviCall A bit, but still not an ideal solution, specially for the way material is projected into a curve mesh (sideways.)
wouldn't decimate be perfect for that? decimate plus some quick editing should do the trick...
@@TheCatMurgatroyd Decimate doesn't always do the trick sadly.
@@TioMegamanX i think it looks alright but ofc it depends on what you're going for... Maybe there's a way to create a height map while it's on a high poly count?
thank you for video i like this perfect way to make hair
just can i render this way?
How to make the inner side of the hair strand with different color? There is a style in cartoon and anime when the inner side of hair is very bright, almost glowing with vibrant different color and it makes a very nice effect on the style of a character.

Hey man, i tried yansculpt method (RUclips) similar to those but it always overlaps over another when i try to tilt rotate to fit on the head (ofc ourse after volume mesh on the head) and a huge pain in the you know what manually rotating everything points to match the surface, is there a way to easily do this?
Very usefull, but could you please explain how I can now connect this hair into one object without bugs for 3d printing?
this looks awesome, could you please make a video about how to make Leonardo Dicaprio's titanic hairstyle please?
Can someone help me it does not let me select the sircle to bevel..
Same :( oh I guess I was using a circle object but should have been using a curve circle.
Hi! I'm making stylized hairs for the first time and I wanted to ask why exactly do we have to make a head base? And do we have to join the head base and hairs to the body with "ctrl+j" after we are done styling it so they can move along with the head once we rig the character for posing?
Commenting In case someone answers
Can you explain a little about shading the hair?
Does anyone know how to pick shape of the circle and apply onto the curve in maya like he did in blender??? need help with it
Thanks for the tutorial. Why does the curve twist when manipulating a control point? I have the hair exactly how I want it. Move one control point and the entire curve twists.😵
thanks! how do you transform that curves into geometry? i wanna send the geo to zbrush
Noice
so after you create the hair, do you just keep it as curves? I tried to convert all the curves into mesh and joined them but the final mesh is extremely dense. is there a way to make it a mesh and make it a low poly mesh for export to other engines?
This and I’d also like to know how to optimize it if it’s going to go into a game engine or vrchat
Do I just convert the curves to mesh for export?
Hello! I'm getting up to 3:20 and having trouble resizing the hair with Alt+S. Whenever I attempt to change the size it curves instead. It does appear that the line isn't inside the shape, but unsure how to fix that
agh I having the exact same issue! In my case, my path is separated from the object and alt-s makes the hair curve towards the path, instead of just pinching it in place. Did you happen to figure out the issue? I suppose if I can put the path ontop of the object like it should be, my issue will be fixed, but I dont know how to do that.
Yes, I'm not sure what he did, but it's not working like he's showing (and this is a very recent video).
Edit: Gotta mash that Tab key until the bar on the left side with the icons elongates. This program is not beginner friendly in the slightest and doesn't have anything intuitive about it lol. Gotta look for small/modest signs of stuff because the developers definitely didn't go out of their way to make the thing actually communicate with the user...
@@kiyokumabear yeah it's not at all beginner friendly :') I ended up fixing my issue by toggling an add-on that was mentioned in another tutorial, as I was scrubbing through multiple to see if I missed something.
@@Ruebunni Tell me what exactly you did? I don't know how to fix this problem
@sofiia7054 It's been so long, but I believe this is how I fixed my problem:
Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Add Ons
Uncheck "Enabled Add-ons Only" and earch for "Add Curve: Extra Objects"
Make sure the box is checked to enable it. I really hope this helps! I know how frustrating things can be with Blender!
I am struggling so bad in controlling the directions of the hair. it keeps going inside the face object, even though i have the face snap clicked. I dont know how you control it without pressing the xyz axis. I get it that i can do mid mouse button, but i cant still make it move well to where i want to position the hair 😢
so wait. Do I not convert to mesh? Do i not ctrl j to join them so the hai is one object? I get if i convertto mesh id have to unwrap it. So maybe dont. but do not not combine them so they are one item? What if i wanted to make multiple style to change between in my game engine?
How do you bake the nodes into an image texture?
convert curve to mesh, unwrap and bake
👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏👍👍
Can this type of hair be animated? Like wind blowing through it and movement let’s say like a video game character? Or 3d movie character that needs realistic hair movement when the character moves?, im new to blender i don’t know what the right words to describe what I’m trying ton explain.
why is it wheneve I right click, it cancels out my left click and not show the option to subdivide?
3:20 i cant scale my strand, only when all dots are selected. someone pls help me
literally just clapped after I watched this video.
Texture painting for disney characters like skin next please
That smooth pinkish color on cheeks and nose
Please do it
I have no idea how you did it but i actually been been working on the exact thing you just said for a couple of days, the video will be out in few days :D
@@PixelicaCG Will be eagerly waiting for it 😍😍
How can I fix this as a low poly model?
i wish there was a lock when tilting and rotating
what was that to seperate?
Yeah but how do you join all of the hairs together without messing it all up bc when I try to do it all the hair strands get spread out
How I do it
-I highlight all of the hair strands
-I right click and press join
And right after that, it messes up the hair
which part am i doing wrong here ? mine doesnt scale
Can this be done for LEGO hair styles?
there are so many of these videos claiming styalized hair using the curve tools as low poly, however inorder to clean up the workspace you need to convert each individual curve to a mesh and join into a single object but when you do that blender crashes, how can this be considered easy low poly soloution if as soon as you convert it to a single mesh bang blender says no
You can change the resolution of the curves and make them low poly before converting to mesh. Also, you can make the circle (shape of the strands) less detailed and you can make low poly hair...
And Alternatively, you can make the curves flat to use them as hair cards, and only make the texture have the details
@@Mamika_AFKdo you know of any tutorials for that? Sorry I’m new to this

hair are not attached with rig or body making problem while animating
how to convert this into hair cards?
هل يمكن ان تعطيني هذا الشعر عن طريق رابط التحميل ؟
Dear i need this hair, to use it . Can you give me this template to use in my design
Chat can i use this for vrchat
Nothing happens when I press alt s. Help me please!

This started looking good until I saw the tri count with just a few strands - yikes.
yep.

Can you use this hair for games?
no
the real question is how you managed to make your own hair stylised
unfortunately I have not been able to make it work, every time I make a strand and try to adjust it, it rotates and I cannot adjust it correctly
his incomplete tutorial is annoying, he dint tell alot of people the most basic and simple things, only the obvious ones
@@MultiKwolf how can u go more basic than this tho? you have scale, twirl, move, everytime it rotates incorrectly u have to select that point and twirl it to get it into the right position there's no magic tool or something to fix it.
why it doesn't work when i press ALT+s ??
u sure you're in edit mode and selecting a vertex?
@@PixelicaCG Can't find Alt S in Industry Mode :(
OK, I Created a Shortcut
If Anyone want to know
Just fill transform.transform> Mode:Curve Shrink/Fatten
@@PixelicaCG I'm sure I'm in edit mode. still nothing happens.
yep really nice , but you have like 500k vertices on only that right ? my pc would die :_(
Forgot to mention you can change the resolution of the curves to make the geometry lighter, less resolution = less verticles.
@@PixelicaCG how?
is this animatable?
The only problem I have is that the hair doesn't follow rig when I move the head
Because you have to convert the curves into mesh, and then rig the hair to the head bone
It won't works if you don't use 2 objects "curvs", like if you're using a circle in mesh and a nurbpaths in mesh, you have to make 2 curvs to do the shape.
