    Literally the only problem preventing the Tacoma from being the undeniable king of badass midsize or trucks in general is power. It already has the best design, reliability, available mods, etc. The Tacoma is already the best midsize truck but a supercharger makes it untouchable

      A taller roof would be nice. My 6'1" frame makes my head hit the roof on bumps. My 2000 Tacoma never did that hence why I upgraded to a Tundra.

      I would love to install the supercharger, but not only would the truck be untouchable, with the cost of the supercharger and now rising gas prices, it makes it unaffordable.

    Any improvement in low end torque? Im really tired of having to go into 4 low on my 14% grade gravel drive if I ever have to start from a stop half way up. These trucks have literally no ass under 2500rpm with the 6 speed ( and yes ive been driving manuals over 20 years😁). The way I look at it I can re-gear and add a heavy weight flywheel to solve this but at that point ive spent half as much and made no more power.

    I installed one on my 2007 Tacoma Prerunner 4x4, it works great I did update the cold air intake and the exhaust. I would recommend installing the a oil catch can because the vacuum is much stronger. Any how my truck has 350k miles and she goes from 0-60 in about 7.5sec. As for mpg I get about 22mpg combine, riding on 285/75R16. What I like about the 2nd gen is 4.0L V6 is a powerful engine that doesn’t gear hunt like the the newer models.

The 2nd has a faster time than the 3rd gen because of the 4.0 liter, but I would think it would be a bit slower. I also have a manual Taco, so my question to you is, what gains if any do you feel with the drivability of the truck, say in highway 6th gear cruising etc.. just tipping into the throttle, do you feel torque improvements with low throttle inputs at lower revs over stock? just mashing the pedal to the floor all the time isn't realistic driving conditions.

    • @OpelPower
      @OpelPower  3 года назад +2

      Low throttle inputs do not engage boost (on any setup). when throttle plates are barely opened you have high vacuum not boost. Superchargers use vacuum bypass valves to bypass the superchargers at part throttle to allow normal unboosted engine operation. Otherwise you’d waste a ton of fuel.
      I’m not sure I understand your question. No mods make a difference at just tapping into the throttle because your brain is deciding how much power you want not the car.
      Now if you are asking about putting in like 3/4 throttle to go over a hill in 6th gear then yes there are vast improvements. Probably 60% throttle is where the vacuum bypass opens and you start transitioning from 10-20in HG of vacuum to 0-7psi of boost.
      Anytime your stock truck is at 0 or near 0 vacuum you are making more power with a supercharger or turbo
      Anytime your stock truck is above 0inHG of vacuum you are making the same power as stock with a super charger or turbo.

    • @shredfest30
      @shredfest30 3 года назад

      Appreciate your comment, ya I had a roots blower on my F150 lightning back in the day, and that setup would tip in to boost early because the bypass vacuum pot was fast.. you say you need 60% throttle input to drop the vacuum and transition to boost?. That seems quite high to me..? I also had many 3.5l ecoboost F150’s and they have instant torque being turbos, and I was hoping this blower setup would push to boost much earlier than you described, since this is the only point where these trucks need it most

      You can tow 6800lbs easily with a stock Tacoma with a weight distribution hitch. I tow 4000lbs weekly and I’ve towed 3000miles with 6500lbs. The supercharger made it to where I never have to shift out of sixth on the highway and it’s a bit more fuel efficient while towing. 11.8mpg average of 2000 miles stock, and 13.2mpg average over 2000 miles SC. 75mph average and 4000lbs.

  • @neoxaero
    @neoxaero 3 года назад +5

    So, what effect did it have on your fuel milage? Does the thing downshift at the slightest hint of a hill?

    • @09FoxRider
      @09FoxRider 2 года назад +2

      @neoxaero It will depend on the engine you select, the 3rd gens use a 3.5L V6 6speed as compared to the 2nd gens 4.0L V6 5 speed. So not to get technical one has higher torque and the other has power to displace with lower rpm. Speaking from experience the supercharger when installed correctly, will improve your mpg. Think of fan generating a tornado of air using the oxygen as fuel meaning less fuel uses in the engine. However back to the engine type
      Normally 4x4 have higher rpm which in turn hurts mpg. The 3rd gen Tacoma run into problems because of the 5 and 6 gear those are basically 2 overdrive. The computer will try to make the best decision on saving fuel, with the super charge installed it will run into a problem called gear hunting we’re it goes back and forth on 5th and 6th gear. As you add more weight this problem will occur more often and you will notice it. Assuming you have 32 or bigger tires I would recommend regrading for better performance. If done correctly you should gain about 2-3mpg. Hope that helps.

    • @OpelPower
      @OpelPower  2 года назад +4

      @Michael Gonzales
      No disrespect intended, but I think you are a little confused about how a supercharger works. You do not use the oxygen as fuel. The supercharger does increase the oxygen supplied to the engine but in return the engine must supply more fuel to avoid going lean.
      Now a supercharger can increase the volumetric efficiency of an engine, but this is rarely the case. Generally an engine will have to be tuned much more rich (more fuel per unit air) to ensure longevity.
      Superchargers also have a parasitic HP draw from the belt and rotors which further decreases mpg.
      Typically after market superchargers decrease fuel efficiency because of this.
      I get around the same MPG as before the supercharger on my Tacoma. Slightly less.

    • @09FoxRider
      @09FoxRider 2 года назад

      @@OpelPower it has to do with fuel to air compressor ratio. I believe the 3 gen are 10:1. Just adding a supercharger alone won’t improve much of anything. You have to modified the trucks exhaust and intake system to support the charge system.

      It would definitely need a tune. It is imperative to keep the AFR really rich in this truck. Even that little of a change might be enough to cause some damage. Nah. The the stock gears are already 4.30:1 on the manuals and our 6th is significantly higher too. A manual in 6th gear at 70mph will have the same rpm as an auto with 5.29s in 6th at the same speed.

      You will need quite a few tools though and you probably don’t have them if you are a beginner.
      Torx internal and external sockets, 3/8,1/2, and 1/4 drive ratchets. An air impact gun, serpentine belt tool, different socket extensions, ratcheting and normal wrenches, breaker bar, and a good quality torque wrench.
