Yeah, but this is a kit for a stock engine thats meant to be as reliable as before. Of course you could put a smaller pully on and tune aggressively for E85 and increase injector size, etc and make 450 HP on the 3.5 V6 but this aint that. Its a simple kit.
Some of you guys are looking at this setup all wrong. The supercharger with stock intake, exhaust, fuel injectors, and other stock internals is very limited with psi and power output. This is a Big problem on Taco's. Most Big brake kits require a Master cylinder upgrade. And if you upgrade master cylinder, you lose the ABS. I have a stock taco with 285 tires/wheels and wanted to upgrade brakes for safety reasons, and 2 brake shops refuse to do it because without ABS it creates a safety risk.

@@Mechaniclyfe I've 'upgraded' my rotors to Stoptech Cryo Rotors and TRD brake pads (link below). Still it's a very minor upgrade in stopping performance. The six piston kit might be my next upgrade. I have SCS ray10 wheels and the 285/ 17" are heavy. Braking is still very poor. Here is a good thread: www.tacomaworld.com/threads/brake-upgrade-stoptech-rotors-trd-performance-pads.523829/
What is going on with all the gauge cluster lights lit up as you are leaving for the road trip? Are there some issues going on there, or just need somethings reset?
Magnuson made the TRD supercharger kit made a few years ago. What they didn’t tell you is that it needs to be installed by a qualified installer or you void the warranty. Lots of money but a very high quality kit
@EV As a former Taco owner, I'm SURE you're correct. However, the question is, is the cost worth the very menial upgrade in performance? I think I speak for most in saying hell no. Toyota needs to produce a Taco engine that is near 300 HP with sufficient torque. GM can; why can't Toyota? They just need to cut to the chase and put the 4.6 as an option to the Taco.
@EV I've driven it. I don't know that I'd call it a dog. In a Tundra it doesn't match the 5.7, of course (not even close, I guess), and you really wouldn't want to get it in the Tundra because the gas mileage differential isn't great enough to justify the loss of power. However, with the Tacoma weighing significantly less than the Tundra, the 4.6 could be the engine that makes this thing a decent highway vehicle and something that makes pulling something at higher speeds suck less. As you said, neither the SC or the 4.6 is going to turn the Tacoma into a rocket, but that isn't really the point. As you know, the V8 makes all the difference in the world over a V6 when passing from 60-80 on the highway. THAT was THE reason I got rid of my Taco -- though I think I may be in the market for another one as highway driving will not be as big an issue for me anymore (and i may just get an older Lexus sedan as a third car).
MATEOOOOOOO Finally what we have been waiting for, I can only imagine what it feels like, I had a supercharger in my 2001 Taco and man it was awesome, I just loved the rush from the feel of the charger kicking in. What was the final tally for the install..? I gotta one... Thanks for a supercharged video.
Still want to turbo charge mine. Curious how the longevity is after these sort of mods from what we can normally expect out of the 3rd Gen? Anyone have some stats?
Does this supercharger come with a customizable ECU tune? The Ovtune Twin Turbo comes with it and I believe it's cheaper. Matt does some awesome things.
I have the same thought, wait for Harrop. Magnuson went way too cautious on the power. This truck needs a new fuel pump and injection to really shine. I bet what Magnuson did pushes the stock fuel pump close to max.
@@kclamer exactly! Looks like Harrop might be pushing more power. Now that you mention fuel pump, I spoke with my Toyota dealer after getting some service & apparently there is or will be a recall on some of the 2016+ Tacoma fuel pumps.

We’ve heard about the new tundra, its also happening in the land cruiser? But it would be interesting to see a taco swapped with the v6 twin turbo compared to a v8 swap and a v6 supercharged
The tires are probably robbing hrsp after tightening those straps and pulling them into the rollers more than the weight of the vehicle normally wood. That would increase your rolling friction substantially and throw of your numbers if not taken into account..
Yeah, buddy... Had a Supercharger in my 2001 Tacoma 4x4. When you pass that higher RPM threshold and the SC kicks in. If you keep your foot in it, it feels like the power and torque is limitless. And the faster you go, the better the engine seems to like it there. You're gonna need a FUEL sponsor next... lol.
Makes me wonder if I keep my weight down and don’t have as big tires how much power my 23’ TRD OR would feel. I probably won’t go over 33 inch tires and doubt I’ll be over over 5300 pounds ever. I’m not looking for that same overland build that’s a full build. Any thoughts? Is it worth doing this to my new taco? I only have 1k miles on it and now that I have a company vehicle it really won’t gain a lot of miles. My feedback I would love
The perfect combo is gears and supercharger to get the truck right. Gears improved the truck and the supercharger just made it even better. MPG did not get affected with the supercharger. It did made us want to step on it a lot more so mpg depended on how much we would step on it 😂 but if you drive it like you normally do then mpg doesn’t change 🤷♂️
In the end, it’s still a Camry engine. People get hung up on hp, but low end torque - especially for a truck - is where it’s at. I owned a 2018 manual and a 2019 auto Tacoma - I ditched them both bc the power/torque was pitiful. Down right awful. I now have a factory supercharged Tundra. It’s glorious. With how much that Tacoma weighs, you should look at a full size pickup.
Does a cold air intake or a snorkel have any impact on supercharger performance? Is there any benefit (aside from increase height of snorkel) to changing out the stock intake when using a supercharger like this?
Australian option- I have a 2017 Toyota Hilux with the 4.0lt V6 with a Rotrex supercharger kit on it and get 310hp at the wheels, also has twin 2 2/4inch pipes to get that. I keep procrastinating about doing a video.
I have the kit on preorder and I don’t have a winch yet, but it is something that I’m thinking about getting down the line. Since you had to make some adjustments to the kit to fit with a winch, would the opposite also be possible? By that I mean relocating the winch controller to higher up on the passenger side of the grille given that the inter cooler pump is mounted in the location that Magnuson intended.

Us Americans say how’s it going to each other without answering the question of how it’s going 😂😂😂 I do it all the time 😂
Magnuson made the TRD supercharger kit made a few years ago. What they didn’t tell you is that it needs to be installed by a qualified installer or you void the warranty. Lots of money but a very high quality kit
You make people envy you.. Loads of love from India..
🙌
I have a Magnuson 3rd generation with 5.30s bout to swap pulleys
That was so disappointing
@EV As a former Taco owner, I'm SURE you're correct. However, the question is, is the cost worth the very menial upgrade in performance? I think I speak for most in saying hell no. Toyota needs to produce a Taco engine that is near 300 HP with sufficient torque. GM can; why can't Toyota? They just need to cut to the chase and put the 4.6 as an option to the Taco.
Toyota needs to offer the 3.0 D4D engine here in the US.
I seen you in Ventura Ca today I'm thinking you went to the Magnuson here on on Knoll drive.
That is correct!
@@tacomabeast you should do a meet up in the area.
Hey dude you look a lot like Amir Khan a Bollywood actor...
haha! I kinda see it, i'll take that as a compliment 😂
How has your truck been holding up since your put on the supercharger ? Is the reliability still there?
We’re impressed with how reliable the truck stands currently 🤙
MATEOOOOOOO Finally what we have been waiting for, I can only imagine what it feels like, I had a supercharger in my 2001 Taco and man it was awesome, I just loved the rush from the feel of the charger kicking in. What was the final tally for the install..? I gotta one... Thanks for a supercharged video.
Still want to turbo charge mine. Curious how the longevity is after these sort of mods from what we can normally expect out of the 3rd Gen?
Anyone have some stats?
with a 60hp gain itll last just as long as stock most likely. there isnt that much stress
Does this supercharger come with a customizable ECU tune? The Ovtune Twin Turbo comes with it and I believe it's cheaper. Matt does some awesome things.
check out YotaWerx Tuning for their Magnuson SC "Stryker" tune for the 3GTacoma
Tundra. Glorious 5.7L V8. 381HP. 401LB-FT TQ. 87 Octane. We welcome you with open arms.
7 mpg
Presley Costa no
Wow awesome super charger I'm so excited to buy for my truck too
Will most definitely be purchasing a Maggy supercharger for my Taco!
SICK!!! Enjoy Mateo
Awesome video guys! Now I gotta look into the super charger for my self 😬🤙🏼
JT looks kinda like Christian Bale 😂
He's preparing for his next film where he is a mechanic from Texas
How easy/difficult is the labor on the install with the instructions that they provide?
the instructions are very detailed but it can be a little bit labor intensive.
I'd be interested in seeing a re-gear vs SC. Price comparisons, performance, a race, maintainence costs, etc.
A manual transmission with the supercharger will be golden.
Il have mine soon
By adding a new:
-Cold Air intake
-Overland Torque tune
-performance exhaust
-Ripp Coil pack
You can easily add 30-40 HP
(Best bang for the Buck!)
Can't wait to see what Harrop has in-store for us next. Their supercharger sounds super interesting too 👌
I have the same thought, wait for Harrop.
URDusa is saying they have a 100 RWHP range gain on their stage 1 kit
@@ROFLgator1 yeap, mine is on the list for the fuel pump recall.
At first I was like ✨I love the Taco✨ as a joke… but bro… I don’t think it’s a joke anymore 🥴🥴🙌🏽🙌🏽
😂
It's a real shame that Toyota discontinued the TRD supercharger. It was nice (albeit expensive) to get a factory warrantied supercharger.
Thanks for sharing this install!
AT THE END OF THE VIDEO!
BRO TAKE IT EASY! IT WEIGHTS ALMOST 3 and 1/2 tons
Must have the best breaking system there is on this rig!
I'm curious to know how much is the average consumption now and before to compare.
Great job on the video👍🏻
$6,000 to bring you back to stock HP? This did anything but hype the Magnuson.
The stock HP you're thinking of is crank HP. Stock they'll make less than 230 at the wheels
Noah Rodman were you born dumb or was that comment just for attention
tempe hes right
@@Fish4Joe You obviously dont know about crank HP vs wheel HP. Your transmission usually takes 20-30% of your engines HP just to run.
@@SuperReviews4you you're commenting on a thread that's months old. It's obvious you know nothing about how vehicles work and using your brain only utilizes 20-30% of your of the 3 brain cells you have
Anyone talking about the twin turbo 3.5 tundra thats happening? I was thinking the transfercase might be stronger/better designed to deal with the issues that i have been reading about.
That would increase your rolling friction substantially and throw of your numbers if not taken into account..
feel free to reach out if you're interested in giving our YotaWerx Tuning "Stryker" tune for the Magnuson Supercharger a shot
👀
@@tacomabeast there'd be a significant difference noticed
Thats a sweet Taco man.
Yeah, buddy... Had a Supercharger in my 2001 Tacoma 4x4. When you pass that higher RPM threshold and the SC kicks in. If you keep your foot in it, it feels like the power and torque is limitless. And the faster you go, the better the engine seems to like it there. You're gonna need a FUEL sponsor next... lol.
Surprised they didn't go over the mapping of the tune.
Honestly would be really cool to see this on a lighter build! It’s definitely one of those mods you save for last though IMO
I think I saw Hagrid at around 7:30 !!
Talk about knowin what your doin! You guys are freakin awesome!
What was the comparison when only re-gear vs after the supercharger was install? Also, what's your mpg before and after the supercharger was install?
The perfect combo is gears and supercharger to get the truck right. Gears improved the truck and the supercharger just made it even better. MPG did not get affected with the supercharger. It did made us want to step on it a lot more so mpg depended on how much we would step on it 😂 but if you drive it like you normally do then mpg doesn’t change 🤷♂️
Omg...Dustin looks like a young Wizard from Hoovie’s Garage.
What's better than a Honda with a laptop? Yes a Tacoma with a laptop...🤣
😂
Thanks for sharing. Interesting vid. LOTS of parts for the gain. Interested in seeing how reliable it is.
With how much that Tacoma weighs, you should look at a full size pickup.
give the guys proper introductions man
What kind of boost numbers is this running, what impact does it have on injector duty cycle?
i have tundra 2019 supercharged its 600 hp its fast
Any clips or pics?
Double the horsepower and then some. Gotta be a riot to drive. I want one. Tacoma is just a toy in comparison.
Does a cold air intake or a snorkel have any impact on supercharger performance? Is there any benefit (aside from increase height of snorkel) to changing out the stock intake when using a supercharger like this?
All the bells and whistles and they use Napa oil.
How is your engine bay so clean? Are you using a specific cleaner that works really well?
ruclips.net/video/t4gX69DLsfc/видео.html
Australian option- I have a 2017 Toyota Hilux with the 4.0lt V6 with a Rotrex supercharger kit on it and get 310hp at the wheels, also has twin 2 2/4inch pipes to get that. I keep procrastinating about doing a video.
Hello I’m looking to put in new headlights in my 2016 Tacoma. Which ones are on the truck in this video?
Stock 2020 non-pro edition OEM LED
Alpharex Nova-series
6700lbs?! How far over the GVWR is that? Isn’t that dangerous?
Lol
Will the transmission or the gearing need to be upgraded or changed respectively for longevity?
It helps to have it re-geared if you went up in tire size. If you dont, you might as well not get a supercharger.
@@tacomabeast ok yeah I agree. So what gears do you recommend with this setup?
Depends a lot on the kind of tires you got, for us we run a 5.29 since we got 35” tires
Sweet upgrade and bad ass video! Is there a list of shops that can install this supercharger upgrade?
That truck is so sick
Love from India love your videos
Never seen a decent pickup truck in India. I never understood this. It retards your country's progress.
So rad dude 🤘
Mateo!!! How much was the supercharger plus install?
Less than it would be for you or me, lol
Kits $6,500 and 2 days off shop time is between 80 and 200 an hour so 120*16 is $1920. So basically answer tax and crap that's 10 grand
Follow up on SC sometime in the future
Thanks for posting the video! What re-gearing did you do? Did you do it before getting the SC?
I have the kit on preorder and I don’t have a winch yet, but it is something that I’m thinking about getting down the line. Since you had to make some adjustments to the kit to fit with a winch, would the opposite also be possible? By that I mean relocating the winch controller to higher up on the passenger side of the grille given that the inter cooler pump is mounted in the location that Magnuson intended.
Watch out my friend supercharged hi Tacoma, his engine blew up at 125,000 miles, he rebuilt but without supercharger
