I was gonna say the Kaukau was the best of the bunch; until you busted out Tahu and just wow. He SCREAMS Tahu now. All the ques are there. Damn near brought a tear to my eye. All such subtle changes but the results are amplified 10x. Subbed.
These masks are such HUGE upgrades to what were previously fairly shameful adaptations of our beloved characters. I was long done with Bionicle by the time these figures were released, but I remember seeing them advertised in Lego Magazines and groaning when I read what characters they were supposed to be. I really wish the Mistika and Phantoka were just new toa, maybe some of the other matoran who hadn’t yet had a chance or maybe a team of av-matoran who transformed and gained elements in addition to light, like how the ignika had lightning. But I also think Lewa Phantoka should have been Lesovik, cuz the design seems similar
I love that these masks actually look like the originals, but they don’t just alter the original models, they had a LOT of effort put into them, matching all the aesthetics, and got some Nuva inspiration in there too. I always wondered if the Mistika/Phantoka masks were in the shape of different masks, because the Mask of Charisma is the exact same as the adapted Hau.
I love how you made these guys fit in better with the air theme. When I first saw these back then the masks instantly stood out to me which was my major problem with the phantoka and Mistika line especially after we got the unique mahri line that basically hit it out the park. I thought the phantoka and Mistika enemies were good but the air theme for these toas did not reflect on the mask and armor well nor did they bring much inspiration from the old masks but you definitely did these 3 justice. They look way better and more faithful to classic bionicle style and names. Now, I bet they look way better when paired with Mahri team or even more classic teams like metru and etc. Mahri was my pride and joy and literally did bionicle the best out of all the lines to me. Mahri team took a “subspeeder” down to the depths of mahri nui and fought off the evils trying to obtain the masks power. I’ll forever love bionicle from early 2000s to 2007. I loved when Bionicle was raw and simple but they completely threw me off w the poorly done phantoka and Mistika and idk even know what the glatorians were suppose to be and everything after that which made bionicle feel more like” gods” rather than the “masked skeleton robots or beast bots” we’re use to. I miss when bionicle was simpler like the old mahri days and prior when they had creative and faithful ideas. Absolutely love that fact you revive these masks that were previously not well thought out builds. Tahu looks like he’s about to go back to back with mahri neparu and proportions look better w the additional add on armor and pieces. After his demise at bara magna, makuta's body was destroyed but his mind somehow lingered. Floating for an age he managed to escape through an unknowing host that peered in and although weaker, he sought a stronger body and mask. Quick to find out the toa and glatorians went in pursuit but they were too late, makuta placed this new mask on just in time and like that, everything changed. Suddenly everything went back in time. The toa now phantoka and mistoka but somehow different. Those that died didn't and somehow the makuta themselves were strangly stronger. Enter the age of Makuta Teradax and the Mask of Reality. A mask that peers into alternate realities and lets them leap between them. If only we could celebrate bionicle like this. Key moments with a twist, a peer into what could have been.
While I never mind the 2008 mask (Onua’s mask is actually my fav) but they definitely didn’t look like the originals, these masks went above and beyond to re-create the Nuva mask but also make them unique and I love that
I actually love all of these new redesigns for the mask, they resemble the Toa’s old mask variants much more. Also I like how Pohatu’s mask looks like a mashup of his original Mata mask design with the Nuva version. Anyway, my favorite one overall is the redesign of Gali’s mask. That is what I would call an adaptive mask in my opinion. Tahu and Kopaka’s redesign masks come in at a close second and third for me as well.

I'm going to 3D print these mask based on your customs along with I'm going to buy the official Bionicle Mistika sets and give out to the mask to make them as Makuta that who worked with Makuta Teridax and that they died before the Ignition Trilogy.
Your point on the lack of similarity to the OG masks, and your note of them likely being designed as an incarnation of the Inika/Mahri team, is very good and is very likely; though I would have to wonder if the adaptive Akaku was always designed around the general concept of an Akaku/Matatu… afterall, there is a good chance that by the time they were prototyping these masks, they knew Matoro was going to be dead, so perhaps they were going to sub in Kopaka, and then keep the rest as the Inika/Mahri team?
I think the Akaku and Pakari masks are the best looking ones here because in my controversial opinion i've never really liked the Toa Nuva designs all that much.
Now I wish I knew how to use a 3D printer so I could make these epic masks and other pieces myself. Ever thought about building Toa from other elements like Iron or Gravity?
Wow these masks and builds are much better. Although personally, I think the Toa Nuva shouldn't use the base Inika build at all and instead use their old chest piece (or maybe the 2015 gearbox) with new limbs
While they do look vastly superior to what we got they don't scream flight to me, gali's the best with the mask looking like a combat helmet and still being able to use the head fins, the other two look like really good mask remakes

The New Hau and Kaukau are Outright Perfect, you've SOLD me on trying to get these printed out. and when i do, I'll happily follow suit on your color overhauls too! The adaptive Pakari, I feel like I'm in a minority here. This new Pakari is brilliant. But I Like the Mistika Pakari. It's never bothered me like the Mistika Hau or Kaukau. Also, this may feel unsolicited, but may I offer some recommendations to your Onua build? I've been putting mine through a few rebuilds so I want to get some insight into what may work and what I'm just deluding myself thinking looks good. I use a 10197 (Technic Axle and Pin Connector Hub with 2 Perpendicular Axles) in black in place of the red 2L axle for the neck attachment to give Onua his hunchback look. I've added the Turaga hands (6553) to the blasters for grips like a chainsaw, and after seeing this video for the first time, replaced the lower 3L axle on the Ghost blaster with a 5L, put a (32039) on each side, and plugged one of his quake breakers in each side. I've done more, but these are the least intrusive mods. I love these Showcases you've done! Props to Galva again, And to you for making these masks look and builds look so good!

I like galva’s masks as stylized masks, but I don’t like them for mistika masks. Mostly because I want to have a mask that is the best of both worlds in the way that the mask still looks like the mask that one of the Toa Nuva would wear while still adhering to the mistika aesthetic.

Flame Twin blade(Flame Naginata) or Flame Gunblade(Large blade like Huki's warblade attatched on Nynrah blaster) for Tahu, Jishin(Earthquake) Sledgehammer or Pile Bunker shield for Onua, Wave Partizan and Nami Rotor for Gali.
What kind of material do you recommend when buying these mask for painting? I'm trying to get one on shapways but there's so many options. Just trying to paint a ignika in pearl gold.

No these are junk, the official of 2008 is an upgrade and awesome looking to fight back the shadow. The original look is awesome campared to these stupid mocs, they depicted the final battle upgrade and look way natural like the original one you fricking bastards.

You're right, on such a small and lightweight scale you should be able to use anything to increase friction, possibly even just a tiny bit of Blu-tac!

What kind of material do you recommend when buying these mask for painting?
I'm trying to get one on shapways but there's so many options. Just trying to paint a ignika in pearl gold.
Heya, I'm afraid I haven't got any experience buying from Shapeways, but most 3D-printed materials should be good as long as you prime them. Otherwise ask around on Discord servers, etc. Good luck!

The file is fine, it was just my print that was too tight, but at least it attaches with friction

No these are junk, the official of 2008 is an upgrade and awesome looking to fight back the shadow. The original look is awesome campared to these stupid mocs, they depicted the final battle upgrade and look way natural like the original one you fricking bastards.
