    that leg structure is called Digitigrade

    • @HunhowsShadowStalker
      @HunhowsShadowStalker 8 месяцев назад +21

      Digitigrade works for most animals, as it refers to walking on your toes.
      Alternatively, it could also be unguligrade, referring to walking on hooves.
      Humans (and bears) are plantigrade, walking on flat feet.

    • @jameswalker199
      @jameswalker199 Месяц назад

      Or possibly Unguligrade, which refers to the peculiar way horse legs work. The third option is Plantigrade, which is how human legs work.

    I remember, from a few years back, when me and a friend went on a full blown investigation to figure out how to make the perfect moc of Makuta from the movies (I would take the legal route, while he would go for a more artistic route where illegal techniques would be used). We’d examine every scene Makuta appeared in with a fine-toothed comb to get whatever details we could, and while it wasn’t what we were looking for it was interesting to find the inspiration for Makuta’s movie design when my friend dug up the concept art and prototype build. Fun memories.

    7:15 These are known as "digitigrade" legs. They're mistakenly called "reverse joint" legs because often times the thighs can't be seen (such as in the case of most birds). The hip and knee are in the right place, it's just that the ankle acts as a second joint and the rest of the foot/toes are where our feet would be. Human legs are known as "plantigrade".

  • @HadrorexHun
    @HadrorexHun 8 месяцев назад +5

    You missed a few things. The mask that is supposed to be glued to the vahi is a normal pakari not a pakari nuva. That way you can easily see the resemblence to how his mask looks in the film. There is no version of his legs that uses "32173" as the lower leg. It is 2 rahkshi backs connected by 2 "32172". It makes him incredibly unstable, much more so than in your video. I do like your version though, minus the custom mask.

    • @SyntaxTsundere
      @SyntaxTsundere 8 месяцев назад +1

      I would say that the movie model and concept art is indication enough that 32173 was, at one point, considered for the lower leg.

    • @nickolaswilcox425
      @nickolaswilcox425 8 месяцев назад +1

      yeah, one of the theories is that the nuva just ended up in the pile of parts and was sold with it with no clear way to identify what was actually supposed to be there or not at the time
      incidentally its actually feasible to attach the vahi and pakari without glue using others pieces to build a mount for the vahi, but its not the most stable arrangement and you are still sacrificing a yahi unless you want it to be gold or orange, both quite feasible though

    • @brickthumb
      @brickthumb  8 месяцев назад +1

      As Syntax said, the Slizer piece in the concept art is pretty good evidence in my eyes that it was supposed to be there at some point. I imagine it just got lost when the second legs were being trialled. As for the mask, I guess we will never know exactly how things played out. You're right that the concept art is clearly a regular Pakari, but the Pakari Nuva in the photo has clearly been sprayed black, and I cant imagine why anyone would do that unless they were giving the two pieces a coat of paint after fixing them together. But mysteries and speculation is kinda what makes these things fun, no?

    I'm so torn here because I like how much taller and more imposing this is but the case for stability is a great one to make, if only those 2006 pistons existed in 2003 we probably could have had the best of both worlds. Or the friction joints in '04 but those age very bad. The final legs do look kinda silly especially in conjunction with his lanky arms. A middle ground with the ratchet joints would have nice because those definitely help him keep a solid stance, if they connected via the balls on the Rahkshi back I'd never get him to stay standing. Points to the final thing for bulk though, if nothing else he does look a lot more solid

    Can we hope for the mask model reveal?

    Model used in the movie always look imposing and really cool. Unlike the physical version. I always found it loook ugly as hell x). Glad the concepts are out there. All the movie models are great to be honest. Especially the Rakhshi.

      I am always amazed by people's moc renditions of Movie Makuta, some of them capturing the look to a tee.

    I think this version might be my canon one. I never enjoyed the makuta we got in the set especially the mask

    I think you should keep the mask the same as you made it to be

    This version is actually a lot cooler than the official release version. It was most definitely the stability that made them change it.
    I'd like to make this for myself, but titan pieces are a lot harder to get spares of than canister pieces.

    Actually, this design looks a lot cooler than the final, despite some of it's flaws. However, I think they should of released this version and maybe give it some tweaking.

    Where'd you get those images of the dinosaur toys?

    • @me_a_person
      @me_a_person 8 месяцев назад +1

      They're probably Star Wars A New Hope action figure line concepts

    • @IamDinoCrispo
      @IamDinoCrispo 8 месяцев назад +1

      No I think they’re Dinotopia prototypes they just used stormtroopers, there's two Kenner Jurassic Park toys and a rubber Brachiosaurus I've never seen. There's even what looks like James Gurney art behind the Brach

    • @brickthumb
      @brickthumb  8 месяцев назад +1

      They're mock ups for Dinotopia, as DinoCrispo said. The Brachiosaurus is an unreleased prototype for Jurassic park, so its three layers of crazy, a mock up, based on a prototype, with Star Wars thrown in lol.

      @@IamDinoCrispo Dinotopia was actually what inspired Naboo in Episode 1.
