      Cheers buddy... I did ask my dear friend at Watch Crazy if he thought I should, as I have recently only posted about the GWG-1000... well I can't help it, it just wants to be on my wrist all the time LML :-P
      How did you like the new experience on your GWG, now you know about the secret test screen??
      Cheers!

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman As I'm still working in home office I shouldn't have too much use of those now, right? Oh, quite the contrary!
      You see, I just got myself a second, used 1A3ER model from Ebay in brilliant condition for a good price (< 300 Euros). Yes, really! ;-)
      Why the hell would I buy another one? Three reasons - and you see where the test screens fit in:
      1) I had a minor but lengthy health problem which I just resolved after two years and I needed something to reward myself. For that kind of money I could of course have bought the newer GG-B100 but I didn't even consider it after I learned its specs and saw reviews last year. To me the GWG-1000 is the ultimate "big watch" and the best one Casio has produced -- and yes, I had a look at other brands, too, but nothing came close. I'm still totally convinced after four years. Therefore this purchase felt like the right kind of gratification and I already used the test screens to make sure the Ebay one works as well as it looks!
      2) The regular 1A3ER "ammo case optic" model is the only G-Shock model I have. Why? I pretty much love everything about it but next to its functionality two of the main reasons are that it a) has (in my humble opinion!) the best and most legible analog watchface of all G-Shocks and that b) it is a no-nonsense, unabashedly "male" watch. It's a standout in our "softened" society - and it's also, no pun intended, a "timeless" watch. It will look as great in ten years as it looks now!
      I love wearing it, even together with a suit which results in interesting discussions as people don't expect such a watch. Then I say stuff like "I just wear it today because I wanted to test the pressure sensor in the plane." LOL! Everybody suspects that it's a sub 50 Euro watch - until I begin to recite its feature list. I don't have a massive ego or want to impress with expensive items, you see, but I love to surprise people with stuff they don't expect at all. Open their eyes a bit... and, yes, I'm also fun on parties! ;-)
      So, summarised, I want this watch to be with me until the end (imagine the looks on the faces of the nurses when they find out what watch I'm wearing!) -- and I figured, that the best way would be simply to get a second one. Especially given the prices of spare parts right now - how expensive will they be in, say, 10 years from now? If they are available, that is. Test screens will be useful if it ever needs repair.
      3) While I (literally) love this watch to death I want to have a more unique one: I want to have one with a POSITIVE LCD! While the regular negative display looks very well I suspect that an "old style" positive display would be much more legible and don't look too shabby on it. I have seen images of this but I want to see it in person and **will** therefore modify one of my two "Muddies"! I have already found out how to get the module out without damaging anything but I need a good polarizer before I attempt the job on the module.
      I'm quite the tinkerer and love to repair stuff if possible to prevent throwing it away. After I repaired a broken off USB connector on an Android tablet a few years ago I was so stoked that I began to repair other stuff, watch RUclips channels like "My Mate Vince" (brilliant guy!) and I now have more tools than ever (including an oscilloscope and a relatively good camera microscope). Changing the display on this watch will be another "achievement unlocked!" experience for me. Obviously, the test screens will be of use after I put the watch together!
      You see, there's plenty of use and your work certainly wasn't in vain!
      I hope this text was as entertaining for you to read as it was for me to write - to all others I apologize! ;-)

      @@oldguy9051 Well I've just pinned your comment as not only did that take you time to write, but the fact that you are out of a danger health moment, and this to me my friend is something that's I can relate too after my motorcycle accident, and rewarding yourself with the GWG is a really good choice. I saw the GWG a few good years ago for the first time, and as I had the Gulfmaster I didn't need such closeness, they are very similar... but the difference is LAND and SEA, so now after owning the GWG for a little while I can now understand why it's so good. As I said in my video 'It's a piece of cake' and this summed it up perfectly. I came with that conclusion after a week and told my dear buddy at Watch Crazy, and he thought that was perfect... it also made the mini movie fit all in place with the punchline :))
      It has all you need, and of course you need to complement it also with your own skills to make it great :)
      I still like my GG-B100, as this is really nice for everyday... but the GWG-1000 has that level of its own, and the build and look is just so damn good!
      I look forward to your positive LCD mod, and if you want a picture shared, then just email me and I'll give you a little community page of your own :))
      I know what you mean, the GWG is a true blokes watch, and not for the soft centred... great comment my friend, with a good breakdown of all the points you like :)

    Awesome tutorial Mr Rangeman! I mean not only this one but also the full version! Thank you very much !!! Just watched both of them and it has been extremely helpful to me once I just got my gw-1000 1a1 version. One quick question if I may. During the SFT testing, my watch just displayed "MIN 0" (instead of "MIN-1") then "HOUR-1" as expected. I have searched in some forums already but got no info so far. Does this mean my whatch have an issue or even need some additional adjustment / calibration? Many thanks again for the videos! Cheers!

    I tried this with my Invicta. It does not work. That piece of junk is going back to Amazon. But these button combinations are great, like playing Tekken in 2000. But seriously, what interests me most is SLR. In which case would an error be displayed? Only if the function fails completely, or the solar panel could also lose performance and simply charge more slowly? Is that even possible? These are weird questions, but it's not that easy to find information about them.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад +1

      Never an odd question with me my friend.. and as you know I do like a pointless test too :-P
      Solar panels do deteriorate, but this is more upon those that sit on roof tops being in all weathers, while a watch is worn and gets less abused, so really should have a life long life :))
      If the solar test was a fail, then 888 would not be present... solar either works or doesn't, and as it's much more simple on a watch, you have nothing to fear. They can however discolour, but with the GWG and many other analog solar watches, they have a texture so it's not seen. I had a GW-9200 Riseman, and the solar panel was a little on the white side, not by much, but was noticeable... I'm guessing someone left it in the sunshine all the time???

    • @MartinLuetzelberger
      @MartinLuetzelberger 3 года назад +2

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman My Riseman was also tortured by overheating for a long time. Apart from a brighter battery indicator, the watch survived well. I changed the battery after 11 years and it works as well as on the first day. It was your video with the Lux Meter that changed my behavior. At the moment we have many hours of daylight. Put the watch at a window and normal daylight will fill the battery. The solar watches that I don't use are in a closet, the dials face a window. The watches are always fully charged, no sunlight, no heat, no problems. Unfortunately, you can see a lot of people who still cook their watches in the sun. I am infinitely grateful for the Lux Meter video, it really helped me. 🙏 Wish you a nice weekend!

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 года назад +1

      @@MartinLuetzelberger So pleased the LUX video helped... it wasn't on a science level, but gave a good idea about which light is optimum at the time :)
      CoolFire is really helpful, but more with the Eco-Drives from Citizen, these take many many hours to charge fully.... I guess the GG-B100 does take the worry away for those few years, and being that I had battery only ABC ProTrek's is't not an issue to change a battery.
      Cheers for your reply and wish you also a nice weekend :))
