Back in the 70s we had a group of guys with their hot rods hang out in the library parking lot and we're all standing there talking to one another and we hear this deep Rumble and this beautiful Mustang Fastback pulls into the lot and the closer it gets we see an elderly woman driving the car and when she stopped we asked if we could look at the motor it was a 427 dual quad she stated that it was her son's car and she only drove it to library and to get groceries unbelievable Wicked car
I don't know how to post pics here but I'll try to attach a link to my photobucket in the video description. The pics of the fastback during restoration are mixed throughout the different pages if you want to search through them. I would like to do another one with the other 427 but not make it as nice so I would be more likely to take it drag racing and drive it on not so nice days. I won't take my current car out if there is a chance of rain.
When I got mine it was a just a shell but all the metal you mentioned plus more had already been replaced, although not finished out very well. Any fastback is worth saving in my opinion. I'd like to find another one too for my other 427 engine I have on a stand.
And if its dealer installed it certainly is not factory. Kevin Marti should know. I just got a Mari report the other day for a 68 GT J code fastback I am looking at. I have two coups now and used to have an S code fastback. Dying to get another fastback but the one I am looking at needs a lot of rust repairs underneath. How was yours when you started? This one will need full floor, aprons, frame rails and torque boxes. The best thing about it is that its complete an non molested.
Dealer installed 427's yes, but no factory cars have ever turned up with a 427 and been authenticated. It would be awesome to find a true W code 68 427 mustang but Kevin Marti (who has the Ford factory records) says none were produced.
What would you do with two? His and hers? Did you farm out much of the work or do it yourself? You should post some before and after pics. I would certainly enjoy that.
No I built the car I wanted. Actually there were no factory 427 mustangs built even though it was listed on the option sheet. There were only a few 427 shelby mustangs produced but they were 67's.
I saw a thread on a mustang site with quoted emails from a dealer who said they made 5 68 427 cars as experimental. Who knows. I have seen some Sasquatches actually turn up in the Mopar world.
Its cool that all the vids basically have the same title. Makes it ez to tell one from the others.

I did everything myself on the restoration with the exception of the engine build and I helped on the body and paint.
