Yes, these are just like the ones from the tv show Roseanne. Tom Arnold is from Iowa and that is where they got the idea. This is the base recipe, add whatever you would like. What toppings/condiments would you use on yours?

Cheese... okay, it's a maid rite and I'm almost afraid of putting cheese on it because they're already basically perfect. I thought, "okay I can't disagree with cheesing up anything but technically that's not a maid rite." I then looked at their current menu and evidently they've diversified their offerings over the last 15 years. When I saw the blue cheese, I saw myself out. :) I'm sure it's great but it's hard to imagine ordering one, because the original sandwich is already the top of the mountain and anything else is sure to be downhill from there. I'll try the recipe (sans cheese), as I'm jonesin for one. Thanks for posting it

Am definitely going to try this. Am going to try Oxo chicken stock cubes as it's rare to get chicken broth in the UK (it's usually cream of chicken). Have only ever tried solid burger patties here so a loose meat sandwich Will be something I'm looking forward to. I might try some different cheeses to cheddar as well like Red Leicester, Parmesan or Danish Blue.

Hi Mark! Yes, for sure play around with it. Sometimes, I melt a little bit of cheese in with the meat before serving. Put it on the top during the last few minutes of cooking just like a burger. Let me know what you think if you try it!

Originally from Sioux City where we call loose meats “ Taverns ” and I absolutely love them but we add mustard and vinegar to the meat and ketchup is frowned upon. Cheers

When cooking the beef, add a chicken bullion cube or chicken stock. It's Maid-Rite's secret! Thank me later

I'm from Burlington Iowa but living in Indiana now the next time you do this please add the sturgeon potato chips then it will really be authentic I have been eating maid-rites in the early 60s if that's the way they served them plus homemade root beer😊

I have never seen a Heinz Worcestershire sauce before. We tend to get the original Lee and Perrins one. I do a version of this with beans in chilli sauce but I have to make them for other people as it brings out my ocd because it goes everywhere when I eat it.

Hahaha! So true! I forgot to say to serve these with a fork! We love Lee and Perrins but it has been hard to find since last year.

you could use a spoonful of Marmite mixed in a cup of boiling water, instead of chicken stock.
