    That is the way to UNBOX instead of a full video taking out. I am committed to your channel. Just got into this hobby at 76 and got the redcat Everest 10. This hobby has brought a new interest in my life. Thank you.

    Has it only been a year, Wow. It's no exaggeration that this is the Video that got me back into RC in 2021. My Gen8 was my 1st New RC in 20 years, and wow what a ride it has been. When I think about it I am shocked and I lived it. RC took over my life in 2021, the Highs and the Lows made it a fun and interesting year of learning across multiple disciplines and renewed my passion for my Full Scale trucks. THANKS GUYS for all the great videos and the inspiration !

    Kumusta po sa inyong lahat sa U.S. Ako po si Mike, from Mike’s RC review in Melbourne Australia. I just want to say how much I love your vids and how honest I think your reviews are. I got into this hobby 6 months ago when I lost my full time job as a New Car Sales manager at a Ford Dealership here in Melbourne Victoria Australia where I live. I have been into Giant scale Rc planes for 20+ years now and have built over 33 1/4 and 1/3 scale gas powered giants RC planes and helicopters. However I felt like I needed a bit of a change of Hobby to add to flying and building planes and i happened to stumble upon your channel & It was your review of the Traxxas TrX 4 Defender that kinda pushed me into the direction of the crawling hobby. After only 1 month of ownership of the Defender I absolutely went crazy on upgrading everything. Almost all my upgrades I consulted on your channel prior to actually buying them. I ended up installing the Axe 550 3300kv motor esc combo, flysky GT5 transmitter and receiver, Power Hd 25kg waterproof steer servo, Power HD “TR4” diff lock and 2 spd Transmission servo “so I can use 7.4v for all servos now because the power HD’s are all HV rated unlike the traxxas stock servos, a set of Pro-Line BFG Km3’s, Proline shooter composite wheels with additional wheel weights in the front, Proline Big Bore shocks with hybrid Rc4wd “king” dual rate springs to handle the almost 13lbs weight of my rig, and so much more.
    Upon taking your advise on most of my upgrades that I have installed I must say I am extremely happy with the result. All up unfortunately It has cost me over $5k AUD or just under $3700 USD incl the price of the TRX4 defender. “Yellow” version. All very worth it though in my opinion because I absolutely Love the defender and the Crawling Hobby. My current project is now the LC70 Killer Body that I will install on my TRX4. My first hard body. Got the idea also from your channel. I didn’t go the BRX01 chassis direction yet because I am actually planning to buy and go insane on upgrading a Vanquish VS10 Ultra that I also watched on your channel. So to save money I decided to just buy the Lc70 TRX4 version body and save the rest of my money for the vanquish VS10 ultra as I am in Love with the one I saw on your channel.
    Thank you for your honesty in your reviews. As you keep re iterating you don’t get freebies from these companies, maybe because of your honesty, But for us the end users, the ones who start out not knowing what to buy. Your honesty means everything as we listen to your honest reviews and honest feedback. Mabuhay po sa inyong lahat. My tagalog isn’t the best but I try to speak it where I can. We are Kapampangan by decent. My wife is tagalog so even though I grew up here I will never forget my roots. I am a very proud Filipino/Australian.
    I would seriously love to go crawling with you guys one day when we are able to visit Cali, I have been in OZ now for 33 years, since I was 5yo. My dads side all reside in Cali. In and around San Bernadino in fact.
    Unfortunately We haven’t yet been able to visit America but We plan on visiting once covid is over and it would be a dream to meet up & catch up with you guys As I watch your videos daily and it looks like you go crawling in places I could only dream of here in oz. it’s actually a small crawler community here and I haven’t yet been able to meet anyone in the Crawler hobby so I crawl Alone for now.
    We would also like to wish you all the best for the wildfires that all of you are having to endure at present. We suffered the same fires here early in 2020 as you may have also heard so we know what you are going through and it is very sad to hear so much loss of property and loss of life.
    God Bless and God Speed to you all.
    Maraming salamat po.
    Our Warmest and most sincere regards to you and your team/family kuya Francis.
    Yours sincerely.

    Redcat stepped up their game. People who didn't even glance at the Redcat crawlers definitely will be taking a look now. Me included. At $500 dollars, that is definitely a deal. The axe system alone is around $250 give or take plus the aftermarket servo right out of the box. Great additions. As far as the radio, I'm not to concerned with it. As long as I've been in RC, I've always used the RTR transmitter, BUT I have bought a DX5C a few years back and haven't used it. Ended up giving it to my brother. Next transmitter is the orange DX5 Rugged because of the waterproof nature of it. I haven't ruined a transmitter from water yet, but I've been finding myself in the rain more often. The redesigned body definitely looks a lot better than the older gen. As far as components from what I've seen, I would give it a 6/10. Price is still steep for a beginner, but for someone who's been around, it's a great deal. Right now I'm not in the market for a new crawler, but this will definitely be one I take a closer look at if the time comes.

    Thanks for the information. I'm new to crawlers, but not to R/C. I have learned if you buy a cheaper rig, and end up upgrading parts, electronics ect, you spend more in the long run. This Gen8 Axe edition hits it out of the park, everything anyone could want is in the box. Should have mine in about a week, should be fun.

    I just ordered one of these and I’m like an excited 10 year old waiting for it to arrive! I attempted to get into the hobby about 8 years ago when I bought a kit axial xr10. I had a blast putting the kit together but that’s where I stopped after I realized how much it was going to cost me to complete the package.... 😳💥
    When I was 19-20 years old I had a red 1985 reg cab on Super Swampers and a cheap body lift! Hahah and that’s what I’m determined to duplicate! I can’t justify building a real 1:1 these days because I’d rather spend that money on my house 😁🤣😂 so I’m building a scaler and I even bought my two kids some less expensive toy grade trucks.

    I can verifiably say that the Gen8 AXE edition now comes with much better foams in the tires. I put them in the freezer for an hour, and when I took them out they were just as pliable as they were before I put them in. I have a love-hate relationship with certain Chinese companies. On one hand, they listen to the customer base and fix issues their products have. On the other hand, you never know what you're going to get because they make running changes to their product lines without changing SKUs. I'm glad I got the better foams in my tires, but who knows what you might get in your box -- it depends how long it's been sitting on the shelf.

    Nice break-down on the new rig! I also agree it should’ve had the AXE 550, but the 540 isn’t a deal breaker at all. Glad to see the factory upgrades to the rest of the rig for sure!

    Rc Review -Thank You Again For Being Honest In Your Reviews. The Gen 8 Axe - Is a good starting point and good concept. I really appreciated your pros and cons on this vehicle...No matter how much you dress it up it is still a Gen 8, so we should not expect Capra like miracles out of it. I am doubting it could hang with your Trx4 Sport and your Element. We The Crawlers Are The True Winners With All That Has Come Out In 2019! I can't wait to see who will take the next step, I am hoping it will be a 10.iii of some sort.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 лет назад +1

      Right on bud. We keep it real. We keep it fun... real fun. :)
      Yeah with this body, it can't do the lines of the Element RC and TRX4 Sport. With a very light body, it will do well. Drivetrain smoothness is not there and there is very little performance upgrade support.
      But the Gen8 has cool suspension geometry and shocks. When it looks like it's gonna tip over on one front wheel, it finds it's balance and usually sits back down. Cool to observe in the video.

How do they compare to other competitors (I don’t have any real experience with others) and what is the Benifit of adjusting the collars? Is collar position really going to effect the crawling a ton? About the FlySky transmitters, they are really great. One step above FlySky is FrSky (although they made pretty bad decisions lately), but FrSky doesn't make rc cars/boats transmitters. 😕

    Love the channel and I was hoping to get your opinion as I'm stuck. I'm looking at this Gen8 Axe, the Emo AT4 and the Element Trailrunner. Each has their own upsides, but none of them have everything. I like the Trailrunner for the IFS, and the looks, but the small tire size and lack of clearance concern me. It's also quite light which means I'm spending more to weight it down. I like the AT4 for the weight, portal axles, 2 speed and looks, but the slipper and issues with the portals concern me. The Gen8 has the AXE system, but I hate the velcro and I hate the stock wheels. If you had to choose one...as it comes out of the box, which one would be your choice?
    Keep pumping out the vids and I appreciate your feedback!

    This ESC with the updated firmware has now the BEC with 4A .. I just found it these days when I was trying to check if the BEC will be capable to provide proper power to the servo to be able to achieve the 100% of its 422oz.iin of torque.

    • @razorblade7108
      @razorblade7108 4 года назад

      That's not an issue since that rating is continuous. For short periods you can push a lot more amps through it without a problem and then your servo will already be in a different situation where it only draws little current. If you need high amps for longer periods and you have brown-outs where your electronics stop working because of too high power-draw, you can install a capacitor in the system. Some high-end servos with high power draw come with a capacitor out of the box which is plugged into the BEC circuit to stabilize it.

    Gearing sounds like a "Geiger counter" when radioactivity is showing on display ha ha!Why they do not 7,4 configurate to the Servo? Maybe "durability" with 6V the Servo survive many rides more i think.

    • @0neTwo3
      @0neTwo3 4 года назад

      ka4172 I completely agree... bumping the voltage also increases the amp draw and the built-in ESC can only deliver 3amps. Probably need a 5 amp capability to reliably run it at 7.4

  • @jamesgreenan6127
    @jamesgreenan6127 5 лет назад +2

    I love your videos - for real, you're my favorite RC RUclips guy. I have a question about the 6 vs 7.4 volts on the BEC - since amps is watts divided by volts, are we sure that the wattage remains constant between the 6 and 7.4 volt settings? Since it's a limit of the ESC hardware, I'd expect the wattage to drop when the voltage is increased to keep the 'power' at the same levels.
    But I also don't really understand electricity, so there's that.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 лет назад +1

    Great upgrade to the Gen8. However, the price is too high. For less money you can get a Traxxas Bronco or Blazer with servo-select locking hubs and 2-speed transmission. Like he said, $449 would of been a better price. In my opinion, $399 would of been a game changer - especially when the original Gen8 is $299.

    love the interior move then the axial almost flat floor. has more detail dash and seats. Only thing I take away from the body is the shiny behind the seat. I would of love to see it in a two tone black but it leaves room for the mods. cool

    Closing the gap between mid and upper range rigs, i love it. I’m looking at Cross RC & VS4-10 type rigs and it would not take much to bring the new Redcat up to that standard..... Is this going to kick the hobbies standard up a notch? Will TRX4’s become entry level, Hhhmmmm..... stay tune. :o)

    I was going to but the First Gen Scout 1 for the Killer Price. I don't plan to compete, I just want to do some recreational Crawling with friends between Real Rock Crawling with my Real Rock Crawler 87 4Runner. However now after watching all your reviews, I'm now leaning towards this AXE Edition. But for that much price difference and for what I plan to do, is it that much worth it? It's a lot of money. All your help is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

    It figures, I did a ton of research for
    A year. I wanted the best all around crawler and I had Redcat in the top 3 but didn't want to do a ton of mods. I think I still made a wise choice with the TRX 4 Blazer, but I would have liked this option a couple months ago.

    Running the servo sounds like maximum longevity and durability decision and no so much an oversight IMO. The servo is rated at 6/7.4v. At 6V the servo will be less likely to get too hot as well as overpower the gears and even the steering components of the truck. At least the consumer can decide how to run the servo with the factory setup.
