    I relate fully. Steering servo will need replaced for sure at some point from failure. I’ve gotten by on the torque they make with driving style. My defender no longer has bumpers lol they def are in the way and I’ve got plastic beadlocks with lead weights. Still stock motor and has been submerged several times and ran many hours same as my son’s tactical. We are happy with performance in torque crawling and speed in hi gear especially with 3s but I’m fine with 2s unlike a slash or Losi Baja Rey etc

    My real '94 Bronco was a blast to offroad, only had 33's, 4" lift, 4.56 gears, and posis front and rear. I like the realism of this truck, it doesn't have to be the ultimate crawler. Planning on getting back into R/C soon.

    My trx4 is so good right now for crawling. stripped down it completly, all the plastic stuff and mini servos for diffs is gone. I centered the rest receiver and esc(hobbywing 1080) on the ram close to the motor, took out the receiver from the plastic box and covered it with a ballon and zipes. Got a few small 800 mah batterys and put in front between Servo(srt 35kg ) and plastic front thing. Bumpers is also gone ofc. Got heavy rims 140 grams with a modified brass Pieces around THE steering knuckle + extra weights around that 150 grams each Side. Also some weights around the differential with zip tied and glue. Body is the team c samurai only 80 grams. This is a very cheep way to get a Good crawler it beats some really expensive rigs om competion.

    Good call on the bumper removal! I did the same thing and climbing improved so much more! I replaced my tires and replaced them with aluminum rims and tires. Does so much better. I didn't want to add too much weight to it. I was able to increase my climbing angle by almost 8° increase. I can climb better straight up, but coming down its more likely to roll when I push that higher degree. Still does the best when you just remove the top cover and can pull just over a 60° angle! Can't beat that with a stick! Have you thought about putting on a lighter shell on either of your TRX4's?
    Good Video Sir!

    I despise the beeps. I put the Bluetooth module in it.
    Plus , mine never hit the ground with stock electronic's. Black Label 650oz Protek 370 brushless WP servos, Mamba X esc and 1800kv Revolver went in it. Never even ran it with the stock body either....I had a Pro-line Chevy body painted-up even before I bought the TRX4. I'm obviously one of the few that does this but I've been in the hobby for 30 years....so I have plans for every rc before I buy it.
    Anyway....you're spot-on with your review. Great video.

    PLEASE HELP!!! 😅😅😅
    I just bought the TRX4 Defender, the motor was over heating upon running for just few minutes. I took out the motor to check if there is binding, it was smooth on straights and a little tight on steering. Then I adjusted the steering points. I placed an AXIAL motor to try to see if I solved the problem. There were no problems when running straights then i tried to crawl it on something high, the motor overheated and smoke coming out from the motor. I am using all stock except for the AXIAL motor from my old rig. My battery is Zeee 7.4v 5200mAh 2s.
    Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you ❤❤❤

      I’ve been running 3s from the start for about a year now. Finally burned out my esc. I’m not sure if it burned out cuz of the 3s or just inevitability. You’ll likely burn it out at some point. When you do, get the hobbywing 1080 esc. It’s cheaper and better.

    Great tips thankyou. But the edits to your clip made it look like you forgot what you were talking about or changed your mind on what you were talking about. But yes it's some great advice and correct. I was just about to buy a Traxxas F150 Foord TRX 4 high lift but now I'm thinking about saving my money. Here in Australia that F150 high lift costs $1100.00 AU. And then it's going to need all these upgrades? Yeh well now I don't think I want it anymore.great looking body and a capable performer ,the mechanics and chassis are excellent but let down by being fitted with parts straight from the factory which need to be upgraded. A steering servo is pretty easy and so is upgrading a motor and ESC but when my local shop does not have the stock this leaves me unable to use my truck. Maybe I'm approaching this from the wrong perspective then and I need to make this truck a project and a work in progress to be built and modified and customised but not left stock standard ? It's probably going to owe me around $2000.00 AU by time I get it right and that will still be with the plastic portals not brass.traxxas has got a bad reputation for warranty also in australia.maybe due to Traxxas Australia distribution supplier?

    I have seen a video that shows heavy portal axles actually make no difference at all and in fact, as the lean angle grows it forces the tires to role on it's side and loose grip.

    • @hopNglo
      @hopNglo 7 месяцев назад

      I put brass portal covers on the front axle only on my TRX4 High Trail. It made a significant difference in roll-overs and crawl ability. However, i would not do the back wheels or add a lot more weight than just the portal covers.

  • @jameskratzer4538
    @jameskratzer4538 5 лет назад +4

    Point Blank: ADD BRASS Portals!!!
    More than anything else, they will improve low speed traction, control, and handling.
    They're NOT cheap, but for the price vs. return break, they're worth their weight in gold.
    I bought a plow attachment for my Defender, and with the brass in front, I surrender the rear diff to gain the plow lift servo, and I can clear up to 1.5" of snow from my front walk in less than 30 minutes without leaving my (covered) porch!

    Ok, some good points however, realistically, things like a bumper are what you would have to deal with in the real world. Everything is supposed to be to scale. Even problems like a rollover.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 лет назад

      Yes, there are much better bumpers to be had out there, aside from the stock ones.

    These trucks in stock form, aside from the servo, are very impressive and capable. I keep up to very modified axials and other trx4s very easily.
    Even the stock tires are great performers.

    You don't actually need an external BEC. I've been running Hitec HS-7955TG high-torque servos on the internal BECs built into my ESCs for 6 years and they all work fine. You won't find a servo that can handle 10 amps of current (or a steering system that can handle the force generated by a 10-amp servo) anyway. I'm sure Castle's 10-amp external BECs can handle the power they're rated for, but they're still just as unnecessary as 1000-watt subwoofer amplifiers or oxygen-free copper cable in your car stereo. ALL COPPER CABLE IS OXYGEN-FREE, OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE RUSTY! But I digress...

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 лет назад

      How many amps do your ESC's produce. We find that many of the RTR ESCs produce 1 amp only.

    • @deusexaethera
      @deusexaethera 5 лет назад

      @@RCReviewChannel: Depending on my power needs and motor setup, I use the SkyRC Toro SC120 (5A @ 6V), the HobbyWing 10BL60 (2A @ 6V), the HobbyWing WP880 Dual (4A @ 6V), or the HobbyWing WP1080 (3A @ 6V).
      None of these ESCs are particularly fancy, so if most ESCs only provide 1A of current then I'm going to suggest people stop buying their electronics on HobbyKing, DealExtreme, Banggood, and other factory outlet sites for no-name electronics.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 лет назад

      I think that's the key that you're using high powered ESC's with good BEC output. The RTR ones are pretty sad at 1 amp.

    • @deusexaethera
      @deusexaethera 5 лет назад

      @@RCReviewChannel: I've always seen external BECs recommended _in addition to_ an upgraded ESC, so that's the scenario I was commenting on. If you have an upgraded ESC from any reputable brand, you almost certainly don't need an external BEC, and _nobody_ needs a 10 amp external BEC.

    Another problem is the clicking sound in the transmission

    • @Hiergibtesnixzusehen
      @Hiergibtesnixzusehen 3 года назад +2

      Clicking sound is coming from this little pins, which holding the gearwheels in your transmission, they moving while driving and thats your clicking sound. Just put a little bit silicone oil (90.000 cps) on this pins, and it won't click anymore 😉

    Sorry the TRX 4 Sport(while it is a Good Solid Truck, DOES NOT Blow away anything else on the market( I own one)
    The Gen8 is a Serious Contender, with a scale Body, unlike the TRX 4 Sport and performs similarly(in some ways Better and others not) for less Money
    The HPI Venture is also a great, close contender( and comes RTR w Battery) seriously over anticipated, and almost forgotten, but nonetheless a very worthy Scale Trail Truck in HPI Style
    while the TRX 4 Sport is a great contender(with gadgetry and features)
    The Axial SCX10ll is another solid refined and retuned Proven Platform
    Own them, all and none were given to me, which creates bias- just so buyers no
    Its amusing too me how not too long ago- many of the paid you tubers were Redcat Bashers
    All the above mentioned vehicles have strengths and weaknesses as does the TRX4 Sport

    Honestly. I have no problems with my trx4 g500. J dont need it to turn that fast when im crawling or speeding. It will flip or im taking my time crawling.
    Body does get in the way sometimes. But the body can be changed easily
    Battery lasts forever. And its slow because its a crawler. Even then on 3s in high gear and goes pretty good for what it is. I love the trx4

    I don't get why Traxxas decided to make these with ultra-realistic "stockish" looking bodies and rims (like the Blazer and Bronco for example), and then put portal style axles and everything under it. I know they obviously have better ground clearance, but it's just too unrealistic, imho...
