This my favorite youtuber he is always pumping out interesting and well informed reviews 👍🏻💯 i did lots of research before buying my 1st crawler and upon his advice i purchased the TRX4 SPORT and did all his suggested mods and have not been let down i out do other rigs with a lot more money spent on the build 💯 Thank you sir for all your hard work‼
I agree and appreciate your non biased opinions. Your videos helped me decide on picking up the trx4 sport kit which is probably the best bang for buck option traxxas has.
Let me tell you that your videos also helped me to decide to get a TRX-4 one month ago, I really like the way you provide us with all the facts and info in regards to all the vehicles!! you should do a video on how to take care of any brushless or brush motor after they had been in contact with water or mud!! keep going never stop!!! Big Handshake from Costa Rica!!!
I agree 100% with your assessment. I also think the sum of all it's parts makes it's the best out there. The Vanquish stuff comes close but at 3X the price.
@@Terry12345 agreed. The good news is this vehicle has shaken up the industry and everyone was forced to step up their game. The Redcat is a great response and now the SCX10 III is Axial's answer.
I truly hope Traxxas watches your video! I agreed 99.5%, the only part I disagree-ish... lol is the bodies and bumpers. While I do agree regarding the performance, those bumpers and bodies is what I love about the TRX4. They really nailed the scale look and feel of all the versions. Maybe they could offer another version that focuses only on crawling performance, kinda like they did with the sport. For me that’s part of the challenge of driving a truly scale looking truck, a keeping it as scale as possible! Otherwise your EXACTLY right, please traxxas, I hope your watching and listening!
really good advise, my trx4 is still in the box but will be building soon so your info is helping everyone make better decisions on purchases from kits and mods.
I found out something for you, I currently own 2 trx4 sports came RTR. I then bought the Traxxas Traxx Truck, which for the money you get alot of bang for your buck. Here is 1 not advertised the regular rtr sport comes stock with a 39 tooth spur and ? Pinion. Where as the Trx4 Traxx Edition rtr comes with a 45 tooth spur and an 11 pinion & a 16 pinion. There is no videos on RUclips explaining this. I just noticed the top speed differences, but also the low speed control in the traxx model running tires.
Thanks to you, Holmes and SBG I bought my first trail scale rock crawler. It's nice to have the best first time out. fully "optioned" my trx4 named Heavy Metal with a hi-lift mod 120mm shocks 2.2 beadlocks and mud slingers. All rebuilt with alloy and brass parts.. -how do you know you've gone to far until you go too far right😂 ❤trx-4
I didn’t get to research much about this car before I got it because I got it VERY out of nowhere but it has been one of my dream rc cars for a while so I’m excited to drive it
I started RC hobby few months ago and your videos have been super helpful. I got a Redcat Gen7 Sport for my son and TRX-4 Traxx for myself. I honestly can't find anything wrong with the TRX-4 stock servo, I do drive it like a real vehicle so I don't turn the wheels or expect them to turn unless I'm also moving forward or reverse. The (huge discount)package I found came with just traxx so I bought Pro-Line BFGoodrich KM3 Predators and Pro-Line Impulse plastic beadlocks, foams are Laserfoam HD 116x40, wheels and tyres are sealed like Pro-Line recommends. So far I've drove in 0°C/32°F and I must say that the tyres and foams work really well, they are soft and wrap around rocks and grip even snow and ice amazingly well. After few batteries I removed the bumpers and flipped the bumper mounts, front to back and upside down or something. I honestly don't understand why it even comes with bumpers as they are useless. Then I loosened the spring preload to lower the suspension(cog) a bit. After ten batteries I removed the expedition rack and battery tray, now the battery rests sideways between the slightly raised rock sliders and almost touch the links. Receiver box is on the front battery tray. I bought few spare plastic servo horns but so far the original is still ok. Weight now with body and tyres, no battery, is 2.7kg or 5lb 15oz. The rig crawling performance exceeds my skills. And I'm using just 8.4V NiMH. Narrow inner fenders area great keeping the snow/mud/sand out. Front and tail lights are great for scale, I'm so happy that the TRX-4 Traxx comes with those and clear windows wohooo! Sometimes I wish it would be faster than TRX-4 stuck on low gear, but sometimes I wish it would be slower. Good thing with slow crawler is that if I drive it in a park etc. a slow crawler is less annoying to others, compared to fast basher or TRX-4 on high gear. The transmitter sucks.
Correct. The servo is fine for trail running where the vehicle is usually moving. But for rock crawling, a powerful servo really is one of the most useful tools for high performance. And this TRX4 is really capable of high performance. So you're fine if that's mostly what you're doing. Keep a metal servo handy or replace it so you're not stranded out there when the plastic horn strips.
@@RCReviewChannel my TRX-4 is light, no added weight anywhere on the contrary I tried to make it as light as possible. Maybe that is why the stock servo is enough for me, usually my front tyres barely touch the rocks on steep climbs. I don't do trail running and maybe the TRX-4 Traxx with tyres(TRX-4 Sport with 11/45 single speed) is not ideal for trail running. And actually this morning I crawled on snow that had thin layer on top that was frozen, heavy TRX-4 wouldn't be able to follow me even on flat snow because it would've sunk deep. I have ordered a BEC and servo though, I haven't used the tracks at all because I was worried about the servo and ESC. And honestly it's super slow, like 3kmh or 2mph.
Yes!!! So many see our one critical video on the Gen8 for example and they think I hate it. They don't realize I've done 25 videos on the Gen8. So hopefully this will help.
I agree with most. The steering is weak but I have not broken it. I did strip the horn but replaced it with a metal one. I swapped it out only because my nephew broke his and I gave him mine. I scored a traxxas 400 and bec and installed them, holy cow what a difference. I think they want to stick with scale look of the trucks however it would be cool if they offered a rock crawler version with a smaller narrower body with high clearance bumpers and rock sliders.

Love the videos. Newer to crawling. So with the boredom of stay at home. I ended up putting a 1512 1y 2200kv castle in my trx4 blazer. To many people said it couldn’t be done so I did it lol. Lift kit servo bracket helps a ton. Started at a total joke just cause but the weight placement in it is amazing. It does not move if you’re not on the power. You can’t push it if you wanted to. Mamba x and lift kit and servo are only other upgrades. Honestly has totally changed it. Had the 3800kv fun motor in it before.

Another great job! I purchased the new tan TRX4 SPORT and the Traxxas light kit. I'd like for the lights to be radio controllable. What radio should I consider for 3-plus channels. Thanks
This video is spot on. I haven't had my TRX 4 Blazer for very long but I really like it. I changed the steering servo and servo horn, added the BEC, added outer brass portal weight covers to the front axle, and the Gens Ace 3600mah battery to the front tray, (fits perfect), this really helped with control. I have a tip I'd like to pass on, i apologize if this is common knowledge but I haven't read or seen it mentioned. I agree with what was said about the radio, I bought the Link Module but you are right, I should not have had to. It was worth it just for setting endpoints and firmware updates to me. Anyway, the TRX 4 has five different modes programmed into the ESC depending on how you want it to respond. I didn't like the modulation in the default mode, and really hated the full on reverse, very jumpy and hard to control. I set the ESC to "Crawl Mode" and then set the Multi-function knob to Braking %. Doing this made a huge difference in forward modulation but even better, it gave me the ability to adjust reverse speed with the Multi-function knob. I set it between 20-30%, I can now back up ever so slightly to reposition with out having it go flying backwards down the hill, big improvement. This will give you 100% forward, 100% hill hold at neutral, and instant reverse, be careful in second gear, at speed, to not just drop to neutral or it can flip over forward. This worked for me, hopefully it is possible for all. These adjustments can all be made without the module following the online manual and blinking lights, but what a pain.
Ha, I doubt it. That is what I was trying to do when I got to that point. At best all I could get the Brake % to do in the other modes was slow down how fast it applied 100% Reverse. Maybe you or others can play with it and see if there is a way with the stock ESC.
FC. Totally agree with your five goods and bads about the TRX4. Traxxas initially had all my business; but, have become shelf queens after acquiring Axial, Element and Vanquish crawlers. Time for Traxxas to raise the bar again as they did with the TRX4...if they can... TRX6 was a try; but, I am only into 4-wheelers myself.
Awesome vid man. After building up a chassis kid and running it for a while I can definitely confirm all of these. Unfortunately some of them are pretty common to all off the shelf crawlers. Traxxas does have some of the best tires that come stock. I do wish they had metal beadlocks available. And pretty much all of them need a servo upgrade. One question I have it has anybody used the fly sky 6 with a TRX4? How does having those potentiometer dials as channels that you use for your diff servos work? it is an easy finding transmitters that have lots of channels that are just on off. And I am newbie enough to not know what it would be like trying to run those servos with a knob.
I use the Flysky GT5 transmitter and love it with the Defender. Turning the knobs to lock/unlock the diffs is a little slower than flicking a switch, but I don't find that a problem. Crawling usually doesn't need split-second decisions and you have time to lock one or both diffs. Plus you now have the option to adjust the endpoints for the servos and can take a little strain away from them.
Dear Sir, really like your videos. i have a trx4 and i am now on my 3rd servo and also added a traxxas BEC and my steering is still slow and stalling..! any hints and tips to fix this problem please?
I agree wholeheartedly with you. My main gripe is the controller. Throttle modulation is bad. It’s catchy and I always complain when I’m in a critical spot and need about %2 more throttle input but it jumps to about %4 when the trigger moves with a notchy grabby feel. Otherwise excellent. My son and I buried them, rolled off hills etc only had to replace the servos and the horns. Oh I broke a slider when it rolled off steep hill and bounced 5’ down hill into blunt rock. I honestly wasn’t going to be surprised if I had to find a whee that tore off but it was gtg just a plastic slider... not getting metal because it will catch on the rock. ✌🏼
Exactly!!!!!! We have access to better controllers now and can see a world of difference. And some of the controllers are cheaper than the stock TRX4. This one is good. 6-channel ruclips.net/video/0rUW8VyooaI/видео.html
Hey RCReview tell me what’s best for brushless trail master and battery lipo I have Traxxas trx-4 factory Titan and Nimh battery was terrible about 10 miles per hour
Building the TRX4 Sport assembly Kit I agree with you on all fronts especially now that I’ve built an Element Enduro assembly Kit. The TRX4 plastics especially on the axle housings and shock towers are 10x better than the Element. At $280 the TRX4 Sport Assembly Kit would be worth it even if it didn’t come with wheels and tires or a body. At $239 my Element needed to be upgraded out of the box just so I wouldn’t constantly compare the crap parts of the Element to my TRX4 once I built it. Element necessary upgrades are metal pivot balls, better shock towers and panhard mount (I did the ST Racing but you can go less expensive), metal servo horn, and metal hexes (one interesting piece is you need thicker (8mm) hexes to fit most beadlocks). All in all I spent and extra $100 just to make it close to equivalent in terms of quality to my TRX4 Sport Kit and still had to buy wheels and tires and a body. The TRX4 Sport is the best assembly kit in terms of value and ease of build without frustrations
Hi, very informative Video. What Radio is recommended if lights, winch and maybe other stuff is wanted to be controlled? Same for Motor&ECU and Steering Servo.
Slim chance you will answer me?? I am getting ready to make my first purchase of a crawler. TRX four is it the top of my list!! Is it still a good choice. Or is there a better choice for a first purchase? Thanks
Love your videos man. Is the capra good for its price? The kit version. I have been looking at them and I saw yours in the back and loved the color. What is your opinion on it? Was it a smooth build? I have been saving up for a long time. It will be ready to run once I build it right. I don't need to buy anything else, correct?
With most kits you will need to purchase the servos, remote & reciever and esc motor combo... the capra is an amazing rig but for best bang 4 your buck buy a trx4 sport its a rtr just needs a battery and will out do the capra in most situations check out my channel i have running vids of both the trx4 and capra 👍🏻 have a great day and stay safe 💯

I like the technic of the portal axles, locking diffs and 2 speed transmission and the body’s look great. So many people say it’s a great car. But upgrading the servo and radio rigtht away doesn’t sound good. I will reconsider it. Are there any good altrnatives?
I'm going to have to tear down my gearbox after running 5 packs through it. Yeah, it clicks...sigh. And I run 10wt shock oil now, best thing ever, the shocks actually work now.
Your channel inspires me. I hope some day my son and I know as much and are as helpful as you are. :-) P.S. I appreciate that you focus on material versus splash. The quality of the video/production is good, but the focus is on information.
I remember in one of your TRX 4 videos, you mentioned that you are able to manually lock the truck into the low gear setting, how do you do that? I have been stuck in high gear and it kind of ruins the slow crawl aspect of the hobby.
@@beamerwave3313 I understand that the red switch controls the servo that goes from low to high. I am asking is theres a way to manually lock it in low regardless of what the red switch is on - as I would like to remove all the micro servo's
Love your reviews, very technical and detailed. I just joined your channel recently, have you ever done a review on the Summit 1/10 scale? good and the bad.
So I recently got the Hobbywing axe system on my trx4 sport. It’s just hard to modulate with stock radio. Like you said. What radio do you recommend for upgrading? I want to have a nice throttle feel.
I can’t disagree with a single thing you said I own the defender model of this it’s a great trail rig it’s not the best crawler but it is super top-heavy however for what I’m doing with it it’s great I think the cool thing is they offer many different models for different styles I like the Land Rover because I wanted to build something super scale so I bought a clear body getting ready to do paint all kinds of 3-D printed accessories maybe even a trailer tent now I need to actually buy a legit rock crawler

I'm confused. Just watched one of your videos where you trashed the trx4 - cheap servos, too expensive for what you get. Now you are gushing over it????
Actually he tells the truth. He's clearly saying for the money you spend you should get better electronics but traxxas makes the best truck in crawling electronics not included But red cat just release about a year ago The Gen. 8 axe edition With all top of the line electronics but it's still was not as good as a trax's trx 4 With top of the line electronics.
Traxxas, like Glock for example, has the advantage of a huge after market with tons of parts available from different manufacturers. unfortunately in both example most of the parts are either overpriced, unnecessary or even weakening the entire system.
Yep i agreed with you sir,why they sell the useless parts so expensive..i love traxxas and everyone loves it but not just because of a million fans of traxxas they can sell it with expensive price for the useless part isn't🤣🤣

I like this series. Very informative.
Nice job , up front no fat and informative as always ....
Cheers 🥂 🖖
What are the wheels you have on that Defender? They look awesome
Just bought the car and want some more informations about it. Thank you for that! 👍💪
Slim chance you will answer me?? I am getting ready to make my first purchase of a crawler. TRX four is it the top of my list!! Is it still a good choice. Or is there a better choice for a first purchase?
Thanks
Can't wait for you to review the new Axial SCX 10 3 !!! This will be very interesting, especially when compared to the TRX 4 😉!
I got mine 3 days ago, swapped the servo as soon as opened and striped the plastic servo horn in an hour. I’m running traxx so that doesn’t help
I was thinking to buy a scaler, so about your experience what you can suggest to me? I like very much traxxas model's.
Is my first scaler and I would like something high-performance with the possibility of upgrading it. There are many name in this hobby. What do you think about Tamiya? Thanks ;-)
Hey RC Review Tell Me What's Best For Brushed for 12T my Land Rover Defender and i have pretty slow for stock titan 550 and battery nimh 7 cell i liked for 3s lipo 11.1 volts thank you!!!
It's just remember the module has angle if you're using your phone and man it is nice
You can also customize your cluster on your phone
You could always give me one. 😜 would love it. Thanks Great vids.
hi am from from nepal and i own a trx4 defender nd i guess am d only one who has a rc nd plays with it its really hard for me to get parts in nepal so i hab to wait for months to get am planning to get another rc for more like rock crawling could u suggest me one please
Thanks for the video, I really like your honest comment. But now I doubt. I’m at the point of buying the trx4 kit. Should I buy it, Is it worth the money? I like the technic of the portal axles, locking diffs and 2 speed transmission and the body’s look great. So many people say it’s a great car. But upgrading the servo and radio rigtht away doesn’t sound good. I will reconsider it. Are there any good altrnatives?
Please review the red at Everest ten it’s very affordable but you should give it a chance
P.S. I appreciate that you focus on material versus splash. The quality of the video/production is good, but the focus is on information.
Surprised that my horn hasn’t broke, I’ve rolled down numerous +30 foot steep hills lol
Like your videos very informative. Just wondering what wheels and tyres are they please I rather like the look of those wheels. Thank you
i’d like to know if i can put a 4s lipo and a stock motor?, if nothing breaks or something like that
I remember in one of your TRX 4 videos, you mentioned that you are able to manually lock the truck into the low gear setting, how do you do that? I have been stuck in high gear and it kind of ruins the slow crawl aspect of the hobby.
It’s the red switch
@@beamerwave3313 I understand that the red switch controls the servo that goes from low to high. I am asking is theres a way to manually lock it in low regardless of what the red switch is on - as I would like to remove all the micro servo's
This still my favorite video of yours.
Great channel!!! What are those wheels on your TRX4, and where can I get them? Thanks
Can you please do a vídeo like this on the axial scx10 2????
What i like about traxxas is their trx4 doesnt use any nuts. Every bolt is bolted on the subframe
Steering trim is right there! ''points at knob labled Steering Trim*
Love your reviews, very technical and detailed.
I just joined your channel recently, have you ever done a review on the Summit 1/10 scale? good and the bad.
No. I owned that vehicle 12 years ago as my son was growing up. Currently, just focused on crawlers.
What do you think about Japanese Tamiya
Thank you for nice videos I all ready bought TRX-4 Defender. You help me to Choose right one for me.I cant wait until will arrived. ;-)
So I recently got the Hobbywing axe system on my trx4 sport. It’s just hard to modulate with stock radio. Like you said. What radio do you recommend for upgrading? I want to have a nice throttle feel.
This one ruclips.net/video/0rUW8VyooaI/видео.html
RC Review perfect! So the throttle should feel better and smoother than the stock TQi?
RC Review just installed it. Thank you!
#4 is also on the traxxas summit
Great video!!! Thanks for be a honest!!
What rims do you have on the trx4? And are the tires pumped up with air?
I like your honest opinion about some of the useless upgrades.
thank you
Thanks again for the instructions!
Like and greeating from Crawler RC chanel
One of the trailing arms eyelet is bent.
Can’t believe you didn’t mention the micro servos being a weak point.....
very good point. We're making a new video and that will be mentioned.
Keep Doing a great job any information is great 👍
ANOTHER AWESOME DETAILED REVIEW 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
GREAT REVIEW. I subscribed.
Quality info dude
Great honest video 👍
Thank you. Too many videos out there are afraid to mention any Cons of Weaknesses of ANY vehicle.
@@RCReviewChannel I have only got into rc lately and it was your channel that gave me the advice i needed to get my first crawler. Got the Sendero, love it. If Im needing any advice I come to your channel first as I know i can trust what you say 👍👌
Great video. Love these videos. Great info. There's a reason why traxxas is king. Except for there transmitters
Very good video. Just thanks to you!
Thank you for saving me from buying it rtr I think I will build it with my own remote
I love the U.S. pricing. In Germany cost a TRX-4 Blazer €599,- This is nearly 200 Bucks more. This is a little bit rip-off.
amo esses carrinhos, infelizmente não posso comprar um desses pra mim e meu filho que é autista...
I took the time to translate. Is this correct?
"I love these strollers, unfortunately I can't buy one for myself and my son who is autistic ..."
Another great vid.
Traxxas, like Glock for example, has the advantage of a huge after market with tons of parts available from different manufacturers. unfortunately in both example most of the parts are either overpriced, unnecessary or even weakening the entire system.
LOVE MY TRX4 LANDY 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
good informative video
Yep i agreed with you sir,why they sell the useless parts so expensive..i love traxxas and everyone loves it but not just because of a million fans of traxxas they can sell it with expensive price for the useless part isn't🤣🤣
Very useful words..i agree with it all. Traxxas seems like the Apple 🍎 of Rc and most of it is unnecessary imo. I DELETED AND DELETED the wack parts you mentioned.. Keep up the great work and research.
Yup. they have good vehicles but have to simplify and offer some real performance upgrades.
great video.!!!
Buy a Trx4 if you are newcomer, you won't regret.
Jeremy Beckman rc traxxas land rover defender
I agree with you a 100% sir
My favorite part of the video is the radio traxxas ass radio's, There just not that COOL, When the traxxas trx4 sport was released is when traxxas should have made the change, Too a little bit better radio's,,, In the future!!There's just no functions, My Traxxas trx4 sport is one though Rig,,, 💯👌 No problems to report, just the RTR servo, 😄👍

wonderful video, beautiful, like my friend 👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I had a Sport but, I ended selling it. I'm just not a fan of Traxxas.
