RC Review have you addressed the interference with the front links? and if so what did you do to fix the issue? I’ve done these mods on my TRX4 and love the extra articulation but think it could be a little better if the front links weren’t bottoming out so soon! Love the channel and the detailed info!
you all probably dont give a damn but does anybody know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@River Immanuel thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I have mine set up with 10w oil, Traxxas soft springs (I think white rating) and the front drag links adjusted so they don't interfere as much with the axle housing while under full articulation and the bump stop spacers removed. The kit is a bit over priced but it makes a big difference for crawling when properly set up. Made mine long travel.
"I like how ya do it! Not the usual exalted rapperwannabe kiddo with hat, here you are a serious man doing a professional review, a calm man that speaks relaxed and put the viewer on a sofa with a warm cover on him." Sincerely, your new sub.
Ordered mine from my local shop today. $129 for colored kit, $119 for black. As I mention on another of your videos he also sells Sport RTR $299, Bronco $399, Blazer $429. No where online can come close to those prices.
As for spacer removal, rear is fine front cut in half per side cos if one removes both front the axle will flex more on the passenger side and driver side hits the servo drop mount...
If you install this kit and still want to crawl, I recommend some brass upgrades. Brass portal housings, diff covers, and maybe some steel drive shafts. You want to bring your center of gravity back down as much as you can. Everything else he said is good information.
Exactly. Offset that weight. Traxxas has a bunch of new long travel springs now. White and Yellow are the key ones for this vehicle. Want the softest ones for proper sag.
RC Review I’ve been looking at the trx4 and I really want one bad. If I have $500 I’d be buying it right now. I really want the ford bronco with a long arm kit. I’ve watched your other vid with the sport and it was super capable. I got a new video idea for you. I think we’d all like to see if there’s a way we can do it ourselves with out the expensive kit that we have to modify anyway. . . Can you scavenge for some more affordable parts and maybe make a detailed video of everything you do to make it work well. Love you vids, looking forward to more trx4 vids.
I have a High trail and I’ve done very simple mods(adjusting rear shock mounts, softening springs) and it out crawls almost every stock height trx4 I have been around. If you use it to crawl and are are thinking it will have a negative impact, it only takes adjustment for it to work great!
I never thought of the TRX-4 as a Mega Truck but when Harley Designs did that one it looked great. I remember when the TRX-4 first came out Traxxas called it a basher. I don't see it that way.
I just got my kit dropped off by UPS today. I chose the black, not because of price but my choice of color. I personally think it looks better. Not so flashy and eye catching. It is a Long Arm Lift Kit, not a long travel kit. I wanted it to enable use of bigger tires. Not the 2.2 but the 1.9 Super Swamper XL (4.75”)
I think I’ll stick to trying 2.2 with no lift then. I do t want to sacrifice any more high CG on this truck. My dad taught me (43 now :) that he saw lots of high lifted trucks do poor in mud and trails etc because one side would sink or the truck roll. Same with scalers. Dad had a 1977 Chevy Cheyenne 400 small block 35” mudders cut fenders no lift gear driven transfer case. Looking to do the same low stance big tire on his bronco my defender and son’s tactical Tex-4s
I haven’t gotten my TRX-4 kit yet but I got the optional shock towers to remove the fenders so I can run a tucked rock crawler body, I figured could put bigger 2.2 tires without raising the truck. On my real world 4x4 trucks I have always put the biggest tires with minimal lift to keep it lower, 37” with a 2” level kit and fit no problem. A two beer project for a 6 hour project? I would be at 5-6 beers in by then.
I didn't use the servo drop box. I get full compression with mine. You have to add a 3mm spacer between the servo horn and the link. It must be aluminum or steel. The geometry is just fine other than full droop but that doesn't affect it one bit when climbing or articulating over obstacles. With the servo drop box, it would not get full compressing as the Panhard kits the servo horn. Since you're running a droop setup you don't need the servo drop box. Mine crawls like a mountain goat with this kit and over-size 1.9 tires stretched over 2.2 raceline wheels.
Thank you for sharing this with us!!! I was thinking the kit was $190+ tax... I was thinking $80 was going to be pushing it for the cost factor! I suppose $175 painted & $150 black is still a little better than the $190!!! I see everything in the kit and it all looks pretty awesome! But I still have a hard time with the overall cost. So here's an idea for running a 2.2" tire on a 98% stock Bronco. #1 move the front and rear bumpers out one extra hole, so they don't rub on the factory $165 body. #2 pull off, or trim the stock running boards. #3 using a dremel, remove anywhere from 1/8" to 1/4" of lexan from that exotic body. #4 if necessary, add a little longer bottom shock eyelet. I'm pretty sure Traxxas makes something that will work. #5 install a 2.2" 5.90" tall monster set of tires and enjoy. I will let you know how it turns out...
When the lift came out, I wanted it, but then compared tire scale to the scale of the truck and found out it wouldn't work how I want it to. The scale of the 1.9 tires would be like running a 36 or 37" tire. What I did instead is buy some 105-110 Proline shocks. Kept the 105 rod end on and gave it as much droop as I could. I think it works perfectly, or at least perfect for me.
@@jackk8422 That is why many people believe the TRX4 is a 1/8 scale because if you compare the overall height of the body of the Bronco to the overall height of the tire, it equates to a 36 3/4 inch tall tire. Check it out if you are ever near a full sized 79 Bronco.
I.just installed the lift on blazer and took about 2 hours and yes it's pretty involved for sure. I just got into R/C and crawling so can't really give my 2 cents on the pros and cons of the lift for crawling. But it sure looks cool. So will fine time as I go and learn. Great vid keep it up 👍
Got one for $158.00 I about shit when I saw that travel didn’t increase. Not for my defender but for my son,’s tactical. He likes mud and it gets too close to the motor. We run pyrax 1.9 so we are on the right track. The bottle didn’t say what oil but I figured it was thick and the springs are def too stiff. I am relieved to watch this and see we can tune it in. Thanks man!
I just installed this on my g500 with yeah racing axles and a pile of brass! What a totally different truck!!! Im using it more for the extra travel than a lift kit. I removed the little stops and used the orange striped springs. I wish i would have gotten the next set down but ill see what happensm
How do you like the G500 version? It's like $60 less than the Bronco so I'm heavily considering it. I do not see any real physical difference between the Bronco and the G500 except for a few degrees of approach angle,
@@warren6814 i absolutely love it. I wouldn't trade it for the bronco or blazer. The only reason its cheaper is likely because of how much ford/chevy charge for licensing. Plus with the g500 you get a light kit free!
Rewatched this after installing the lift kit on my Defender. Gonna grab me some of the softer springs. Although I did remove the shock spacers I went with some 2.2 Proline BFG Baja KR2 for my tires and some dual stage foams.
All they need to do is change the shock towers to be taller and put in longer shocks, leave most everything else alone. This would give us a little more flex without a higher center of gravity resting height. I suppose I can accomplish this on my own, if they just made the longer shocks that'd sure make it easy.
Price is crazy on my scx10ii installed just 110mm shocks kings and took 10min lol plus if you want different color links just spray it lol not bashing on traxxas I did own a slash and loved it! Being my rig with 110mm the center of gravity is pretty on point when crawling.
IMHO it would sell more if they drop the price on the lift kit. I still see this kit seating on the shelves of local store for months! Way too expensive C'mon traxxas!
I WILL AND WAS GONNA GET THE KIT! BUT THE ONLY REASON,,,IS I DONT WANT A *MALL CRAWLER* AND I DIDNT WANNA SPEND A WEEK DOING IT!!!! IM GONNA BUY THE TRAX SET
I LIKE THE ORIGINAL SHOCKS(NOT LIFTKIT SHOCKS) SO IM GONNA KEEP THEM AND RUN THEM WITH MY NEW TRAX SET")") I WAS GONNA DO LIFTKIT BUT IDE DEFF GO 2.2S AND I DID THE MATH,,,AND ITS SOOOOOO MUCH $$$ AND SOOOO MICH TIME!NOT WORTH IT TO ME!
With mine i was able to buy just the links and servo drop box and it came to shy of 90 dollars i believe it was. Then i had 110mm superlifts from rc4wd so i could adjust dampening and their normal size 2.2 mudslingers are about the size of your slightly oversized 1.9 tires. Added some wheel weights and it crawls better than before the liftkit in my case
You saved me money my friend thank you, very interesting video I've been wondering about the kit for some time, this video just popped on my feed! Love the honesty as usual brother!!
Your reviews are great with great insights about products. I use alot of your ideals they have always worked great. I got into this hobby because of my son he started watching your video before me. Now here I am a R/C ROCK CRAWLER JUNKY. Great job with videos thanks.
I have the clearance issues as well with the servo arm, the key is finding a servo that is close to the specs of the stock servo, which is hard. My promodler and reef servos are still to tall in that particular dimension. I did find a very skinny servo arm made by hudy that helped a lot. I ordered a 3brothers servo to try I think I can make it work based off the dimensions he emailed me. Or at least be a lot better off than now.
Right. Key is a low profile servo and a TRX4 servo horn. We'll try to mount the servo as well to clear. The reason it's so low is to avoid bump steer. But that's not a big deal for crawling.
RCReview I enjoy your videos! Thanks for all you do, if you do figure out a good spring to use please let us know. I totally agree with the spring being to stiff.
I made a mistake I bought my first traxx plus the battery upgrade on the battery total cost was $488 pretty steep now all the upgrades they ain't no joke either I'm going to have to get rid of my truck any takers $300.
Excellent, honest (I wish honest were something we could take for granted, but sadly not) assessment. Good to know since a buddy of mine just bought this kit (to my complete surprise) and he sometimes leans on me for tricky installations. That aside. "15wt oil" caught my ear. There are only two people I know of who run oil that thin. You and me. Ha. Also, I go with the red plungers for faster damping response. FD I don't own a Traxxas truck; I run GTS shocks on my 10ii. Thanks for the video and the channel.
Really enjoying your channel Francis...quick question on the long travel kit/servo issue. I tried this mod just for fun and found that my servo almost hits the panhard link at full droop. Did you ever find a way to fix this in your truck? I’m going to keep it this way for a while...don’t want to think about undoing all those steps! Thanks!
I was thinking about getting this but only because im running out of upgrade options on my trx4. I spent tons of money keeping a low center of gravity so I won't spend 175 to reverse my hard work. I do love the red links tho...
Maui brew co! As if I didn’t like you enough already. Lol. Just bought a trx4 blazer Lipo included kit. Only way I can get a lipo battery shipped to Maui is if it is included in a kit... I have been learning a ton from your videos. Very nervous to get into this hobby with no viable hobby shop on the island. Bought a metal servo horn. Anything else that will break immediately that I should buy?
I just bought the dual stage for mine and a few different types of tires to try with my trx4 Defender. The Hyrax and the knockoffs...be cool to see A comparison video on foams and knock off tires...maybe you have i’ll have to look
Alot of your reviews are so informative , if I'm looking for straight Talk on the Good , bad your the main source I reference to, for someone who has been out of the hobby for years till just this year. I have say I like your well rounded none preferential views on the products an even how you tell how a product can help you and its drawbacks... Cheers 🇨🇦 keep up the Great ccontent ... Ps , be great if you could include some more smaller scale content at times like 1/16 I believe ( wpl scale , Mn 90-99Defender / Toyota etc. )models as Most of your content is on 1/10 ... TY.
I know I’m super late, but what weight oil did you use? I installed the lift and I’m trying to replicate your setups - remove spacers - white long travel springs - and the oil
Im looking to lift my 79 bronco but here in Canada way to expensive for traxxas lift kit ! Was wandering if you could give me the lenght of the upgraded links ! ?
Great review thank you for the info everything was on point it didnt take that long to install but still a good chunk of time and agreed any desire in crawling those springs and oil are trash
I wonder if they addressed the interference problem with the front end since you made this video? I just installed one on a Blazer and there is no interference at all?? Also, what springs did you use? Everyone says to use the 90mm springs on the 120mm shocks but they are way too short. Maybe they stretch them out? What springs did you use?
I’m thinking about getting this lift kit for my trx4 kit, just dunno if it’s worth the $130 that’s kind of steep but it does come with new shocks n a bunch of other cool stuff! My hobbyshop must be good cus there price is a lot lower then what u paid for it
If the stock shocks can be reused in another vehicle, that offsets the cost because the stock shocks are pretty darn good. If this improves trail crawling performance, it can be worthwhile.
Hey guys, my friend recommended .39 spring rate and it’s amazing on the trx4 with the lift kit. Part number TRA8154. 10wt oil and these springs is a game changer
I landed a bronco with this kit. Threw in 50w oil to slow things down but im hating how this top heavy rig flops around. Is there a stiffer spring by chance?
So how would you fix the servo clearance issue? I'm not sure how I should fix it. Tried putting the stick servo mount back in, but the steering arm will not reach, tried a longer arm, but that seems to put alot of pressure on the components, so it might snap something.
Thank you for your reviews and more importantly, your honesty. I just got the TRX Bronco and want to upgrade to metal axle housings and brass portals. Is there a particular brand you recommend? Treal, or other?
I’m typing this early you may cover it but I just did the long arm lift kit on my bronco and put the 2.2” wheels with super swamped on and am having steering clearance issues , the inside of the tire catch’s on the suspension links , any fix’s / or is it something I have to live with
Try looking up some hex extenders or on my old trx4 I had the MIP extended axles they are like 25$ and extend the wheels out about a 8th inch on each side, that would fix your problems for sure.
nice review and honest opinions. My trx4 jeep I have designed the perfect combo for 2.2's yet setting near stock height but when needed has more travel in suspention then this $180 kit does..its a sweet set up you should check it out. There is a creek run where you get a good idea of how she stretches.. Im interested in the kit but I wont dump the coin due to I can make it happen already..
I did this not too long ago. I took the shock spacers out ran 15wt oil and put some spacers on the servo mount and flipped a rod so it doesn't touch. What springs do you recommend for the shocks
Quick question... I have just recently got the proline hyrax 4.75 for my Trx4 defender and they are hitting the body in the front when the suspension is fully pressed. Everything is stock, nothing changed and now when I check with the original wheels and tires even they are hitting the body. I did change the shock oil but that should not cause the tires to hit the body. Please help and let me know where I’m going wrong.
That 12-13 mph speed is more for trail and light bashing. This vehicle has a big range since it has unlocking differentials that allow it to handle well at speed.
If I had two trx4s I would do one with a lift kit and make it more of my mudder rig, I wouldn't do it in it it was my only rig I like the lower look I think it looks more scale.
Agree. The lift kit is more for big tires and bashing. We did figure out how to make the lift kit a long travel kit with a few mods. ruclips.net/video/IYYeajpCig4/видео.html
RCReview : Ahhh ok that makes sense. I’ve done the same. I have 3 hpi savages and I turned one into a lowered street racer. Same concept. Thank you for the reply
is there any value to the kit for the arms, if you are changing up the shocks anyways, as in, is there a more economical way to get longer links else were with a different long travel shock and spring set up? do you even need the longer links if you are only interested in more travel but don't wanna any extra height?
No, you don't need the longer links. Ride-height is what really determines the length of the links. If you keeping that roughly the same, given softer springs, it's best to leave them stock length.
So from watching the channel and looking at all the TRX4 models , here’s what I’m going to try as regards suspension tuning , TRX4 Defender , yellow front springs , white rear springs , 20 weight shock oil for the rear shocks and 10 weight oil for the front shocks TRX4 Sport , yellow front springs , white rear springs , 10 weight front shock oil 20 weight rear shock oil Does this seem correct RC Review ? And would you advise getting yellow springs for the front and white for the rear with the lift kit to achieve more sag ?? Trying to get some feedback before purchasing the lift kit .... in red .... more money 🤦🏻♂️ Love the channel , would like to see more on the RC Review TRX 4 sport and what mods you’ve installed 💆🏻♂️
Correct. For the lift kit, we are using the soft springs that came with the Redcat Gen8. They are long enough. And it looks like Traxxas just released a bunch of soft springs for the Long Travel Kit. www.amainhobbies.com/search?s=long+arm+lift+kit+springs
Late to the game but got me a trx-4 sport and what can i say, it is really fun and challenging on a whole other level than to just go out and blast my 3s granite. Love the runtime i get on the stock brushed motor, way over an hour of constant driving with a 5500mah battery. I have been wondering how to get more articulation but as you explained it, it cannot be done without sacrificing center gravity, am i correct? Can you do this kit and add some brass gear to keep the cofg down low, or wont it help?
Ugh, it’s so irritating that Traxass wants so much for their stuff. They could have cut the cost if they made 2 different wheelbase kits and eliminated some of the additional parts you don’t need. I just installed it w/2.2s myself. Black of course lol, offsets and all the brass I could get my hands on plus lower frame weights. With all that and the wheel offsets it absolutely crawls better than stock. I just need to go brushless. The Savox servo is definitely in the way but after dealing with all the clearance issues I’ll be more than happy. Someone in Traxass engineering needs to step it up though. As a lift kit from the Manufacturer themselves, it’s a massive fail. And come on man, Use a decent servo supplier!! Mine crapped out after 10 packs or so OF NORMAL DRIVING!!! So’d my XMaxx Forget warranty, I don’t want the junk electronics replaced with the same new junk either. Waste of time wrenchin’.
Springs for the 90mm shocks are too short for these long GTS shocks. Use lower rate (softer) springs such as the 0.29 (white) for the LONG GTS shocks. (Traxxas 8153) The 8154, 0.39 rate, orange ones could be more suited for your build if you have a heavier body. (original spring rate is 0.47, Traxxas 8155.
Yes, most definitely doable. We've seen it happen to our Defender. It's got so much weights down low now that it will outperform most vehicles as it's hard to tip over now.
I don't have a good recommendation or part number yet. A lot of my Traxxas springs are for 90mm shocks. I used the stock springs from an HPI Venture since they are long and soft. They key is to use a spring that sags the truck through 30% of its travel when loaded. Then allow some adjustability firmer or softer from there.

Yeah, $175 for parts that probably cost $29 bucks to make in total.
I know!! This kit honestly shouldn’t cost anything over $90.00
Price is crazy on my scx10ii installed just 110mm shocks kings and took 10min lol plus if you want different color links just spray it lol not bashing on traxxas I did own a slash and loved it!
I’m Canadian and that lift kit is almost half the price of the machine. Ridiculous.
nice to see i'm not the only 1 running fox 20 gold
Thank you your the only person I’ve heard say the size of the original shocks. Good review 👍
Right on, you're welcome
I LIKE THE ORIGINAL SHOCKS(NOT LIFTKIT SHOCKS) SO IM GONNA KEEP THEM AND RUN THEM WITH MY NEW TRAX SET")") I WAS GONNA DO LIFTKIT BUT IDE DEFF GO 2.2S AND I DID THE MATH,,,AND ITS SOOOOOO MUCH $$$ AND SOOOO MICH TIME!NOT WORTH IT TO ME!
I just added this to my channel as it helped me a ton , Thank you Francis , my Trx 4 is actually pretty sweet now !
Can you do a video of how you fixed the issue of hitting the steering servo, That would be helpful to a lot of people. Thanks Ron
Ron Corris Jr Agree! Please 😍👆🏼
Well said
I love the kit was told I'd never get it to work on my redcat gen 8 well it's done and it's awesome
Great to hear!
I decided to do this, but i have a full interior. And to swap out to stainless screws.
Basically i built a new truck, LOL Even without the stainles.
I love those wheels on the Defender 110!
and thank you for immediately telling me that these are not in-fact long travels..
I put longer springs on mine, hoping I could tummy tuck and run longer arms. ..So I guess I'm still searching
funny thing is, I think I'll be running all my coil-overs at their lowest compression rate. (not looking for clearance, looking for articulation)
Maui brewing, good beer.
Put the lift kit in and add wheels weights and it should perform pretty good and some brass on the diffs
Trx-4 (Sport) Love it
Really enjoying your channel Francis...quick question on the long travel kit/servo issue.
Just get longer shocks. I went with 120mm. If I had to do it again I would use 110mm.
Damn son look how heavy it is, with the front tires looking deflated haha love it!
Using super-soft foams. Might need to stiffen those up. Or get dual-stage.
I just bought the dual stage for mine and a few different types of tires to try with my trx4 Defender. The Hyrax and the knockoffs...be cool to see A comparison video on foams and knock off tires...maybe you have i’ll have to look
Fantastic review,very very informative,thanks!
Much appreciated. We aim to help and save folks time and money.
If you're not using it as a lift kit, could you leave the original servo mount in to avoid any fouling snags?
Alot of your reviews are so informative , if I'm looking for straight Talk on the Good , bad your the main source I reference to, for someone who has been out of the hobby for years till just this year.
I have say I like your well rounded none preferential views on the products an even how you tell how a product can help you and its drawbacks...
Cheers 🇨🇦 keep up the Great ccontent ...
Ps , be great if you could include some more smaller scale content at times like 1/16 I believe
( wpl scale , Mn 90-99Defender / Toyota etc. )models as Most of your content is on 1/10 ... TY.
right on, really appreciate it. Getting better at it. So much to learn and share!
New fan, subscriber here, really appreciate your knowledgeable straightforwardness. Thanks!
I know I’m super late, but what weight oil did you use? I installed the lift and I’m trying to replicate your setups
- remove spacers
- white long travel springs
- and the oil
Im looking to lift my 79 bronco but here in Canada way to expensive for traxxas lift kit ! Was wandering if you could give me the lenght of the upgraded links ! ?
Thank you. You saved me a lot of money with this information.
Glad it helped!
Great review thank you for the info everything was on point it didnt take that long to install but still a good chunk of time and agreed any desire in crawling those springs and oil are trash
right on. glad to help
What wheels are those? The red looks sharp!
This is such a helpful channel thank you
Le kit long arms n'est pas fait pour le Bashing mais pour le mudding !
What springs do you recommend. I am having trouble finding just springs.
When u find the springs let me know I can't find anything
Hey guys, my friend recommended .39 spring rate and it’s amazing on the trx4 with the lift kit. Part number TRA8154. 10wt oil and these springs is a game changer
I love your channel! You're honest in your reviews. And your not a sellout to the company's. Thanks
honesty is the best policy!!
Hi sir so I was looking to get into the hobby or rc which would u recommend the redcat gen8 or the trx4 ?
Thank you for your reviews and more importantly, your honesty. I just got the TRX Bronco and want to upgrade to metal axle housings and brass portals. Is there a particular brand you recommend? Treal, or other?
Have you upgraded your servo yet
servo first homie
Im interested in the kit but I wont dump the coin due to I can make it happen already..
ps mine installs in minutes :-)
Good insight! Yeah, there's other more economical and perhaps better way to do this.
how much weight have you added to the front ? that tire squish!. I'm adding about 300gms in the front. did you add any to the rear?
another great in depth video. Thank you .
We want to help folks buy the right stuff and maximize fun.
I did this not too long ago. I took the shock spacers out ran 15wt oil and put some spacers on the servo mount and flipped a rod so it doesn't touch. What springs do you recommend for the shocks
Stephen Grinaker hey man you should post the fix somewhere! I would love to see how you did it!! Having issues with that myself
Great upgrades and fantastic review video my friend 👍😀👍
Thanks buddy. Very much appreciated.
RCReview your welcome my friend 😊😁
Quick question... I have just recently got the proline hyrax 4.75 for my Trx4 defender and they are hitting the body in the front when the suspension is fully pressed. Everything is stock, nothing changed and now when I check with the original wheels and tires even they are hitting the body.
I did change the shock oil but that should not cause the tires to hit the body. Please help and let me know where I’m going wrong.
If I need to lift my trx4 slightly, can't I just put 5 or 10 mm longer shocks on it,? I assume unless I go crazy the geometry won't change much.
12-13mph is very fast for a crawler. My crawler goes walking speed like 4mph.
That 12-13 mph speed is more for trail and light bashing. This vehicle has a big range since it has unlocking differentials that allow it to handle well at speed.
Ja Lee 4 mph is to fast for me, my is near 5kph with a 27t motor.
This is so funny how much you need to disassemble for shocks.
I just put a set of 110mm shocks and and dident need any long arms or a lower servo mount or any gear wires
which shocks?
@@joeronomo yeah did you figure it out???
@@grayhancock6953 yep. i had them on for about a month but went back to stock
@@joeronomo why did you go back to stock
@@joeronomo also could I run 2.2 tires if I did that
If I had two trx4s I would do one with a lift kit and make it more of my mudder rig, I wouldn't do it in it it was my only rig I like the lower look I think it looks more scale.
Agree. The lift kit is more for big tires and bashing. We did figure out how to make the lift kit a long travel kit with a few mods. ruclips.net/video/IYYeajpCig4/видео.html
Thank you sir, saved me lots of frustration for naught.. ;)
Glad it helped
What if you ran just the long shocks on a regular trx4 setup. But with the long shocks set to droop?
Turning a crawler into a monster I’m not so sure about. Upgrade a crawler for better crawling. My 2 cents but awesome video on a great truck
We have 4 TRX4s so one had to evolve in something a little different.
So from watching the channel and looking at all the TRX4 models , here’s what I’m going to try as regards suspension tuning ,
TRX4 Defender , yellow front springs , white rear springs , 20 weight shock oil for the rear shocks and 10 weight oil for the front shocks
TRX4 Sport , yellow front springs , white rear springs ,
10 weight front shock oil
20 weight rear shock oil
Does this seem correct RC Review ?
And would you advise getting yellow springs for the front and white for the rear with the lift kit to achieve more sag ??
Trying to get some feedback before purchasing the lift kit .... in red .... more money 🤦🏻♂️
Love the channel , would like to see more on the RC Review TRX 4 sport and what mods you’ve installed 💆🏻♂️
Correct. For the lift kit, we are using the soft springs that came with the Redcat Gen8. They are long enough.
And it looks like Traxxas just released a bunch of soft springs for the Long Travel Kit. www.amainhobbies.com/search?s=long+arm+lift+kit+springs
would it be better to just have more droop than get this lift ?
Where di you get those fender flares for the bronco , im looking for some for the 79 blazer
Still trying to find those softer springs, but no luck at all. Could you lead me in the right direction. Thanks a lot. Good video by the way
AMAINHOBBIES.COM sells the white springs for the long arm lift kit separately
Do you know if the brushless motors are interchangable with different models?
Late to the game but got me a trx-4 sport and what can i say, it is really fun and challenging on a whole other level than to just go out and blast my 3s granite. Love the runtime i get on the stock brushed motor, way over an hour of constant driving with a 5500mah battery. I have been wondering how to get more articulation but as you explained it, it cannot be done without sacrificing center gravity, am i correct? Can you do this kit and add some brass gear to keep the cofg down low, or wont it help?
Correct. Center of gravity is compromised for sure. Even when the vehicle is lowered with soft springs, it tips over easy.
Are you using a new spring with less pressure or the stock springs off the stock shocks?
Springs for the 90mm shocks are too short for these long GTS shocks. Use lower rate (softer) springs such as the 0.29 (white) for the LONG GTS shocks. (Traxxas 8153)
The 8154, 0.39 rate, orange ones could be more suited for your build if you have a heavier body. (original spring rate is 0.47, Traxxas 8155.
@@CSL33 i ordered them im super excited to get them installed
How did you resolve the issue with steering servo and front link interferences?
If you’re going to make the kit into a long travel kit, would you need to lower the steering servo?
yes, the long travel kit does that.
Do you think using some weights in the wheels and axles would counter balance enough the higher center of gravity (maybe it will be similar to Stock?)
Yes, most definitely doable. We've seen it happen to our Defender. It's got so much weights down low now that it will outperform most vehicles as it's hard to tip over now.
Thanks very informative vid.
You are welcome. Hope we steered you in the right direction.
What springs did you use? It would help if you tell people that instead of saying replace the springs! WFT?
I don't have a good recommendation or part number yet. A lot of my Traxxas springs are for 90mm shocks. I used the stock springs from an HPI Venture since they are long and soft.
They key is to use a spring that sags the truck through 30% of its travel when loaded. Then allow some adjustability firmer or softer from there.
Keep up the good work with this channel. Sub'd.
Thank you. We’re trying to improve in each video.
What are the specs of the springs that were replaced?
You saved me alot of money
That is our goal. Save you money so you can buy it on the really cool stuff.
