I flippin' love this truck! I been running mine all summer. I changed mine by removing the rack, added weights to the bottom, went with a brushless motor, and a better servo. It is so much fun!
That music you used for the night crawl was on point. A entry level High Trail. Can’t wait to see what Traxxas add to there line up next that’s going to get me in trouble if I buy it.✌🏽
I did see that the limited version is like a storm gray with neon green accents which does look good. And as far as a non licensed generic body, the sport is probably the nicest looking. Awesome video as always 👍
Always been a favorite of mine too, built out a TRX4 builders kit during Covid decked it out with everything they had available for it and after a few months sold it on eBay and here I am again watching “your” videos on it getting ready to get another one they certainly have come down in price a bit too which helps
I appreciate the energy you put into your running videos, they always look great & the chill mellow music fits perfect. I also enjoy the "Live commentary" for the conclusion. Keep it up man. Love you bye 🍻

This is a great deal for the price as I did build out a TRX4 sport w/ long arm kit in blue. And did a custom 69 blazer body in blue & white. For the getting a sport with long arm kit already installed is defiantly getting your money worth
Having begun this hobby in 2019 with a TRX4 Sport and then recently making a Chevy K10 High Trail my 6th Trail truck/crawler I laud Traxxas's decision to do this. 90+gm Injora brass portal covers massively add to lowering center of gravity and making any High Trail a Beast in anything short of a Pro crawler competition. And in my opinion every High Trail needs the accessory 'Rock' lights in the fender wells.
Over the high trail editions. Just give us the bodies complete with, inner skeleton, fenders “CLIPLESS”, and interiors. Shouldn’t be hard to do a lexan interior tub that mounts to the skeleton or the fenders. Oh and you can do clear windows you’ve done them… Broncos, k5 blazers, 4-tecs, just off memory. Just a little vent on this High Trail release. One more thought straight axle options we don’t have to buy from SSD? Great vid and review as usual “shirt tucker”
I love all your videos, Matt, and awesome job on this one. I'm a trx4 guy and have quite a few. I do have a lifted sport with no stock axles and a K10 High trail, and love trailing them, but I would love to get your opinion on how you would lower your center of gravity on any of the high trail versions without lowering them. There are so many videos out there and want to see what you think is too much or too little. 🤘🏼
Thx for good run video Matt! Traxxas probably released this high sport banking on increase brass portals, dif cover's etc being the clever bastards they are lol. Just when u think 2.2s were a thing of the past Traxxas recently makes them the hottest trend again. They do look more proportional w/ the humongous fender flares imo. I'm sure it won't take long Traxxas will offer a bunch of colors... It's what they do
I would like to see the move to clipless bodies accelerated for the whole Traxxas brand including revamping the entire current lineup (wishful thinking I'm sure). High Trails may not compete as well as the normal version but brass in the right places will make a big difference. I know it's all subjective but I prefer the High Trail look and since I'm not competitive I'm willing to lose some performance. 🤓
With the center of gravity of a skyscraper. Looks more toy grade than the other highlifts.its nothing in particular not a crawler not a scaler something in between. 🤷🏻♂️like the video matt!!
@@scalebuildersguild dont get me wrong. There are amazing products out there and brands for all tastes. this product… not my type. I like the effort you and josh put on all your videos and support on this amazing hobby.
center of gravity lower than the full feature high Trail, the truck sidehills and climbs great and if you ever drove it, you would know that. maybe contribute with something other than negativity without facts to even back you up. It’s an extremely capable rig and I’d love to buy one. now is the time with the discount and the free winch.
I like that they're doing more clipless bodies, even one as not scale as the sport. While the TQ is a much better feeling transmitter than some other RTR ones, it's really bad there isn't any steering EPA or even dual rate adjustment. But woah, is this the first high trail where tyres don't rub!? Shame any scale tyres still aren't gonna fit properly. I wish they made TRX-4 wider instead of taller, I feel like a stampede 4x4 could be made into a better crawler than the high trails
Dude I bought my Trx4 Defender about 5 years ago. Probably one of the first in Australia. There was nothing like it on the market. Loved locking and unlocking the diffs, portals were a game changer. I have since moved on in the hobby, full scale hardbody rigs are my thing, so there's no Trx4's in my fleet at the moment. But every time I get asked buy someone new to the hobby, what should I get. The answer is always a Trx4 sport.
Thank you very much for another highly enjoyable SBG Traxxas presentation. Even still with a well-known profile, truck looks good. Appreciate the creative marketing savvy of this particular brand. And this model too sure is a smart way they get into the hobby or to get reacquinted if you will. A thought came up, have you thought about making a YT 'shorts' version of these brand-focused videos? Just the driving section with those trademark SBG shots. And maybe in the future a factory visit is on the cards, because I liked the insight into how, for instance, the bodies are made. Perhaps too you and Traxxas can make a factory Scale Builders Guild edition of one of these High Trail Editions. As always, thank you.
The XL5-HV is pretty awesome for a stock E.S.C. and if you run it with the box stock settings, you have from 1% dragbreak up to 100% dragbreak. As your front Tires crest the Hill, just add a little break from the 1% up to the 100%. If you let all the way out of the Break, you will need to touch forward before getting back into the Break, or you will go into reverse and can possibly front flip 😉 Once you learn how to drive the XL5-HV in the stock settings, it becomes extremely awesome!
I just got the red one in this afternoon and the first thing I noticed was that it sounds exactly like my Redcat Gen 8 so that at first thats what I thought I was driving which not for nothing isn't a bad thing.
I just bought Sport #7 because I really like the Sport!!! I bought the red Sport Body last week, it showed up yesterday at my L.H.S.. Then Traxxas lowered the price tag on the high trail Tuesday morning, so after having a chat with the Shop owner. I decided to buy Sport #7. Got the launch edition with the grey and neon green accessories.
Sport models are awesome, definitely a go to for me, tons of options for upgrades and accessories, I just did a 400 servo with BEC on my Ultimate Hauler this morning and it's a really nice servo I'm very happy with that upgrade!! Great vid curious to see what you do next to the sport!!! 💯👍👍
I say it all the time about the axial scx6. I would give up the 2-speed transmission for the front dig the Scx10 has. With good throttle response you don't need a 2-speed.
What a beast! Nice truck too 😂 All jokes aside, would be cool to see a trx4 sport high trail KIT version aswell. I guess buying a clear sport body for this would be a 2nd best option
The Sport has always been my favorite of the two - I just don't need the bells and whistles (gimmicks?). I must admit, locking diffs are cool but I've done without them for this long? One of the better looking 'generic' bodies and the blue looks great! Always cool to have the extra accessories with the Sport. Never tried night crawling but dying to get some lights and give it a shot! 👍
The sport is awesome for sure. Never had one. But.. love the simple concept. Great body. But. I think..... I love the Ford the most hahahahaha. But. I'd buy this. Great video man. I think you and Josh need to an ultimate mud truck mayhem hahahaha
There are a lot of things that we should do, but right now I barely have time to eat dinner! So many new releases, I feel like I'm busier than before Colorado!

Awesome vid and loved the choice of music.. I think the High Trails are great for trailing ( and why I want one ) But the liftedness is less suited for full on rock climbing..
A beadlock wheel would be nice and wouldn't add to the price much at all. Also having a couple more color options like OD green or coyote brown would be nice. Other than that i love the sport. Great truck for the price and having the lift option is great as well.
Traxxas deal going on now trx4 sport high trail edition is $50 USD off so $380 USD plus free winch kit $100 USD value Total of $150usd in savings. Picked up the grey and green today!
@@scalebuildersguild it was just to good to pass on lol got it all installed put a 35 kg servo in it. Bought extensions for the servo got the servo I found out I didn't need the extensions. The cord is actually longer than the stock servo LOL. Now trying to figure out what ESC motor I want to put in it because it will be brushless censored. Just don't know if I want the fusion se 1800kv or fusion pro 2300 kv giving my son my redcat Marksman
Great video. Lots of good mod info too. What would be the next suggested crawler in their lineup that’s not so top heavy and more stable when crawling at steeper crawl attempts? Do the broncos do better than the pickup trucks? Thanks in advance for your time and reply.
I love my trx4 trucks and plan on picking up a high trail sport when it’s on sale. But my god why can’t they just use bead lock wheels and stop gluing the tires?!? The canyon trail tires work so well for rtr tires and I’d like to reuse them on metal bead locks without having to bake or boil or roast them with a heat gun
Bro, i'm a black man and i love the music by the video. Good job man its just right with the driving. And i,m gonna buy one, but in holland i must wait right now😅
Great video! I wish Axiel would offer a stripped down transmission for their SCX line. The dig function is super finicky, the extra weight, complexity, cost, and uselessness of the second speed in the transmission is a complete waste, not to mention it's a bitch to get working. This was a great video, thank you
Next monthly mayhem should be converting 2 crawlers into full drag trucks, using the stock chassis & rear axle. Everything else is on the table for change lol
The springs seem to be a little bit too stiff. I would suspect that is the case, in concert with the suspension geometry, lightweight chassis top-heavy body and 'bouncy' tires?
I have a TRX4 TRAXX which has the Sport body, comes with the same rack and plastic details, but also has clear windows, I wonder what they do differently in this case...
5:10 used to make screens for screen printing. There is most certainly an option to do this. Simply update the artwork to block those areas with emulsion and some new screens(which they have to remake at times anyways). Profit! Easy peasy.
@scalebuildersguild I hate to disagree with you, Matt. But I worked in the industry for about a decade. It wouldn't be too much. I promise you. I'm assuming that's just what they're told to tell you. Assuming that you have no experience and just buy that explanation. A flood coat(which sounds like their method) is seriously, only slightly less than expensive than the alternative. Take it or leave it bud. Not a big deal. Love your content. ❤️
That's what I mean by suggesting you don't understand the trade. One screen will do thousands and thousands of sheets. Literally PALLETS of materials. Hundreds of thousands of car bodys per screen. Depending on how big the sheets are. I think you're thinking about this backwards, sir. Scaling up operations makes things cheaper not more expensive.
@@MrSneakyGunz maybe I am, but the impression I got from you was it would cost more to do it the way you’re suggesting, even if it is only marginal. Did I misunderstand? I think that they’re doing very large sheets that would create dozens of bodies at once, and it’s cheaper for them to not have to worry about tolerances. You’re right I don’t know the business, but I’m still coming at it from a practical place.
Orange. The trx4 Tracks is available in orange. But I don't have use for the tracks. Maybe if I lived somewhere it snowed. Phoenix doesn't get much snow. By not much, I mean none.
I would love to see Traxxas design a new brushed ESC that has all the different tuning features of a hobbywing 1080 that would be nice the xl5 has all the programming features that a hobbywing 1060 has I believe it would be cool to see them design a new esc4 brushed motors that matches the hobbywing 1080 that would be so cool
You think Is a Great startimg point for s beginner or maybe the normale sport Is a Better startimg points i was thinking about getting the hightrail and the 1.9 wheels and the standard shoks so i have both the setups
Hell Yeah! That's another great review... I an not a 1/10 guy, I prefer cheaper 1/24 scales rigs, but that one has me thinking... lol... Keep up the awesome content. Thank you!
@@majikfreak I’m prettt knew to RC. But I’ve learned from mini crawlers that I likes to end up ripping out near most the stock components. So I got the trx4 kit so I could just start with more of what I want off the rip. Also buidling it gave me an appreciation for the engineering work that goes into these things.
I have removed the locking and unlocking diffs from all my Trx4’s except for my newest High Trail. It will be done as well soon enough. Thanks Matt Great video
I can’t decide, I’ve got a summit and love you can just hoon around on the street then click it into low gear lock the diffs and crawl, I’ve been wanting a more scale truck to do the same, so I’m thinking I’d like the 2 speed and lockable diffs, I’m guessing this wouldn’t be suitable for the road, is there a model with high lift with lockable diffs two speed that has the option to fit the light kit etc?
Are portals bolt-on for the AR45? Can't remember right now if those are the 10-3 or 10-2 axles. Also I don't know which is better. The run video or the jams.😊
I like the simpler Sport and could deal without the locking diffs but I do like the 2 speed, I put the 2 speed into my Traxx version and it’s great to have that higher speed. I think the lift and bigger tires look sick in the rolling shots
With the diffs full-time locked, can you turn without flipping, or is that how you do u-turns with this one - flip truck and then proceed in the direction you are now pointing? Not trolling, seriously asking.
I want a tactical body for the trxm. How are you. You look a little green around the gills. Maybe this one I'll get. I was thinking of lifting my 79 bronco.
@@scalebuildersguild Thank you so much. Something must be wrong with mine, since I have tested the ESC in all modes (crawler mode is 5 flashes) and it does not stop at all. The rub IS as you said, in total compression and if it is fully turned
This makes a great basher. Sure cant compete with 2.2 rigs of its class. Traxxas should make a class 1 size rig. There is a market for that. Im glad i donr have a single traxass vehicle. I dont support how they do business. Good video… if i got sent this fully decked out too. I enjoy and love your channel. Not traxxas
Geez you’re never satisfied Matt!. 😂 kidding, you’re right tan makes a better desert type of rig. Black would looks awesome too. Nicer wheels and rims would be my upgrades and of course some mods.
I guess electric real cars don't have gears mostly but I still like 2 speeds for control but I also haven't driven a high end price wise crawler/ trail truck.
I feel like no 2 speed and locking diffs misses the point of buying a TRX4. I don't want a TRX as a trail truck, I want to launch it off a 10 foot cliff and get some air time.
A couple questions, can you get a clipless body system for an older TRX4? If so, does Traxxas sell clear bodies for the other high trail model bodies yet?
I had the same question- the answer is yes, At least for the Sport, but you have to buy the new inner fenders, cross brackets, "hood Vents" and possibly the rear rack supports. I need to check on that one.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who drags a stick the entire run
I just wish they’d add a selectable 2wd! So you’d have rear wheel drive open, 4wd open, and 4wd locked !
Agreed, this is what I have thought from the beginning with the first TRX-4, this would be an additional fun feature to play with.
That would be nice
@@Krashcan totally. It’d be even more scale. I sort of live vicariously doing the smaller stuff.

Good job man its just right with
the driving. And i,m gonna buy one, but in holland i must wait right now😅
Thanks! Glad you like it and have fun with it!
I know this is an older video but I got to tell you this model with the Traxxas tracks talk about ground clearance!!
Great video! I wish Axiel would offer a stripped down transmission for their SCX line. The dig function is super finicky, the extra weight, complexity, cost, and uselessness of the second speed in the transmission is a complete waste, not to mention it's a bitch to get working. This was a great video, thank you
Thanks for watching!
I'm waiting for the high trail edition car hauler sport.
Next monthly mayhem should be converting 2 crawlers into full drag trucks, using the stock chassis & rear axle. Everything else is on the table for change lol
I think you should make it an Extra High Trail! 😂 lift it to the sky!!
😂
The springs seem to be a little bit too stiff. I would suspect that is the case, in concert with the suspension geometry, lightweight chassis top-heavy body and 'bouncy' tires?
I have a TRX4 TRAXX which has the Sport body, comes with the same rack and plastic details, but also has clear windows, I wonder what they do differently in this case...
Have you seen the Gray with Green colored one. That one looks awesome !!
It's very cool!
Hi thanks for the review! Did you ever end up doing more mods to this bad boy? I'm curious what all you would try and how much effect it would have!
No further mods, it’s quite fun just as it is!
5:10 used to make screens for screen printing. There is most certainly an option to do this. Simply update the artwork to block those areas with emulsion and some new screens(which they have to remake at times anyways). Profit! Easy peasy.
The size of the sheets they're running would still make it cost prohibitive. I'm sure they thought of it, but on a large scale, too expensive.
@@MrSneakyGunz slightly less expensive means a lot when it’s thousands of units. Thanks for watching!
Im going to be waiting for the Special Edition one thats grey.. looks way better
Traxxas is becoming the Jordan sneaker of RC. It’s baaaaaasically the same shoe, and yet somehow, people lineup to buy them.
I’m going to line up for more love TRX4.
😂 so true for me at least. I have a TRX4 Defender and Sport and TRX6
Super comme d'habitude merci 👌👍👌
Merci d'avoir regardé!
BRAINS!!!!!!! Great video!
Orange. The trx4 Tracks is available in orange. But I don't have use for the tracks. Maybe if I lived somewhere it snowed. Phoenix doesn't get much snow. By not much, I mean none.
Gonna swap the Sport Body on a TRX4 Blazer Chassis, then add a few bells and whistles.
You’re killing me and keep showing me these cars I’m running out of shelf. Space I set my limited 50. I’m already up to 60.
Sorry! Or not sorry?😂
Looks awesome with all the lights, was it hard to install them. Can u just plug em in or do u hafta solder them? Thanx
Plug and Play! No soldering required!
Definitely a good starter rig!
Looks great! But I already have 2 trx4 s…..
Hell Yeah! That's another great review... I an not a 1/10 guy, I prefer cheaper 1/24 scales rigs, but that one has me thinking... lol... Keep up the awesome content. Thank you!
If your into the 24ths and have never had a 10th. A trx4 sport kit is a good experience. It was for me at least.
@@JUSTHAVEFUNRC I had a 1/10 back in high school... little 1990, but it's been a while...
Thanks for watching!
I'd like to see something completely new from traxxas or axial, because Chinese brands keep making something fresh every few months
Fair enough!
I have removed the locking and unlocking diffs from all my Trx4’s except for my newest High Trail. It will be done as well soon enough. Thanks Matt
Great video
May I ask why?
I can’t decide, I’ve got a summit and love you can just hoon around on the street then click it into low gear lock the diffs and crawl, I’ve been wanting a more scale truck to do the same, so I’m thinking I’d like the 2 speed and lockable diffs, I’m guessing this wouldn’t be suitable for the road, is there a model with high lift with lockable diffs two speed that has the option to fit the light kit etc?
Yep, Blazer, F150 Ranger, Chevy K10.
@@scalebuildersguild oh nice 👍🏻 thanks I’ll have a look
@@scalebuildersguild just ordered the Chevy K10 💪🏻🙌🏻 upgrade and mods time 🤣 love this part almost as much as driving 🚗
Longer wheelbase Chevy pickup High Trail without the 2speed and locking diffs would be nice
Are portals bolt-on for the AR45? Can't remember right now if those are the 10-3 or 10-2 axles.
Also I don't know which is better. The run video or the jams.😊
These are 10III axles. Portals are not bolt-on, you need to buy a complete axle kit.
@@scalebuildersguild aye sir ty
I like the simpler Sport and could deal without the locking diffs but I do like the 2 speed, I put the 2 speed into my Traxx version and it’s great to have that higher speed.
I think the lift and bigger tires look sick in the rolling shots
They are overdoing it with this high trail thing. Defender next?
When can we get a non-portal axle TRX-4?
Don't hold your breath! 😂
That looks sick at night
With the diffs full-time locked, can you turn without flipping, or is that how you do u-turns with this one - flip truck and then proceed in the direction you are now pointing? Not trolling, seriously asking.
You can totally turn without flipping it. Just like any other trail truck on the market.
i’m only happy that it’s clipless
I want a tactical body for the trxm.
How are you. You look a little green around the gills.
Maybe this one I'll get. I was thinking of lifting my 79 bronco.
I look a little green around the gills? Maybe I just haven't seen any sunlight for a while because I've been so busy filming and editing 😂
@@scalebuildersguild well get to it then.
What is the idea behind all these high trail trucks, can someone explain?
I think the originals were to look like 70s and 80s long arm lift “monster” trucks. But now they’re just throwing it on everything.
Do the wheels rub against the body?
And when It crawls up, when leave the acelerator, does It stop without fall anything?
There’s no rub unless at full articulation. It does have a drag brake if you’re in the right mode on the ESC.
@@scalebuildersguild Thank you so much. Something must be wrong with mine, since I have tested the ESC in all modes (crawler mode is 5 flashes) and it does not stop at all. The rub IS as you said, in total compression and if it is fully turned
Awesome video !!
Glad you enjoyed it
This makes a great basher. Sure cant compete with 2.2 rigs of its class. Traxxas should make a class 1 size rig. There is a market for that. Im glad i donr have a single traxass vehicle. I dont support how they do business. Good video… if i got sent this fully decked out too. I enjoy and love your channel. Not traxxas
4 comments in the first 20 minutes.
It’s just a toy truck dude, no need to get your panties in such a wad.
Thanks for watching!
Can the hightrail sport wheelbase be extended? Thanks you
Traxxas allows for wheelbase extension, but it’s up to you to make new links.
Will the High Trail Blazer body fit?
I'll have to check. Tune into the livestream tonight and I'll try it.
@@scalebuildersguild will do. Thanks for the heads up
All these upgrades make me high...trail
Does it come with the rear rack and everything because I can’t find his truck online
Available online and in stores!
Geez you’re never satisfied Matt!. 😂 kidding, you’re right tan makes a better desert type of rig. Black would looks awesome too. Nicer wheels and rims would be my upgrades and of course some mods.
😂
Yes and yes! All you have to do is swap out the inner fender. Thanks for watching!
