      Michael Brissette It can be argued that the Pro X isn’t even that ‘good’ of a tablet. It’s app incompatibility is still a disadvantage for some “productivity” situations (think Photoshop or Lightroom), and Windows 10 in tablet mode has never been much more than the bare minimum (owned both a Pro 6 and an iPad Pro). At least the iPad Pro has a decent ecosystem and App Store, making it way more appealing and capable than the Pro X in my eyes. At the end of the day, it all comes down to each user’s definition of productivity though.

    • @michaelbrissette4487
      @michaelbrissette4487 4 года назад +12

      Bryant Rocha I completely agree with you, that’s why I added the parenthesis that the Pro 7 can be what the Pro X is, but can also be a fully fledged laptop to. Windows 10 just isn’t made for a tablet, and Pro X unfortunately proves it. Luckily, the Pro 7 works well as a laptop, but since I use my Pro 6 as my daily laptop AND tablet (I take my notes with a Pro 6, to me it does everything I want in a tablet), I don’t see the point in upgrading to the Pro 7 just for the USB C. I’ll probably wait until the Pro series makes drastic changes. In the meantime I’ll happily continue using my Pro 6, as it does everything I need for school and my lab work thanks to the notebook feature.

    • @MrImaWizard
      @MrImaWizard 5 лет назад +139

      @Timmy P everything about the X physically and visually is superior. The pen holder that charges, the smaller bezels, the bigger screen. They should have just made that the standard for both I dont understand it.

      @siarra123456789qwert 5 лет назад +43

      @Timmy P Personally I would rather the Pro X because of the extended battery life, sleeker look with the pen being in the keyboard, the ability for a Sim card and the expandable hard drive option if I want to do that later, but I also would rather not have to deal with an ARM processor

    • @MrImaWizard

      I can't understand on "flagship" phones either. What makes it more usable with less features? The removal of the removable battery (coincidence?) With great phones, you can charge it outside the phone and place a new one once it's discharged (very useful when using a machine heavily)

    Making the X the top tier premium option and it being a arm chip design is totally dumb and not logical. I prefer the form and look of the x but wouldn’t buy it or recommend it due to the arm system. Makes zero sense

    • @LogicalError007
      @LogicalError007 4 года назад +6

      All those improvement from 7 in X have a major hand in the arm processor. It gives a lot of space to do other stuff in a device. Developers will make the software compatible for arm processor. But that will take time. But it's a step in a good direction, more battery, better camera, better app management and easier software making process and easier updates.
      That's why Microsoft purchased GitHub and now supports open source development to have good relationship with all the developers.
      They sure learnt from their apps incompatibility for windows lumia which was otherwise a great device.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE my upgrade to the Pro X. Yes, the sound is far better. The screen size is noticeable in person. The pen feels great and the new storage and charging spot is a godsend. The eSIm is great but they don't have a lot of carriers that have good rates with the providers they app gives you. Thankfully, I can use a nano Sim and I got unlimited Data with my At&t Plan. You can use headphones with the USB-C adapter. M-2 SSD is becoming more available. You can find a few on eggheads so far. I have not had a problem yet with any software programs that I use.

    I have the Surface Pro 7, and really like the Type A USB - much more physically stable on docking stations. The X would be a good consumer machine, but the & with an i7 a portable extension of *anything* standard my workstation will do, and even some occasional SolidWorks! The Pro 7 is my choice, but the Pro X is an *amazing* form factor. (And the kickstand on the Pro 7 is probably as good as the X.)

    Bias Alert: I just bought a Surface Pro 7.
    Okay, so just wanted to comment on this because I think you are right. If you work mainly in cloud based programs then the Pro X is for you. I was using a Chromebook before because I thought the web options were going to be enough for me and they just werent.
    Therefore, I got the Surface Pro 7 because I need Windows because some software I use for work only runs on Windows 8 and up and the new stylus features coming out will really help streamline my workflow next year.
    That said, I feel like Pro X and Windows 10X are really going to be the first steps by microsoft to start competing against the chromebook segment and also attempt to change the market for ultraportables by creating truly spectacular 2-in-1s.

    Purchased an SPX (SQ1, 8 ram, 128 ssd) for only $623US and absolutely love it!
    1. Battery life is 50% longer than my SP7 (i7, 16 ram, 256 ssd). I get between 12-13 hours
    of continuous RUclips viewing (40% brightness, BlueTooth off, Wifi and Power Saver on).
    This is on par with my 15-inch 360x HP Spectre and its battery is twice as large.
    2. The screen is bigger and brighter. I can read/watch video in a dark room with 0% brightness.
    Larger screen is also great for reading/annotating PDFs.
    3. It is thinner/easier to hold, so it's much better for notetaking or watching videos on your lap
    than the SP7.
    4. Runs all my must-have work apps including Office 2019, statistical software, Zoom, Nebo,
    Snapdrop, ReadAloud, and PDF apps. The only "nice to have" apps I can't run so far are
    BatteryBar and Throttlestop (which has a 32-bit version)
    5. Charges much faster than my SP7
    6. Has a Sim Card slot
    7. Keyboard is 1/2 price on Amazon
    8. SP7 pen works on SPX
    Negatives are:
    1. No USB-A (dongle life)
    2. No Thunderbolt 3
    3. No microSD slot
    4. MS's 64-bit emulator greatly reduces battery life (which is why I haven't downloaded yet)
    5. Can't run all 35 miillion Windows apps/programs (for now)
    Finally, I don't edit videos, edit photos, or play games. The SPX was not designed for these hobbies, it was designed for white-collar professionals and traveling business folks.

    The Surface Pro 7 can do everything but not faster and not a bit well. While the Surface Pro X can’t do everything but does things well. Surface Pro X can not game because of the ARM taking over the whole Microsoft.

      You clearly don't own a SPX which is why you provided no facts to back up your statement. Well, I have both devices and the SPX is far better. I can run all my work apps (Office 2019, statistical software, Zoom, Nebo, PDF annotating apps, etc.), screen is bigger and brighter, build quality is better and thinner. Plus the battery life on the SPX is 50% longer (12-13 hours to 7-8 hours). SQ chipset is equal to an Intel 8th gen i5 processors, so it is powerful enough. And of course, there is LTE connectivity.
      As for apps/programs Windows has 35 million. Please tell me the percentage of apps/programs SPX can't run? Then tell me how many of these apps/programs don't have multiple or suitable replacements? Surface products are productivity devices for white-collar professional and mobile business folks. They are not for people into hobbies like video editing, photo editing, or gaming.

    Surface Pro 7 plus with LTE sim. Upgradable to Windows 11. Bought one for 499 in 2023.
    Yes it's old, but does everything I need.
    Windows Surface Pro pre X is the only tablet that offers a full desktop style OS.
    Light video/ photo editing. Internet everywhere.

    First of all as a new watcher I'm blown away by your review. Keep up the good work. I agree that the Pro X is a better machine if you don't have specific needs. I love the always connected LTE and it takes a surface go to do that otherwise.
    As far as the headphone jacks for me it is a no biggie. I have bluetooth and if you really need a headphone Jack there is a dongle for it.

    If you own a note 10+ is it necessary to get a laptop? Think about it you can connect a laptop, hard drive, SD card, integrated S-pen, Dex (which gives it a full laptop experience and it fits in your pocket with a screen with no bezel. I have a surface pro 6 and was going to upgrade until you started listing off the specs of the X and I said my phone does everything that it does plus phone calls. For everyone who says what about the screen size there's a solution; hold your screen closer to your face until it looks like a 75"

    Pro 7 all the way for me. Unless the Pro 8/New X comes out before Spring 21. I live on my pro 5. It's my daily work PC. Can't function without it. I manage my entire site of 500+ pcs from my surface, remoteing into secondary systems to perfom maintenance, so I am super interested in what the future holds. ARM was the killer for me with the X. Incompatibility would be brutal. Dell's "surface" line up is also catching ground, but Dell needs to work on their M.2 stability before I even think about getting one.
    Great video.

    The situation is a lot better now with software. Some smaller devs have ported their apps to AArch64; Microsoft has Edge Chromium, Teams and Office running as ARM native code; x86 64-bit translation is coming soon to Windows Insider builds and next year as a consumer release. If you bought a Pro X in late 2019, the software situation would have been a lot worse.

    A small thing, but the pro7 kickstand does go as far down as the pro X. I just got the Pro7 and it seems to go even a bit lower than my old pro4.

    I can always use Bluetooth audio devices in a device that doesn't have a headphone jack, but unless you get the proper adapter, you can't use a device that has a 3.5mm audio port with a device that doesn't have a headphone jack.
    I like options, so I'll choose a device that has the most options for what I use, and that includes one with a headphone jack.

    So, I'm torn. I've had a Surface Pro 3 for... well, you know how long. I would still be using it, but my cat knocked it down and cracked the screen, so it lost touchscreen capability. It's been a fantastic device all of this time. I've lost no usability in all these years, and if I get a new one, I expect to keep it just as long. I use it for school, mostly: searching the internet, reading articles, writing papers, note taking, but also Netflix from time to time. That's about it. I have a gaming laptop and a work desktop, so the Surface has always just been my portable device for basic use. I love the keyboard on the X for the pen (I lost mine ages ago), but I don't know if that limited OS is going to cause an issue. I started with the Surface RT and I regretted every second of it, so going back to a limited OS makes me squeamish. Can anyone help me make a final decision?

    Pretty sad most "reviewers" are completely ignoring the app limitations, Dave 2D mentioned some 64 bit apps are being emulated and run worse than poorly
    Because of the limitations I think the ProX should be half it's actual price

    Love the X but for its price tag, it's a shame Windows on ARM doesn't have a good ecosystem of apps/programs at this stage. Maybe in a few years I'd seriously consider this (or if Microsoft reduce the price), but until then I'll need to stick with the Intel device. Good comparison anyway.

    Hey, is there someone who could help me decide between the surface options? (Mainly the pro 7 and pro x, I would take other suggestions)
    I will mainly use it in school everyday to take notes, make small presentaions, etc. I'll also use it to make art (mostly as a hobby tho).
    The "notebook part" is more important to me than the "tablet part".
    I'd also like to get the best working/ fastes that is out at the moment.
    I need something that will last me long because it is a really big investment for me that I don't want to replace after a year.
    Can anybody help me? It would be much appreciated!! :)

      Honestly I would recommend you the Microsoft surface laptop 3. It's a little bit more expensive than the pro 7 but you get a bigger screen, Intel Iris graphics card, better keyboard, bigger trackpad and more premium design if you choose the metal version.
      With the surface laptop 3 you don't have to buy a keyboard because it's a laptop, so maybe that makes up for the price difference between the pro 7 and laptop 3.
      If you want to choose something in the surface pro lineup, I would recommend you the pro 7 because you get a 10th generation Intel processor over an ARM processor with the surface pro x. Which is not acceptable for a device that price like the pro x.
      By the way the Microsoft surface laptop 3 doesn't have a 360 degrees hinge, but it's compatible with the surface pen.

    Honestly.. I'm just looking at the pro 7 as a portable PC gaming option.idont want a gaming laptop.. too bulky. Having steam big picture auto-boot, With a Xbox controller/gyroscope controller. And steam cloud transferring my saves back and fourth from home and away from home, would be amazing!
    Only thing lacking in that is the graphics card. In which, I'm using it as a portable, I'm fine with cutting back in the graphics department.

    Hellooo, do you mind helping me? 😅. Both seem super good which is the reason why I’m having trouble choosing between the 2 😅. I am a student and I already have the surface laptop 3, I wanted to buy a tablet for mainly note taking and was wondering which one is more ideal. I’m a little tempted by the X because of the display but I’ve watched a few videos stating that the pro X can’t carry some apps and I’m still not sure what those apps are. Will those apps interfere with my note taking and uploading reports? And will it effect the running of the microsoft office series? I want to just use it as a tablet without the keyboard (I alr have the surface pen) Which one would you recommend? Great video btw ! 😄 ~

    The Pro X looks like it's the future. I've owned Surfaces since the RT and I think the all black metal is a throwback to it. I need to replace my Surface 3 and I'm considering the 6, 7, and X. What would u recommend for a budget conscious shopper?
