I agree with what he said at 2:30. I have a TCL qled 65inch tv(dolby vision, HDR10) it has been having prominent artefacts like grain more pronounced, Like putting on a blu ray disc 1080p it's a bit disturbing. It goes away though with any 4k content(only tried Netflix and amazon video 4k). Haven't tried 4k blu ray yet.
Great job on the video BTW always amazing content here. Keep up the good work!

I agree with MoeXilla especially since I am using a 106" screen... IMAX always kills it on my screen. My issue with IMAX enhanced and basically almost every soundtrack from every movie I have ever seen is they underutilize surround sound, it is like an afterthought for most movies, and I am 51 and and have easily seen over 4,000 movies and I can count on two hands the amount of movie soundtracks in surround sound that actually surprised me. It's so sad that most video games have better surround sound than any multi-million dollar movie ever made Hollywood should be ashamed of themselves.

That is not what he said, it keeps the movie the way it was ORIGINALLY intended as far as the sound. It brings up the quite scenes and brings down loud scenes so not to over power the room. As far as the picture it removes the grainy look you get on larger screens when they are played on larger screens without removing the way the movie was intended or how it was recorded.
As an example, take your phone screen, you can play back a file that is smaller BUT if you take that same file and play it on your tv it will look like crap, grainy, color all messed up etc… or take an old movie from the 70’s or 80’s and play it on a 4K it is grainy or blurry, IMAX enhanced helps fix this issues with larger screens.

In Picture Mode i have the IMAX Enhanced option and in Sound Mode i have Dolby Audio option.
    1. If I choose IMAX Enhanced will dts then work in tandem with Dolby Audio ?
    2. With IMAX selected will that then Enhance whatever I'm watching ? Example. I'm watching youtube with IMAX Enhanced selected.

Dolby Digital has a setting where you can compress the dynamic range to raise the lows and lower the highs or you can turn it off for if you want to listen at a lower volume. When Blu Ray first came out they had Dolby Digital True HD and DTS Master Audio which was lossless compression. Now with Dolby Atmos and DTS ? they have more channels. IMAX enhanced looks like it's only on streaming so you get less image with blu ray release where the image is cropped at the top and bottom.

Great video! I’m still bummed that they didn’t release either Infinity War or Endgame on Blu-ray with the complete IMAX ratio it was filmed in. They’ve done it with all of Chris Nolan’s movies, even with Tron: Legacy which is another Disney film. Spider-Man: Far From Home also doesn’t contain IMAX sequences on its 4K disc, however it appears you can see those on a specific steaming service for IMAX-certified TVs. I just don’t feel it’s fair to release it on ‘certified-IMAX products’ or streaming services instead of the actual discs where the best quality is always available.

Certainly been a weird rollout. My avr is imax enhanced. Tv is not. Which is fine. The audio for the few movies is a noticeable improvement. Only 8-9 movies are imax enhanced. I'm not sure why movies like aquaman, with many imax scenes and reference level audio and video, are not imax enhanced...partnerships with Dolby maybe..idk.

I just bought a top end OLED and streaming 4K content is great, I’ve been told by people that a 4K Blu-Ray disc and player is 10 times the quality? Is that true and what Blu-ray player would u suggest?

    • @Cblan1224
      @Cblan1224 3 года назад +1

@@downersup2 its much better. Panasonic ub820 is what I have. Its not cheap. I have a ps5 too, but your oled has Dolby vision, and you're definitely going to want a bluray player with Dolby vision. This narrows it down to 2 players under $500. The Sony x800m2 and the Panasonic ub820. The Panasonic is $350-400 US and the Sony is 250. The Panasonic has a processor that they are becoming famous for. In short, it makes HDR10 look its best.
For this reason alone it is worth it to me. You actually enter in the player that you have an Oled, and it will adjust HDR10 content for your screen. This is also true for non oleds.
Why is this important? Because movies are mastered to 4,000, and sometimes 10,000 nits of peak brightness, and my CX only does 650. The tv has a dynamic tonemapping option which tries to cram the 0-10,000 nits into 650, but its highly inaccurate. What the Panasonic does is restructure the film to max out at a certain level, and it does it perfectly, so then the oled only has to tonemap from 650 nits to 1000 nits instead of 10,000 or 4,000, resulting in the most accurate HDR10 picture money can buy.
If you have speakers, its not even close. Audio on 4k blurays is the main thing that separates it from streaming, because its really just not even close!
4k blurays use around 80-100mb per second and use 100gb discs. So your internet needs to be able to keep up. Netflix caps their content at 20-25mb/s and uses compressed audio formats.
There is no substitute for physical media. Well, there is something called a kaleidoscape where you can watch films at bluray quality, but it costs $4-5,000. The only streaming service with enough bandwidth to even come close is apple +, and then you have to factor in where you're watching it, because if its not on a dedicated streaming device like an apple 4k or Nvidia shield, then it will be limited to whatever bandwidth your tv can get, which many times is not enough. Webos is a good platform, but I use an apple tv 4k for streaming and a Panasonic ub820 for movies. I plan to get the apple tv 6 as soon as it comes out..
Why choose apple? Simple, I don't have cable, and apple has showtime, CBS all acess, hbomax in 4k Dolby vision while the Nvidia shield doesn't. The apple decodes its own audio and repackages it before sending it back out to the speakers, and it has things like epix and Hulu in 4k. It always seems to be a year or 2 ahead of Nvidia. When it comes to apps that finally start going with 4k HDR content, you can be confident that apple tv 4k will have them. The apple tv 6th generation will be out sometime soon, and the price of the 4k will drop.
Obviously, im a big believer in separate devices. I got an apple 4k first, then a bluray a few months later.
If you don't have a high quality audio setup, then the apple 4k is pretty close to bluray on video. Its not perfect, but you can follow hdtvtest on youtube. He did a good conparison video a few months ago on a 4k bluray vs 4k hdr streaming. So you'll see you have to be a videophile to tell the difference..the apple device is very good, and I think gen 6 will be great because this device is from 2017.
Keep in mind it sends out audio via pcm and some soundbars won't decode that. You can use Dolby digital 5.1 instead though.
I have a 7.2.4 atmos setup and I really enjoy lossless audio.
Bottom line...video is fairly close, if you have a good dedicated streaming device. Audio is not close at all.
I have personally owned and tested every device I've mentioned. Both bluray players, multiple streaming boxes, etc.
Let me know what you are using for your sound and I can help you further, and of course it really depends on your use-case. I'm a big streamer so the apple tv is a must. Even though webos is good on the CX, its limited and I didn't like using earc, so I've built a system where I don't have to use earc and plug everything into an AVR. Supposedly LG has improved earc compatibility since then. Sony was really the only brand that got it right from the start.
HDR is whats important here. Not so much 4k. I'm not sure about 10 times better. If you have a killer audio setup, then its much better, yes.
Do not settle for a 4k bluray player without Dolby vision. Dolby vision is the best thing going. I bought a streaming box just because apple has more apps with 4k+hdr then WebOS. It always seems to have the most updated versions of these apps, and the smart tvs and nvidia shield sometimes lag behind a while.
I would start with a streaming box and a tv calibration and go from there. Magnolia or best buy can calibrate your tv. It should have 200 hours before calibration. THAT was what made the biggest difference, and watch your tv in the dark. Tell them you don't need a night calibration and a day calibration, but you want SDR and HDR calibrated. (It has to be said. Sometimes they will take advantage of people and just calibrate SDR instead of using a program that calibrates the entire tv globally).
Made the biggest difference for me. When I got my CX..it wasn't until calibration that I found out my green pixel was way off..I mean way off. So calibration is something all of us videophiles will do as soon as we hit 200 hours.

@@Cblan1224 Holy cow, thank you so much! That was alot to soak in! When I bought my Sony A9G they told me there'd be no need for an external streaming device because the Sony processor in the Masters series OLEDs is better than any external device. I'm learning towards the Denon 9.2, 8K -AVRX3700H I still haven't listened to enough speakers in my price range ($3,000)/pair but I like Paradigm, Def Techs, B&Ws, and I've heard the Klipsch in that price range slam! I'm not an audiophile I wont be using them on pure direct mode with a record player, I like to bump some good ol' biggie or jam some led zeppelin when I'm in the mood LOL, but great home theater sound is my main objective. I have 2 subs, a martin Logan and a REL both over 10 years old but perform beautifully, I have an old but powerful, big mirage center and 2 old mirage fronts with shitty bookshelf energy speakers for rears. So now that you have an idea of what I'm working with, first course of business is to buy a 4K bluray, would there be any advantage to stepping up to the Panasonic DP-UB9000? Also your assertion regarding streaming is that using an external device for Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, HBOMAX are better quality than using the TVs Andriod operating system? I have gigabit internet and my Sony is hard lined directly from the modem/router to the TV with CAT-6 (not sure if that matters) do you think the Denon AVR I mentioned is overkill?, could I spend around $800 and find something that would do the job? Thank you again for all this information, I'm just getting back into the game and so much has changed!!! Based on What I'm hearing from CES I shoulda waited on buying the Sony Masters series OLED....but I suppose you could say that every year :)

@@downersup2 the A9G is the best 4k tv on the planet... at least until the a9J releases(83"!).
I am a gamer, so I went with a 77CX, I still wonder if I made the right choice but thats beside the point.
The ubp9000 is better built. Its a high quality device, and it will play more files than the ubp820. Meaning, it will play SACDs when the 820 will not. Its more of an all around device for those who want to use it for more than bluray. Like streaming audio files from USB. The 820 still covers all the main hifi audio files, the 9000 is just built in a better frame and will play more older devices that never really went mainstream. Unless you are an SACD collector, I would definitely go with the 820. The 9000 is a lot more, and its just not worth it.
My main use is home theater as well, but I do love music. However, I only use my setup for music every now and again, since I'm usually streaming music at work, or in my room where I have a couple powered monitors for playback and recording.
No, I do not think you'll be happy with an $800 avr. Let me put it this way. I bought an x2700 to start, swapped it for an x3700, and then swapped that for an x4700. The last one I did because I ended up with some extra money. The x3700 is a great avr, but you pay a premium for hdmi 2.1 and being 8k ready.
Let's be honest, unless you're a gamer, by the time you need hdmi 2.1, you'll be upgrading avrs again.
If we're talking big bucks, anthem has an avr coming out this month , but you could save some money going with an x3600 (2019 model but still has assignable amps for the mains and rear heights..also has preamp mode with very good preamp outputs even though they're unbalanced)
All denon and marantz products have great preamp in the last 2 years.
I'd seriously consider getting a 3600 and getting an amp for your mains. I have the 4700 and use all 11 processing channels. I don't like maxing out the avr, so I put a crown xls 2002 on my mains and holy hell these things are rocking. I now want to get an xls 1002 for my center(probably overkill).
Crown amps are pro audio amps for musicians and many people use them for home theater. They are cheaper and huge power because they aren't as clean as some of the home theater amps out there.home theater amps are very expensive.
So you could get a 3600 for around $800 actually, and throw the $400 at an amp for your mains.
My speakers are all of the modern klipsch RP line. I use (2) rp6000f mains, (1)rp404c, (4) rp400m, (4) rp500sa(elevation, wall mounted 2" below ceiling angled down) and (2) SVS pb2000 12" subs with the oled in the center.
We could talk about avrs, amps and speakers literally all day, but i mean, there's a lot you can do. All I can tell you is to do it right the first time. Packaging these things n up and returning them is a huge pain.
You can run your thoughts by me, message cblan1224 on reddit.
Envision what you want to end with, not what you want to start with.
I will tell you that if I had the choice to do again, I would be building my own speakers. After seeing what parts these speakers use in their crossovers and such. You can get an absolute audiophile front 3 for not much money. They sell kits with everything you need, instructions and even flat packs to build the cabinets. For the money I spent on my klipsch speakers I could've built a dream system. Thats not to say the klipsch speakers aren't great, but I would like to upgrade the crossover components. Its just something I don't want to mess with until I understand more about it. Anyway they sound amazing, im just in the "more..more...MORE!!" rabbit hole.
Sony indeed has a great OS. You don't "need" and apple tv 4k, but if you stream on a regular basis, im telling you to get one.
I am mostly on Android ecosystem, and I still returned the Nvidia shield to get the apple. It makes everything so easy, all subscriptions in the same place, right on the device, and it has the best audio and video quality out there. For some apps like hulu...you can only put so much lipstick on a pig, but its atmos and 5.1 is much less compressed than the devices that let the app choose the audio(everything else besides a roku and apple 4k tv, and I dont have experience with roku.)
Also, apple and denon will upscale 1080p to look very good. Nvidia shield does that too though.
A great thing about the 3700 and up is the audyssey multeq app, and the sub eq ht(measuring for 2 subs separately) it really makes things easy for integrating multiple subwoofers.
To be clear, im not saying the avrs don't have powerful internal amps. I'm saying that I max out the channels, and I got significant gain out of an external amp on my mains. I believe that would be the case even if I had a denon x8500(maybe, maybe not idk). My mains are rated at 125 continuous and 500 peak. I like the crown amps. The XLS drivecore 2. They aren't for everyone, but they have serious power. Depends on the speaker though. I have so much extra headroom that I'll never enter anything close to a range with distortion, and I think thats their approach. They also have DSP which helps the speakers follow an accurate frequency response.
I'm getting bass out of these 6.5" drivers that I've never heard before, and now I really want to amp the center.
Lol, its a process, so make sure you leave room for that process, because we are all on a never ending quest for a better system.
Do...your research!! Don't buy something overnight. Seriously consider what you want. Then run it by me on reddit. Lol. Ill tell you the pros and cons of the denon that the youtube reviewers will likely not.

I've always hated dolby. When I was younger I always noticed the sound quality between dolby and DTS and found dolby to be somewhat muffled (my opinion) .and then when you pop in a dts disk it sounds sooooo much better and spatial. I just hate that these studios chose to go with dolby on 90% on of the time on blu-ray disk.

But now ever since the 4k frenzy every single 4k film is atmos!. There is a reason why imax is exclusive, it's because imax sound format is dts based....go figure😏. At first, yes DTS was superior then dolby digital with it higher bit rates, but with the lossless formats, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and now the new object based formats, Dolby Atmos and DTS X, it's basically identical. I've personally haven't compared Atmos and DTS X because I don't have a receiver that supports those but I do have movies four movies on blu-ray they have an Atmos-true hd mix and DTS HD Master Audio mix. They're sound literally identical

So, let me get this straight: This guy thinks that Top Gun, a huge major motion picture that cost tens of millions of dollars, was shot on 16mm when in the footage he is referring to it says "TEST". Then he goes on to talk about how IMAX ruins films by stripping away all film grain. When you strip away film grain, you strip away picture information, so he is saying that they are ruining these films. Then he says that after they strip away all the film grain, they add fake film grain back in. WHY???? The film grain was already there. This is the dumbest thing I have heard in a while. "Let's take away something just to add a fake version of it back in." Film grain is there for a reason. It's supposed to be there. I am tired of these technical jackasses who think that they know what is best for film when in fact they are ruining these films. Any time I see "IMAX Enchanced", I stay far away from it. Stop screwing these films up and leave them alone. I also don't go see films in IMAX for this very reason. That and there are very few real IMAX theaters left. The guy being interviewed is a clown and we should treat him as such.

Tvs don't necessarily need to be imax enhanced. I have an LG CX. Its calibrated, so whatever is on screen is exactly what the creator intended.
Imax enhanced does make a difference for video quality, don't get me wrong.
The main difference is in the audio quality. I have a 7.2.4 setup with a denon x4700h, which is imax enhanced. Only a few movies have the certification. Bad boys for life, Jumanji the next level being the only 2 current, non-documentary films with it.
Imax enhanced is mostly about the sound. Sure its mastered a certain way and looks great on your display, but buying an imax enhanced TV isn't necessary, at all, unless you're one of those people that let's the AI tell you which picture mode is best.
Personally, I wish displays would stop trying to do so much. All these smart features and sound technologies...like anyone actually uses tv speakers anyway. I wish they had a version of each model that was just a display, with HDR format switching, of course.
Anyway, I've watched movies without imax enhanced(denon x3700h) and then with imax enhanced(denon x4700h). As far as the sound goes, the range is incredible. Had me giggling. I have 4 speakers up at the ceiling and 7 at ear level, and I love the way DTS uses directionally. Add imax's added dynamic range on top and you really have the audio experience of your dreams.
Of course, this requires a 4k bluray, and the disc, along with an imax enhanced AVR.
I just wish imax enhanced meant that there were more imax scenes(no letter boxes)
Some of the best visual movies, like aquaman, have a ton of imax scenes. So its full screen and the aspect ratio changes. The few imax enhanced movies out there are not full screen, and don't actually have many, if any, "imax shots"(fullscreen scenes without letterboxes)
