    A short and clear video.
    a question. I bought the camera 119 v2, there is in the menu - "time-lapse recording" What is this action? Is it associated with a parking mode?

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  3 года назад +1

      The dedicated Parking Mode menu option is all you need. The other Time Lapse Recording feature changes normal drive recordings and only useful for multi hour highway vacation video creation (in my opinion its useless).

    Can the camera be unplugged from power supply and used to record video and photos for a period of time?

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад +2

      The A119 & A119S have no internal battery to power the Dashcam, instead it uses two large capacitors to provide 4 seconds of power needed to save the last video clip if power is cut. If you plan to use these Dashcams while walking or biking connect it to a 5volt power bank using shorter USB cable.

  • @wrxTO

    Very concise and helpful video! Quick question. Do you know why my clock may not be keeping up to date? Does the camera have an internal battery just to keep the time accurate when the dashcam is not powered? Thanks!

      The RTC Battery must be charged(used) for 1-4 hours to hold clock time when disconnected from power for more than 24hrs. Rechargeable RTC Battery will fail to recharge if used continuously 4 years, similar to cellphone batteries recharged past their cycle-life.

    does VIOFO A119 has gps info embedded in the video or does it store separate gps log files??

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад +2

      Other Dashcams create separate GPS data files, but not VIOFO's. The GPS coordinate/speed data is hard coded into the MP4 unless you disable the setting in recent releases of Firmware. If you record a short 5 second clip, copy it to computer, open in HEX editor, you can see the text GPS numbers. To use the GPS data you must use a separate viewer/extractor for the Firmware version installed.

    Hi BC Hobbyist,
    I've had my A119 dash cam for about a year now. And just yesterday the screen is acting like a tv that goes out. When it boots up the screen is fine. Do you know whats's going on?
    Thanks. Josh

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад

      Usually it's caused by something simple. Do you own version 1 or 2? What Firmware is loaded? Did you try updating Firmware? Did you try removing A119 from GPS Module then powering from side port? Remove memory card then try powering up. I suspect update needed or backplate contact cleaning. Verify vehicle power adapter is working and cables ends secure. Don't have any other accessories draining power from A119.

    Whenever i feel like i want to shoot Video of both the Front doors these cameras have Option to Shoot outside at any time like a Vlogger and do not want to shoot video of (Front and inside the Rear Room) , then the SKYBLUESEA B2W & CAMSONIC ULTRA Z 2 & 3 Dash Cam Benefits if a person want to shoot a video outside the front doors sides Left & Right. Option like Rear View Mirror , would be easy to change the direction to record Multiple Angles like a Pro Photographer of both the Cams accordingly , option to Rotate , as they Rotates 180 degrees and covers the area least 140 or 160 degrees each Cam , like Rear view Mirror Angle . I love those Dash Cams .
    My suggestion to the Dash Cam Manufacturers .

    Hello,
    I am French and I don't understand very well some passage.
    Please, can you explain to me:
    => in "Loop recording" what is the difference between the "off" position and the "10 minutes" position?
    => in "Time lapse recording" what is the difference between the "off" position and the "10 minutes" position?
    => What is the difference between "loop recordind" and "time laps recording" ?
    Thank you !

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад +2

      Loop Recording best at 3min or 5min not 10min, each clip will record video for set time limit max is 4GB size, once memory card is full will record over oldest files. Time Lapse is only useful for multiple hour driving trips, always set OFF for normal video recording. Loop Recording is needed for Dashcams to record over oldest video clips once memory card is full, best set for 3 mins. Ignore Time Lapse and set to OFF, reduces long road trips to a few mins.

      The old A119 doesn't support "advanced buffered Parking Mode" features. When using the hardwire kit for Parking Mode power never enable the old "motion detection" feature. watch this video for full details ruclips.net/video/G9vRHZ3cAjc/видео.html

    confused as to the screen settings. 1080x 60p etc. Is it the second number that is most important? IE 2440x1440 60p etc for example. Is the first set important?. Also if the settings are highest will there ever be an issue with watching it on a computer. ? So what is the best overall setting?.

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  5 лет назад

      1440P is more important than 60fps, for best image quality use 1440P Resolution it's better than 1080P with A119 Dash Cam. 60 Frames per Second is only available at 1080P but I'd still suggest 1440P@30fps for higher detail and clarity. Some slower computers may stutter while displaying 60fps and will resize wider 1440P to fit on 1080P monitors. Many 1080P SmartTVs cannot display 1440P video.

    • @ggolds5
      @ggolds5 5 лет назад

      @@bchobbyist So Im almost there. So I you're saying to set it at 1440/30fps?. You say many smart TV's cant display the 1440. Should I just set it then at the 1440/30, or will my mac air and or smart TV have trouble with that?. I don't know enough about this stuff to feel confident about settings. What do you suggest?. Thank you for the quick response by the way.

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  5 лет назад +1

      The A119 produces better quality video at 1440/30fps. MacAir will work. Suggest you watch these two side by side comparisons to see the difference between 1080 vs 1440. One video was encoded at 1080 the other 1440 match RUclips setting when viewing. // ruclips.net/video/Uce4rzuFYY0/видео.html // ruclips.net/video/igRxL3oU_FQ/видео.html // Download A119 RAW 1440P clip = drive.google.com/open?id=1dhdobPB_g9GQtPyt4CZLCE0lKvtdPpkB

      These Viofo Dashcams always include a short mini-USB cable which can be connected to side power port for use indoors or detached from powered GPS mount. I detach mine in vehicle often to change Menu options using the extra USB cable temporally.

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад +2

      I always use my Tablet 5volt 2amp wall 120volt adapter to power the dashcams during videos. A computers USB port doesn't provide enough power. You could also use a small 5volt 1amp power-bank battery pack used to charge smart phones, just don't use power-banks while updating Firmware.

      Not a silly question at all.... no where can I find where it explains how to power up away from the vehicle INCLUDING THE VIDEO ABOVE... as far as instructions this is the worst piece I have ever purchased. There is NO customer support except some phone # where in the world who knows. This guy uses a Tablet 5volt 2amp wall 120volt adapter... what the heck is that????
      Certainly not for the average user as the instructions are for the people who live in that world....

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад

      Computer USB 2.0 ports only supply 5 volts at 0.5 amp, the USB 3.0 ports are 5 volts 1 amp. Not enough to power any dashcam. If you own an iPad or other Tablet device their wall chargers USB port is 5 volts and 2 to 3amps and works great. Many powerbars now include USB charging ports 1.5 to 2.4 amps. Buy a generic indoor smartphone/tablet USB charging adapter 1.5 to 3amp from any store for $10. google it.

    I have an issue with the date not saving after I set it, any advice on this?

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  4 года назад +1

      Always set the Time Zone to match your region. All Viofo dashcams use a tiny RTC soldered clock battery which requires charging every 14-21 days for 4 hours to maintain Date & Time. Suggest connecting A119 to indoor 5 volt phone charger for 1-4 hours and let it record the room view, after charge set the date again and press the correct button to save settings. Some older RTC batteries fail after 3 years, the charge trick above may revive it.

    Is it normal for the dash cam to feel really hot? I was installing it and within 30 minutes it felt really hot.

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад +2

      These Dashcams will get warm. Excessive heat on any device will reduce its life. In most of my videos I advise disabling many features to decrease heat. Most common causes for extra heat: recording in 2K or 60FPS, blocked air vents inside (see TIPs video), using 128GB microSD card, poor electrical connection, insufficient power (low volts or amps).

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  7 лет назад

      good question, FW 2.0 is stable, FW 2.01 has bugs, FW 2.02 is stable with adjusted Image Quality but slightly too much sharpening causing halo effect on fine lines (wires, text, trees...). Many owners don't notice.

      Hi BC Hobbyist. I just updated firmware to latest beta V3.1B as they improved parking mode. Any update about WDR? Did you test it?

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  7 лет назад

      If the new Parking Mode update has a sensitivity setting it would reduce battery drain. WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) is supposed to brighten dark areas such as driving on road with tall buildings or trees casting shadows while sky is over exposed and too bright should tone it down. My WDR test on Firmware 1.01 to 2.00 had no effect on or off. Will test the new 2.06 and Beta 3 soon.

    The one thing I wondered about you didn't cover... How you save a video after an incident. I know it probably does it if you have a G shock. But it's important to know otherwise

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад

      All dash cams record short 1-5min clips continuously as you drive until the memory card capacity is reached, then it loops over the oldest recorded clips. Any incident recorded a few days earlier should still be viewable when using 64GB card. Always carry two cards, swap them after an event is recorded to prevent over-writing. Remove card and view clips on computer as shown here: ruclips.net/video/G9vRHZ3cAjc/видео.html

    • @wiskyvet
      @wiskyvet 6 лет назад

      BTW, I just got this thing on Friday and it was crap. It worked for like 2 seconds and stopped. Never worked again. This is the 3rd one I've ordered recently that didn't work. Gonna give up on them because if I have to spend $300 to get one that works...I'll just wait until their prices come down.

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  6 лет назад

      either the supplier has damaged units or something is wrong on your end. don't try to power the dashcam from a computer USB port or vehicle built-in USB port. Use indoor 1.5 to 3 Amp indoor 5 volt adapter or supplied vehicle cig-lighter socket adapter, connect cable to USB port closest to blue LED. Test the A119 from side miniUSB power port without memory card to see if image is displayed.

    In none of the videos i found about this item, is told how to put it on yr window. So i did it myself and the result was not good. The screen points completly downwards so one cant see whats recording, and while recording the screen goes off. My conclusing is that this device is not suitable for all cars with different window dimensions.

      All Dashcams have screen saver setting, the video continuously records even with LCD blank since red LED light shines over REC button meaning its recording normally. I never look at the Dashcam the startup sound and beeps inform me all is working. Keep in mind the most advanced Dashcams have zero LCD screen must use smartphone APP.

    Leave speed on if you're a good driver that doesn't go over the speed limit. In case a cop stops you and gives you shit for speeding (especially if you're black in a poor city), you'll have the evidence to prove your innocence and his guilt.
