@@ForensicDetailing it's the least I can do for helping us all with your knowledge ,time and effort in giving us these videos over the years family 🔥😎👊🏾💨
Thank you
THANK YOU!
Thanks mate
Standing ovation for the amount of work gone into this. Hugely informative video John thank you! Also delighted Surfex won 😁🇬🇧
Absolutely agree. A lot of work on the testing phase and then, the man has to edit and assemble a video! Phew! 🥵
Well done, sir. Well done.👏👍
And, thank you.
Bilt hamber mostly win all of his tests
@@SALSimon89that's because they work the best
Jesus, this must've taken forever. I'd imagine you were dreaming about APC's for weeks.
Fair play. Great content.
Wow, the attention to detail in this review is second to none 💥 Just love all the hard work, fairness, care and attention you put into these mega tests Jon - amazing! So versatile these APC’s and can even handle a greasy mullet 🤣 I’m loving the BHSHD at 1:10 and 1:100 - my favourite 🤩
I will call this THE greatest detailing video on RUclips, period!
Never used anything other than Surfex HD in the short time I've been a weekend warrior, and that's all down to your earlier videos Jon. So pleased it came out top. Great job, thanks Jon.
Thanks for including a polycarb test John, very important for motorbikes with screens
I wish I had 1 hour to watch this video, that's asking bit much from your viewers but I appreciate your effort.
I’ve been waiting for this and it’s finally here! Brilliant and in depth video as always John.
Your dedication to the science of detailing is 2nd to none. This info is worth being paid for! Thank you for your hard work 💎
Surfex HD winning the test….we all saw it coming ! You were banging its drum years ago and despite the industry hurling what it can at it Surfex comes out on top still….I love the whole Autoglanz range so seeing it 2nd was great. Huge respect for the time, effort and care to make over an hour for us to watch. Top job !
I've got 5L Surfex HD will last me many many years! 👍 Great work with the reviews John!
Thanks for taking the time to do this John :-). I've been using Surfex HD for over 15 years and it never lets me down. A superb product and a worthy winner.
I wasn’t surprised, I have been hooked on BH products since I started detailing. Non detailing use which is absolutely brilliant, I have a gas over glass hob in the kitchen, which is a nightmare to get smear free, a 1% surfex mix, fine spray over the hob and wiped off leaves it gleaming and grease free, if 1% can do that on a cooking hob. It shows it can handle anything
Totally agree. It's superb everywhere. 1 to 5 is for outside of the car, tires, engine bay, bicycles.
1 to 50ish for kitchen, bathroom, etc.
Flash and Method don't get a look in anymore.
1l lasts me an eternity, so if I use a bit too much, I simply don't care cos it's cheap.
Just watched this. What an effort so it earned a comment to say thanks! Still some of the best comparisons on this site and help me choose products every time. Awesome effort.
Glad it was helpful thanks mate
LOVE THE MEGA TESTS JON KEEP THEM COMING!!! THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!
Great job, Jon! Massive respect for all the work you put in to give these results! I find Optimum No Rinse to be an effective and cheap light cleaner for all interior surfaces, especially glass. Just clean with wet microfiber towel and wipe dry.
What a mega review, must have taken you a very long time. I'm not surprised by the winner Bilt Hamber seem to make some really good products. Thanks for the video, look forward to the next one.
The problem with your scoring is, if I just use tap water and sell it cheap, make safe on leather/metal/plastic then it's going to gain a lot of marks. CarChem is basically useless, might as well be tap water, but it scored more marks than a product that IS good at cleaning.
John this is amazing work hats off to you this is why your no.1 for all things detailing
detailing at the best. have no words. you rock!
Love green star for exterior and pol star for interior
Fantastic analytical approach and really appreciate the time spent and thoroughness - well done John
Thanks for taking the time to test all these John
We need your thoughts on Labocosmetica next ;)
Absolutely amazing work, your my go to man when I look for a review on any product. Best on RUclips. Big fan of all koch chemie and Bilt hamber products. Thank you for your hard work!
Wow. That was a lot of work. Great job Jon!
Hi Jon I like Purple power, Extra Tough and 3D interior cleaner. Now the first two are APC’s👍
In the States, I use 'Super Clean" degreaser or APC. It cost $22.00 (US) for 2.5 gallons (320 oz) or 19 liters. It is available at most US retailers, no need to order online. It can be diluted 4:1 for tires, engines or other exterior surfaces. And 10:1 for interiors, plus has many uses around the house. You get this Most Bang for the Buck, for this product. Jon, thanks for your time & effort on producing these videos.
I think super clean may not rank well in this test as it's quite harsh.
It's SDS says it has a pH of 12.5-13.8, and causes skin, eye, and inhalation irritation.
And Super Clean says do not use on: aluminum, prolonged contact w/ paint, prolonged contact w/ glass.
@@themikeroberts Michael thanks for your comment. I am a car enthusiast a non professional, I like to use products that are simple to use and may have multiple functions. I use the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid) plus it is easily available at a retail store. I am NOT saying this product is superior to others, but works for me.
Please add ADBL to your tests. Very cheap with good to great results!
Second this John. Apparently ABDL APC is very good.
I'm really really glad to see you agreed with what I mentioned in the last video about the wording and titling being an important factor to consider (All purpose cleaner vs multi surface cleaner) and the overall implications on whether or how a product should be judged based on what it claims to do.
I believe that you hit the nail on the head here exactly! By just looking at the problem from a different angle it seems sorta brilliant, and judging based on the clarity and claims of the instructions themselves is the perfect way to do it.
Amazing job here on the video Jon. It stands in great service to the detailing community and we all owe you our thanks.
Such a decent in-depth review all from a nice user perspective covering all uses. The time involved was worthy of thanks John, impressive. Now if you would strip down and do costings on those over expensive DA polishers and show a cost/value build strip downs to prove that they are ripping us off with the component/rrp cost.
Noticed the same thing with Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner on white leather seats. It makes leather much more white even when dilutet 1 to 10. Allso if it spills to leather and sits there for a while it leave those white spots bit more like bleach. Dont know how safe it is to leather after all. Thanks for very informative video!
yes, and overspray is prone to leaving more residue. Its very foamy product, but it also contains things like potassium hydroxide and sodium silicates (IIRC) which are powerfull cleaners due to a mild (desirable) corrosive effect. But these can leave white residue if not properly rinsed. I used to love Megs APC still like it for fabrics funny enough. But the UK and Germany in my opinion have better engineered surfactant blends with a strong concentration of safer surfactant choices that are typically more expensive. American laws on chemicals are more relaxed than the UK and Germany (EU). Thats why I sometimes say American Soaps are not great compared to European or UK. Its usually down to the additional of powerfull cheap caustic additives (ok for pro use not so great for continual use on cars by guys at home)
@@ForensicDetailing Thanks for information, that explains alot. I will allso continue to use Megs occasionally for hard stains in fabrics because of it's great cleaning potential, but goint to replace it for more delicated surfaces.
Man the dedication this man has is unbelievable. You Sir are awesome!! Great video.
Well done on the test 👍 very thorough.
Best APC I've used it's a trade product and it's from Auto Rae Chem and it's A10-1 and you can use that on anything and it's a very good cleaner on tyres, interior, upholstery and leather. Can also use it as a wheel cleaner & Pre wash. Really good stuff £58 for 25L 👍 I like products that do the job first time of asking, to save time. And A10-1 ✔️ the boxes
Hi John.
Maybe the question isn’t related to the video but I still think it’s a interesting question that I’ve been tormenting myself with while on holidays. I find myself wanting to clean the car while away but really don’t have access to proper equipment. No power washer no snow foam
Just a hose and a bucket.
A video or even a reply on the matter would be interesting.
Maybe I haven’t asked the question properly but I hope you get what I mean.
Cheers John from a sunny Wexford in the Republic of Ireland ✌️
Easy. ONR (or similarly equivalent rinseless wash).
Look into rinseless wash products, my d00d
@@SE43 interesting I watched the video on ONR yesterday. I thought it was great but unfortunately it’s not available in Ireland and would have to buy it on Amazon. At least I know for next year
@@NipponStiqqyPaint interesting I watched the video on ONR yesterday. I thought it was great but unfortunately it’s not available in Ireland and would have to buy it on Amazon. At least I know for next year
yer I think and ONR or mackees wash is the way to go mate.
Meguiars is great, I use it. Be very careful not to mix to strong as it will residue pretty bad. It will stain leather if to strong and will also stain porous plastic.
is it good if it can do that?
Just started watching, has to be Surfex surely?
yes if Bilt Hamber is in the test, it will win, no matter how good the other brands are,
Bro what would we do without Johnny boy ? ❤
First class, in depth review. 👏
Thanks Jon, that was a cracking test!
thank you so much roger appreciate it
Well that is a surprise . AG Infinite did not work for me in any kind of dilution I ended up spraying it neat on my tyres just to get rid of it .
John this is a great review and helped me have the confidence to keep using my products. Brilliant work.
I like how you try your best sticking to a consistent scientific method. Hypothesize, experiment, control variables to the best of your knowledge and determine unknown variables by tweaking known ones. Also like that you did virtually every material to be found in a car. No one puts manufacturers claims to test the way you do John!!!
#3 it is. I can't find #1 or #2 in the US in the smaller bottle. The larger one is more than I would use in 100 years.
I knew the bilt hamber would get into the top 3
John, what's your take on using household APCs? I would love to see you test a supermarket household APC against the winner of this.
not massivly into using household stuff mate.
tip top as usual - well done - very useful
what a comprehensive review, very well-designed tests on par with laboratory tests cuts through the marketing BS the only channel for car cleaning the rest are just poor imitations thumbs up 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Should have got a hold of some Optimum Power Clean! Stuff works pretty damn good
I recently picked up some products from slims and the koch was on offer so i grabbed a bottle, mixed it at 1/2 a ltr in to a 5ltr can & topped up with water.
I cant fault it yes not the best degreaser at that concentration but on door shuts leather very pleased with it though some discolouration of black plastic seat backs if left on for a minute 🤦♂️ ( phone call ) removed with a trim sheen product,
Overall though pretty decent results
I find APC so so cheap. And then you dilute upto 100/200 times . It’s so cheap one not to worry about . I’m happy Surfex BH. Thanks videos on APC. Would never have heard of BH before watching your videos
Love your videos! Thank you for all the obvious work and care that goes into them. For cost, it might be useful to compare cost per liter of a specific use mixture. IOW, cost to mix up a liter of wheel cleaner, liter of interior cleaner, etc. I think that may provide a better direct comparison of value that combines price and concentration in one metric.
Thanks for the video!!!
Sometimes I think plain old water would come out well in these tests, no residue, low cost, infinite dilution, safe on all surfaces. I think it would come at least mid table. ;)
Autosmart , bilthamber and koch chemie make amazing products. trade rated gimmick free branding and packaging.
Bilt Hamber allllllllll the wayyyyyyy
I just ordered a 25 liter container of surfed hd for $140 usd from clean garage which is a awesome deal since 5 liters is usually just under 50 shipped. I’m replacing about 5 products with this stuff after using it a lot and loving it especially the vary mild smell compared to most other cleaners.
was it on sale? lol thats a steal
Hi John so pleased to see surfex HD the winner just got my first bottle 3 days ago so many reviews on this product saying how good it is so I thought see what John thinks of it so on your review I got some & love done my e60 wheels last night & you really don't need wheel cleaner if you use surfex neat wheels came up the cleanest every just useing surfex hd so in my opinion it's a winner of a APC
Just be careful with it near the brake callipers - it can strip the lube they put on the pads to stop them rattling in the calliper. :-)
@@D992 thanks for that John I'll cover calipers in future
Great test !! If you take the price out of the equation, which one comes on top?
Bit dissapointed in Green Star, always worked well for me, concentration matters tho.
Bill Hamber really hard to beat on price and quality/results
Awesome….cheers Jon👌🏻
This was fantastic, thank you very much! 👍🏼👍🏼
Jon, i use autofoam diluted heavily for an apc works great!
Surfex is best. I new it 😎
But i noticed, that i must be really careful and don't make contact with glass.
Its pain in the ass to remove residue from it.
Do you have similar experience??
Not noticed this my friend
Jon is autobrite direct in this test?
Amazing review, I have never seen something so detailed. Just one question: what is the dilution ratio for the PH test?
if your going to measure PH its best to do it neat. PH is meaningless though people do not understand it. PH12 could be milder and less caustic than PH7 for example. Its more about chemical function. PH at best is a finger in the wind.
Thanks, my question was because for example the PH of Koch Chemie GS is advertiesed as 12.5 and you measured it 10, so I guess it was diluted.
As an all rounder, BH is unbeatable.
As a straight-up degreaser, Screwfix's No Nonsense Degreaser is superb for about £10. Use it for the dirtiest bits of the engine bay and my bicycle drivetrain. Way more powerful than BH, but it's use case scenario is much more limited.
We could see the winner long before John moved the camera🙂
Gosto muito dos testes. Muito obrigado!
Thx u sir
Ultracoat APC+ is the best
This test is epic
is Super Clean not available in the UK? in the US, its among the most widely available and economical degreasers on the market. Also, Simple Green APC is pretty common as well.
As you know, it is the most reasonable priced APC that I'm aware of. I buy 2.5 gallons for about $22. Has multi-uses, I even use it around the house.
Sounds good for USA guys
@@ForensicDetailing whenever you want atomic start a Forensic Detailing USA Channel Jon, let me know. It'll most likely end up being like Top Gear USA, maybe half as good as the Brit version, but I'm game
Thanks to you, I`ve been using Surfex HD for years now. Love it.
Surfed HD is currently $58 per 5 Liters on amazon 😂
USA has to pay loads for it :(
@@ForensicDetailing Yeah tell me about it.
Jon what do you mean by wetting out a surface?
Surfactants wet out by have very low surface tension. So put a drop of a surfactant on a panel and it spreads more than a drop of water for example which has higher surface tension. So good surfactants wet out a surface well.. poor ones can have high surface tension and roll off more
@@ForensicDetailing i see, ive used bilt hamber at your suggestion for a pre wash and it stripped all the road film off.
At work (a motorcycle main dealer) I'm fond of using G101, but, I am well aware of its pitfalls (as some colleagues have ruined anodised or polycarb parts on our demo fleet of bikes), I'm also aware of its strengths and use it quite a bit for cleaning up oil & fuel spills in our customer parking. All important when dealing with two wheels. Gloves are needed at high concentrations though 😳😬
After finding your channel I bought Surfex HD and it is fantastic for back at home. Now to convince the bosses!!
Although G101 is way cheaper from our AutoSmart guy...£20-25 I think.
surfex is 20 quid for 5 litres and can be diluted down more than AS
@@ForensicDetailing Oh for sure, forgive me, I phrased that last sentence badly. It's meant to be read as "our G101 price is way cheaper than your test price". I got an exact price today also: £16.50 for 5L. Still gonna harrass the boss into getting some Surfex 👍
Autoglanz have been giving sediments in the bottles ,but works well
Outstanding!
I have a 5l container of surfex and there is far more in depth information than on the smaller bottles
would also be great to see what you think of 'dawn dish soap' as alot of people are using this as an APC
How about a price comparison for the amount of product needed to achieve the same results? Not just APC but other stuff. How good is a cheap cost product if you need twice as much concentration to get as good a result as a product that "seems" slightly more expensive?
can get a bit complicated but if you give a set of marks for highest usable concentrations you sort of are factoring that in.
Holy crap, John! How long do these videos take to film?? Crazy dedication. Have you got a video planned on how to keep your car clean if you live in a hosepipe ban area?
Waterless wash
@@richlee509 rinseless wash u mean.
You must try Bio-circle CB 100, that shit is amazing, non toxic, non flammable, removes grease and any dirt with ease. Bought it in a local hardware store in Sweden for about 23$ 0.5 liter. Atleast try 1 bottle, you won't be dissapointed.
Hi John,
Any chance you reviewing Aenso products?
No plans to m8 but that can change
I've used meguiars APC on tons of interior and exterior surfaces. I've used it tons without gloves. It works great for tires and wheel wells. I've used it on siding for the house and to clean off my mowers and tractors. Works great!
Yer it's good problem is they all work. But I think price and performance is needed to win these tests megs is expensive in UK.
@@ForensicDetailing I bought a gallon yesterday in US for $23. One gallon makes several gallons for me. Thanks for the videos! Keep up the good work.
Awesome showdown. Which would you advise between Verso, Multistar and Valet Pro as a regular use pleasant smelling apc? I only miss out the mighty Surfex as I've heard it doesn't smell too great?
I remember m8. But yer surfex has no scent.
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 Regulation 6.
Maybe a quick 2 minute vid on the products that have online MSDS or COSHH.
Great video great work. I wish optimum power clean was in here, considering that. Currently have MutliX but yeah was looking for a more safer (says can't use metal). Tickles me to... point of it is for my engine bay cleaning
The question is the effect on coating, paint, being the strongest dose not mean it's the safest to use.
Great VID!
Green Star or Multi X ?
see results section mate
Well-done that man! Fantastic tests, brilliantly put together and narrated. Nice to see you doing the long form stuff dude, it's what you are brilliant at.
Hi , in Romania i use koch chemie who's very good for me specially :) in combination with a steamer very good for detailing :D
Carpro spelling the product wrong - not the only CarPro label to do so Jon - something about the Korean brands. Have you read the TAC System labels…? They’re hilarious ! 🤣 (e.g. “store product upright or it might lick out”)🤣
My only critique is your criteria for dilution. It seems like you took the manufacturer's word for it. But no way of knowing if product A at 10:1 did better than product B at 1:5. And it seems like it was heavily weighted in your scoring criteria. Good work nonetheless, good to have a general idea of which products are best at what.
Detailed (DYSWIDT) review as ever Jon, would the rankings have changed much without the weighting for price and dilution I wonder? 🤷
Amazing review, amazing products all round, but I'm sad / I just bought carpro multi x.. 🤣
Thank you Jon, such a detailed and thorough test, much better than anyone else on YT.
No surprised BH won, all of their products are very good if not the absolute best, at the same time being amazingly cheap.
I used Bilt inside the car but I didn’t like how it’s working, maybe my rate dilutions isn’t ok. The car was very dirty. I consider the nextzett w99 more efficient.
