Quick question to everyone that disagree. What are the kids really missing out of their lives? And growth in development being 13 or 14 and under without a social media account. It's pretty self-explanatory, social media account. It's just literally virtual socializing. Kids under 13 do not need that in their lives. They need their parents' grooming. They get enough of socializing at school.

Any parent that allows their kids to use social media will not be able to grasp your point. This won't impact good parents as they already restrict social media from their kids. It's the other parents whose kids are feral that this law is directed. If the rest of us didn't end up eventually having to deal with these kids I wouldn't care but we need to work on raising better kids.

Not what's at issue here. Government has no right to do this. Are you the parent or is government?

That's hilarious because during the pandemic Republicans were besides themselves about schools being closed down and children not socializing with each other.
I don't know if you have seen any children lately but they don't even interact with each other even if they are in the same room with each other.
Instead they are staring at the screens of the phones while typing away.

If parents would actually parent nothing like this would be necessary. Most people nowadays put a screen in front of the kid as soon as they're old enough too sit up.

Parents may still allow their kids to use their accounts if they should so choose. Children on social media are targeted by nefarious individuals. If we lived in a society based on moral, Christian values as the United States was founded -- a ban wouldn't be necessary. But we live in an immoral world. And children are in danger, as a result.

You are free to allow your kids to use your social media account if you want them to consume the trash that's on there -- and harming them. Go for it. The books you don't want, "banned" from school curriculum are available at the public library, as well. As such, you are FREE to parent as you choose.

You are free to parent as you choose. You sound like a criminal accusing the government of telling him/her how to live. That'd be a similar argument... Let your kid use *your* social media account if you want them exposed to the trash on there -- and to the predators. What you want is for the INTERNET to raise your kids, not the governor. I get it. You can still do that. Just let your kids use your account.

  • @hardren101

Overreaching and ttl waste of time. Kids are VERY resourceful, a 10yo that wants a social media account is gonna get one. The social media platform will simply inquire if the user is over 14, user clicks yes, and....This is a responsibility that falls to the parent/guardian....Depending on the household & number of children in the home, this can be a challenge.

It should be banned from radio and public gatherings where minors are present, such as sporting events and schools, etc. Music about murder, selling drugs and all around bad messages needs to be banned period. It is an obvious fact that every country that allows this terrible music has high crime rates....

Instead of giving kids a phone or tablet at a young age, give them a real learning and entertainment book, have kids participate in meaningful activities; in person socializing and creative play, outdoor recreation and sports activities, family activities and travel that don't involve internet screen time. No wonder kids are psychologically and physically unhealthy. They become addicted to social media and mindless scrolling just like their parents. Good bill. Should have left it at 16. 👏
