That being said I have also heard about mexicans living in the US for many MANY years and still don't speak english. That is NOT acceptable.
It's a grey area to be sure. I started learning spainsh 5 months ago, before that I'd say everyone should integrate and learn english. I changed my mind since because learning another language is very hard. That said there are people who refuse to adapt to thier new country, I wouldn't expect to move to another country without learning its customs and language.
I was working with some cubans, one was here 17 years and didn't know much english. After 17 years I feel like he shouldn't have a problem being 100% fluent. When I started learning spainsh I did notice that the cubans seemed to start learning more english. The other American born workers there had nothing to do with them until I started interacting with them. I think a lot of them feel alienated and stick to their language/own people because of it. I know when I speak Spanish I get praised by spanish speakers and it encourages me to keep learning even when I have days I feel like I'm not getting anywhere in the language.

Everything Trump said wasn't wrong. He was 100% correct. The universal language in the US is English, so if you are giving a speech somewhere in a setting where most people there come from different parts of the world and have different dialects they use in THEIR country, the only way EVERYONE can understand the person giving the speech is by speaking a UNIVERSAL language that most people will or SHOULD understand if they live in a country where ENGLISH is the universal language. @@AngelDahlidrex As an english speaker, I'm going to force Mexico to speak english because I'm an entitled immigrant 🗣️
I'm Latin American I'm living in America (california) I'm working hard to speak in English for two reasons, first it's a way to respect this country and second, English give me more opportunities to improve my salary and position in my work. So I recommend to immigrants to learn English. And if you can learn more languages i'd be better. For example I'm studying French too.
That's good to learn more language knowledge is always good
First of all America doesn't have a official Language
Second you can go to many places in big cities where no one speaks English but speak their native tongue, like China Town, little Italy, little Armenia, Russia Town so right there your comment is bullshit...
Thirdly Most 3rd world countries where there citizens speak more than 3 languages, How hard is it to learn Spanish if the second most language spoken in America is Spanish..???
Shameful testimony

So you're saying we shouldn't speak more then one language because it makes us poorer? Great idea!
>some places you don't speak English in
That's bullshit and you know it. They are names that wat because they're compromised of mostly ethnic chinese/Italian, but most of them do speak English. Stop spreading lies.
It's actually a beautiful thing to speak two languages (and Spanish at that). I don't know why anyone would feel threatened by a second language when they are the one in a position of power
Yup! I speak 3 languages and man does it ever come in clutch!
They probably are afraid because they think speaking different languages by Latinos American kids or other non English speakers English American kids start speaking like them. Kids learn so fast but they might get a problem so soon with their native language especially if they are between 3 to 7 years old.

I don't know why so much trouble, the US is the second country with more spanish speakers in the world. And also, it'll be pretty akward if someone asks you in one language and you answer in another.
That's completely ridiculous. The second country with more Spanish speakers in the world must be a Latin American one
Ta Pelé Latin America is not a country.
@@tapele5987 nope, the first one is Mexico with 122 million spanish speakers, the second is the US, with 50 million and the third is Colombia, with 48 million.
