I had a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off Road and planned to get another, but I was hesitant to deal with the new model and the turbo 4 cyl. Test driving the Nissan and comparing it to my Taco, the difference between the Frontier's smooth, powerful V6 and the 2021 Toyota's sluggish V6 was night and day. The fact that these Frontiers are sharp, reliable, still using the V6 *and* offering $6-$7k discounts off MSRP made this truck too good for me to pass up. I bought the Frontier Pro-4X and love it.
The tacoma manual says for example that you need to let your truck idle for 1 min after coming home so it doesn't damage the turbo. If that alone isn't enough to cause people to stay away from these small turbo engines i don't know what else to say.
Yes, exactly. That alone is gonna hurt Toyota's future reliability factor that flock so many buyers to the brand. It's no longer gonna be a great second or third hand vehicle to buy anymore. As the infrastructure in the United States keeps getting worse having an over reinforced off-road vehicle like the Jeep or the Nissan Frontier seems a logical choice to handle the obstacles.
