I'm looking at the Chevy, Toy, and the Nissan, and the Nissan is winning. The value is there, it looks good, and has an amount of "truck features" I think are applicable to 90% of buyers. I really wanted a Tacoma, but their price point is bullshit.
@@billgeorge8415 Why even want a Mexican soft Taco these days? Making a killing off cheap Mexican labor AND raising the price, PLUS junk transmissions and shock towers busting from lack of real bump stops. TFL just did a video on 10 reasons Toyota stinks now.
GM aren't known for great reliability with small displacement turbo engines...Cruze. uh hem. I agree the naturally aspirated will have better longevity.
You keep saying "ancient" and "old" like it is a bad thing. New doesn't always mean better. The frame is carried over, but has been modified. It has no fancy gimmicks and has enough tech to keep it modern. If feels and drives like a truck. Nissan never made this to be THE best midsize truck, but wanted a truck that could do everything competently and, it does exactly that. I felt your review overall was good, especially showcasing the off road capabilities.
I think since it competes with others with better Tech those points are Valid. Sure buying a simple proven vehicle with texh that is closer to a 2013 then a 2023 is a point to be made. I persoanlly hated the Nissan. It looked like a Teenagers dream Truck, had outdated tech, seemed like a light truck not a Mid-Size. Was really small IMO, and it lasting longer than I will own it doesn’t matter to me. Which is why we differ on opinion no doubt on that. Time will tell I may eat crow one day 👍
I just bought this truck ( even the same color) for me it came down to dependability. There are plenty of Frontiers on the road with 200k-250k miles on them.
I live in LA, I’ve actually seen them with a 5K mark up. Was disappointed and couldn’t believe it since I was set on a Pro 4X. Gotta keep looking though
I prefer a simple stance truck and let the consumer decide on their preference on when and how they want their truck lifted or not. These on the lot lifted trucks can run up to 10k+ extra depending on the features. I rather buy the entry version of the Pro 4x and I can review and buy the lift, tires, wheels that I like and fits into my budget.
I have those same tires on my Z71 Tahoe & they're a great compromise. Great on road with essentially no more road noise than a highway tire. Off-Road they are great unless you get into deep mud, no A/T is great in deep mud... But a Mud Terrain tire is so compromised on-road that it becomes hard to justify for a daily.
I have a 2024 pro4x and love it ! It's a great truck and fast. I'm not a big off roader. Just test drive one so we'll built. Turning radius could be better though.
The Nissan Frontier isn't that "ancient." It was redesigned for what, the 2021 model year? 2022? Yeah it's got a naturally aspirated V6 but it's got a modern transmission and decent tech. It's not a 4Runner for sure. As far as which truck is best off road, they all have similar ground clearance, approach, departure and break over angles. The Frontier is, however, the cheapest mid sized on the market without itself being cheap (I'm of the mind the new Taco is way overpriced). I'd take a Frontier over a Taco any day
It's the best midsize truck on the market right now considering its platform like chassis has been time tested. As far as looks it's probably when the nicest looking midsize trucks out on the market currently
Nice video. I’ve seen a lot of videos talking about which off roader is better and what I find is, all of them do get up the hill in the end. If you measure success like that, then they are all great!
Down in the comments is where you find the best. On the TFL best off road mid size truck I saw way more positive comments about frontier than any other.
pro-4x should have used their nismo suspension that's sold seperately and gave it a slight lift on the pro4x trim, or at least option it from the factory.
AGREE 100%, you have most likely run across a comment of mine somewhere asking why in the hell nissan doesn't lift their trucks whatsoever anymore. Clearance is the only issue I see with the frontier. Why they quit lifting their trucks after the first gen frontier is beyond me.
Ahhhh… that’s the beauty of Frontier… everyone gets the same truck lowering the price… upgrades cost. But these trucks are very easy to mod in their simplicity. It’s an enthusiasts truck. Best at nothing, but 2nd best at everything.
I was thinking the same thing but then I realized that this is a great budget off-road truck that's just as good as a TRD. They also have a great aftermarket for it too. Nissan did also announce the foresberg edition package
Good grief! This is plenty of truck for me. My first rig was a 1985 Toyota regular cab. Bare bones. This has just the right tech and utilities I need. I should have it before end of spring.
I'm now in the market for a vehicle with more utility and have put the Frontier on my consideration list. I'm attracted to its straightforward design and proven mechanicals. I've been around "all-new" vehicles my entire life and can say all-new is not always a good thing. If something works great, leave it alone. Based on the high number of views of this video, your audience is probably thinking the same thing.
DIFFNITELY I WILL BUY THIS FRONTIER ON IT'S LAST 2 OR YEAR. FOR NOW I'LL LET THE PAWN BUYERS TEST IT FIRST UNTIL NISSAN IRON ALL THE BUGS. I STILL HAVE MY 2012 PATHFINDER LAST YEAR MODEL 0 ISSUES. I LIKE IT. NO NON SENSE ELECTRONIC FEATURES, EASY TO WORK AND MAINTAIN.
I like this Frontier and I never plan on going off-roading, maybe mild at most but I want a mid-size truck to pull a boat on steep, slippery boat ramps. I don't need high wheel travel or max distance clearance. I was actually thinking of a street truck but they are boring looking and maybe with this Frontier I might get off-road but never at an extreme level. So this truck at the top of my list, with the Tacoma, but they are hard to find and now there is a HUGE recall, and I saw a 1 month old 2024 Tacoma TRD break the front diff in a video, so the Tacoma's were already backlogged, this recall may make it harder to find.
not a bad truck but considering the Canyon At4 or At4x has front & rear lockers, higher suspension, multi-terrain modes, under body cameras, and larger tires, more torque, I would get the AT4x any day. The Nissan is nice but seems like a normal mid-size pickup truck.. nothing special about it.. Looks more like a regular work truck. but at that price point, it makes sense for those looking for a decent pickup truck that can last for years without doing anything special. I just did a configuration build for a Frontier with all the bells and whistles, including leather and tech pkg. It came out to $52k. For $54k I can get a fully equipped Canyon AT4X that has more bells and whistles and looks amazing just standing still. Thanks for sharing.
I bought a 2024 Pro 4X fully loaded with every option in early August for $45k out the door, MSRP was just shy of $51k. Absolutely love this truck. Never had the need for a front locker, multi terrain modes, which sounds more like a marketing gimmick, it should be just on road or off road...lol.
The size of this frontier I think is almost perfect. But I really feel this should have a lift with more aggressive tires. I really wish they designed the wheel wells to be wider and bigger and wish they came out with an off-road suspension for this Frontier pro 4x to dampen all that trail bobble.
As a happy Tacoma TRD PRO owner I will never buy another Tacoma again. It would definitely be the Frontier for me. Everything you despise is what alot of us admire. Could be a age thing.
Have you ever towed 5k or more with it? I am considering one as something more comfortable and daily driver friendly over my f250 but I do have a 16 and 20 foot enclosed trailer that I would like to tow with it. I feel like towing is where the frontier will fall short compared to the higher torque of the other brands with turbo.
Thats likely interest rate difference. Canyon rates inn Edmonton 5.94 nissan pro 4x rates 8.49%. I have been following Colorado and Canyon for well over a year as wanting to buy but all the problems with them scares me. Started looking at Pro 4X and loaded are at least 3k less
I would buy one but it doesn’t have awd option and living in Ohio where we get a lot of sleet and snow It’s nice to have that option, so I am buying the new GMC canyon at4 it offers awd 4high and 4low.
At least you don't run the risk of spooling the turbo with zero boost, less chance of overheating the oil (turbo) as well as the fact that turbos put a lot of stress on an engine! Also, cheaper maintenance and much longer life. Tiny 4cyl with turbos on big trucks as well as V6 engines with twin turbos for massive full size engines...shorter life, ask a new Tundra owner if they love little engines turbo charged for full and mid-size trucks. (recalled)
Suspension wise, wonder if all of it will be upgraded to more trail dampening. I would think they would want this truck to compete better with other off road trucks.
🤔 seems you got lost on those words and didn’t notice that I liked it in spite of its older design and tech. Also, the trucks are nearly the same price. Frontier Starting MSRP: $39,300 ($43,900 AT4) Frontier Price as tested: $47,630 ($49,355 AT4)
More buttons, less touch screen would seem to be better choice, especially off roading, didn't GMC remove the manual headlight switch on the 2023 Canyon and put it into a touch screen? wth! I think Nissan tried to keep the price down, making it somewhat more affordable for the buyers that don't always go off road but wanted a mid-size off road capable truck. Seems like there are lots of after market accessories available such as lift kits or get a lift added from dealer if you need a bit more clearance.
You forgot about the GM G80. Comes in all colorados and canyons. Mechanical locker that work at only 100rpm difference. You don't even have to push a button. Been around since the 70s.
@GTGarageTalk mine works great. Yes, if you do some serious rock crawling, electric lockers work great, but 99.99999% of the time there's no need for one with the g80.

Ford Ranger: 2.3 liter four cylinder single turbo. Toyota Tacoma: 2.3 liter four cylinder single turbo. Probably belongs to Subaru 😂 Canyon/Colorado: 2.7 Liter four cylinder single turbo. Mavericks 2.0 single turbo garbage. Aka small sub with a truck bed cut out, with a small car’s engine.
Those turbo trucks won’t last as long as this v6 will at 100k those turbos will have oil blow by I would choose the frontier over all of the other mid sized trucks
I do find this truck appealing but I have read negative reviews concerning the reliability of the transmission. Are there any owners out there who can agree or disagree?
I have a 2022 SV 4x4 crew cab. 40,000 trouble free miles. The 9 speed is one of the things I've liked most about my truck. It always finds the right gear to be in. Nissan cvts have proven troublesome in past years, and people have a hard time letting that go, but this 9 speed is fantastic. An awesome truck for those that want a real truck.
There was a transmission recall in 2022. I almost didn’t buy my 2023 Pro 4x when I learned of that. But I heard it was fixed so I took a chance. It’s been a year now and so far it’s great.
My thoughts exactly. I’ve got a Ridgeline and it’s been down some two tracks but I bought it because someone said it’s just a Pilot with a truck bed. I said you say that like it’s a bad thing. 😃
They got everything right EXCEPT not offering a long bed version or King cab at the Pro4X level. It's a mid-sized pickup. If I needed a Tow/haul vehicle I would go to a full size truck. The SV trim level offers those configuration which are ideal for most practical users of a pickup ( those needing a tool and not a mobile internet cafe/mobile home entertainment center/staus symbol). This is just a hit piece ...completely biased. This guy should have bought a different truck.
"Old and ancient" Objectively speaking the 3rd gen Frontier is built off the bones of the 2nd Gen Frontier dating back to 2005. For the sake of simplicity, it's pretty much a 2005 Frontier with a new body and interior. Even the 3.8 and 9 speed carried over from the 2nd Gen.
Using "Low torque" as a critique like the truck doesnt have a completely adequate towing capacity, and lets be real... who needs 400 ft/lbs of torque in a midsize truck? If you NEED those torque levels, buy a fullsize...
Can anyone do a reliability comparison ?rather than trim ? Trim is secondary to reliability ! What’s the use of a trimmed up truck that doesn’t work lol
Reliability takes more time than we are allowed with one week of time in a vehicle. Some brands do loan vehicles for longer, but without buying one ourselves and testing it for at least a year, that is all we can provide. I would recommend sites like carcomplaints.com for reliability issues.
Can’t knock that trying to climb that incline in 4H with those garbage tires in loose gravel/soil. SMH 🤦🏼♂ It’s a decent truck at the price point if you’re not looking for something with a serious level of off road capability, but it has nothing on the Colorado or Canyon even the Elevation trim Canyon with the G80 has so much more real applicable capability than what you highlighted on paper stats. What the Nissan really has going for it is Nissans current situation with highly overstocked vehicles they’re offering very good deals when pushed.
@@GTGarageTalk no doubt. An area nissan needs to pay more attention to. Something set up with it's belly on the ground is most likely going to have very little wheel travel. Sway bar kills some of that too.
@@GTGarageTalk I got you I just went back and read both of our comments I think we had a misunderstanding. When I was talking about sitting on the ground I meant nissan putting no lift or anything along those lines on their trucks anymore. I didn't mean you needed to jump that thing in the air to get some wheel travel. 😁
Your going to take a brand new truck on the road more than off road. So would rather have a truck built for comfort on road vs off road ability. Dirt roads and gravel don't count and that's what most people count as off road. I think of off road as there isn't a road at all and wouldn't do that in a new truck.
💯😂😂😂😂 almost half the torque of my dads 23 canyon stop it my sides hurt😂😂. Took it up a steady 0-40 degree angle 2 miles long during the freak country wide snow storm during February with at least 5 inches of snow covered road at 3 A.M.

I own a 2023 Pro 4x. The 9 speed had some issues in 2022 that was rectified and small numbers, but no issues I'm 2023 or 2024s so far.
I have a 2024 only time will tell. My first thought it's great ! Motor and tranny match perfectly. 😊
There was a transmission recall in 2022. I almost didn’t buy my 2023 Pro 4x when I learned of that. But I heard it was fixed so I took a chance. It’s been a year now and so far it’s great.
Did he complain about having to read the word "camera"😂😂
Not complaining, just stating a fact. Point of difference from many others. 😉
@@GTGarageTalk Wasn't having a go, just made me chuckle.
😉
Glad you called yourself ancient
Caught that did ya?
Why so much emphasis on off-roading How many fools would spend 45k for a beautiful Truck to climb rocks and jump ditches ???
This is the off road review. I have a separate, on road review. But this is the Off-road model
That's exactly what they're built for haha!
some fool that doesn't want to deal with breaking down 10km away from the nearest road on the trail.
The pro-4x is supposed to be the off road ready trim.
This is just a hit piece
...completely biased. This guy should have bought a different truck.
just think what it would do with better tires !
People, don’t forget it’s a truck “not a jeep”
All that torque coming out of little éngines not good
Turbos , I will pass !
Sadly it seems to be the way of the present (not even the future anymore).
For trails like that you shouldn't even be in 4hi. I think Nissan has more confidence in the intelligence of their customers than the competition.
Such a negative review!
Nissan, please count how many times he called the truck old and ancient.
I would not lend him another review unit. Like ever !
Even if it’s good in spite of its age? 🤔
By the way, we are in an INFINITI right now. 🤷🏼♂️
"Old and ancient"
Objectively speaking the 3rd gen Frontier is built off the bones of the 2nd Gen Frontier dating back to 2005. For the sake of simplicity, it's pretty much a 2005 Frontier with a new body and interior. Even the 3.8 and 9 speed carried over from the 2nd Gen.
@@JJsGA I agree. I just think he was a bit excessive.
Using "Low torque" as a critique like the truck doesnt have a completely adequate towing capacity, and lets be real... who needs 400 ft/lbs of torque in a midsize truck? If you NEED those torque levels, buy a fullsize...
Offroading? Please, Grandma!
If your going off road get a Rubicon , no brainer !
You can snag one for a steal now for sure.
Wheel travel isn't something you get on a vehicle sitting on the ground.
Wheel travel is a key component of articulation and keeping tires on the ground. It’s not just for jumping.
Tell me how you really feel about it 🤣
Your going to take a brand new truck on the road more than off road. So would rather have a truck built for comfort on road vs off road ability. Dirt roads and gravel don't count and that's what most people count as off road. I think of off road as there isn't a road at all and wouldn't do that in a new truck.
Not ancient, it’s redesign
new body on an old platform. 😉
I hate 4 bangers and stick a turbo on it , I'm out !
All turbo engines cars i had were poop do not last a long time 😢. Nissan is the way togo.
It has 4wd you turn it on and turn it off
Correct. A 2 speed transfer case.
GM i4= not good. Cruze are the worst reliable car known to man 😂
And yet I’ve not had catastrophe after catastrophe with mine. lol.
💯😂😂😂😂 almost half the torque of my dads 23 canyon stop it my sides hurt😂😂. Took it up a steady 0-40 degree angle 2 miles long during the freak country wide snow storm during February with at least 5 inches of snow covered road at 3 A.M.
Nissan is good untill get aroud 60 ,000 miles then pray for transmission
Frontier still looks cheap to me and for 4x4 it still sucks i don't care how much you Frontier lovers try to pick it up "Frontier sucks" tacoma is still number 1👍
