    Drove these and the Colorado Z71. At $50k the Chevy/GMC are a no brainer BUT I wanted to point out a major ace up the sleeve for the Frontier that is actually making this a difficult decision for me. The driving "feel". The hydraulic steering and suspension on the Frontier felt significantly better while driving. I felt numb and disconnected on the Chevy/GMC but loved everything else about them, especially the tech, interior quality, looks and performance. Since driving is what i'll be doing 99% of the time, I'm actually leaning toward the Pro4x IF I can get one at a reasonable price (around the $38k msrp) if not, I'm likely going with the z71. I'm also fortunate enough to have an M2 Comp as well when I want the luxury/performance so it's not needed in my work horse.

      The PRO4X in this video is a replacement buy back trade from Nissan. Dustin's original Nissan Frontier was red. At 50 miles the motor would overheat and then go into limp mode. Nissan bought his back and he got this.

    In the midsize category bigger and wider isn’t always what people want. I like both trucks but I think the Nissan in Baja Storm pulls off the sand colour better. Equally equipped the Frontier is thousands less expensive and for that reason it’s a close call. Agree with the steering wheel being outdated on the Frontier. Smoother engine with the V6. Price wise this compares more with the Elevation

    I work at a gmc dealership and boy does the new canyons feel much nicer than the previous gens. Very comfortable to drive in. I always criticized on how small the steering wheel is and how the steering wheel feels because it has that weird leather feel on all gmc trucks, but too me the steering wheel on the new canyons are bigger in size and the grip on it is great too. Driving gmc on a daily I feel like the steering wheel feels a little heavy or stiff while turning. Definetly not the new canyon I would get the canyon at4, however I want to wait until the new 2024 tacoma gets released and see what new specs are on those, especially if it comes with a hybrid engine.

I also wanted a natural aspirating V6 engine and Nissan has the best hp for that, I do gotta say though the new Colorado and canyons are nice especially with the more powerful hp and torque. GM has upped their game and I don’t know if Toyota will reach those power train numbers with a turbo engine ( it will be close) but I think it will go more towards fuel efficiency with a hybrid. Although they could go compact for fuel efficiency and mid size for power who knows either way GM set the bench mark for mid size trucks.

    Best comparison video that I've seen so far. I can tell you I was leaning toward the Nissan but after your review and comments I may have to relook at the GMC. 2024 will be an interesting year as Ford ,Honda and Toyota are refreshing their midsize pickups, and from what I hear, possibly Nissan doing a refresh to keep up. I think the NA engine in the Nissan is a big plus since GM hasn't had a good history with their turbo engines. However it seems the market and manufacturers are leaning toward the 4 cyl turbo charged offerings in this category. I wished the Frontier would come out lifted from the factory, but I know I can add 1.5" to it with an aftermarket kit that's reasonably priced.

    It's interesting to watch, especially in retrospect, knowing what later experiences you had with Canyon. I think both trucks are not the ideal place for rear passengers. Perhaps the Canyon is better at this (airflow and space), but mid-size trucks are not made for this - no one (except possibly children) will miss a ride in the backseat.
    I like the previous version of the Canyon better - maybe it was outdated, maybe bland, but the new one - I feel like this - is more of a computer on wheels than a truck. But for someone upgrading from a larger truck, the Canyon may be just the right size.
    Of the two (Canyon and Frontier), I would choose the Frontier, but the extended cab version (Canyon no longer offers it) for myself and my partner, and to transport more people, I would probably choose something other than a mid-size truck. In the new version of Frontier, I don't like the hood raised too high at the front, which limits visibility. Everything else is great including the sound of the engine, although the 4.0 engine has an even nicer sound, but they don't offer it anymore.

      I never said it was. I explained in the video that the truck was not loaded but could be optioned up to $50k. But the interior does not change when you move up the levels. By the name on your profile I can see you are a Nismo fan! Did you know that Dustin's truck in the video was the second Frontier he has owned in the past six months? His first one was factory buy back because it overheated after driving 25 miles and they could not fix the problem. Nissan bought it back before lemon law attorneys got involved. They got the PRO4X after being paid off by Nissan. Please be careful making blanket statements about manufacturers. It's not a good look. Thanks for watching!

    Wonder how far you had to look for a frontier without a bedliner or the utility track system. Went to 4 different nissan dealers and did not find one without a liner. plus the canyon is loaded the frontier is not. plus I didnt know gm found a new way for #s to look on a dashboard. I own a loaded pro4x and it was still thousands cheaper. plus I dont think you should do a review when you own one of them. Turbo long term I dont know.

      I specifically stated that this was not the loaded PRO4X which is only $2-3000 less than GMC. But it has same dash and motor as the loaded truck. I had plenty of good things to say about the Nissan, but when it comes to refinement, cabin size is bigger in Pro4X but even the top Pro4X does not compete with the styling inside or outside of the Canyon. • @ToddCotta

      I said that in the video, but you can build a $46k AT4 and $46K Frontier. So it is not that simple. Plainly stated, the top line of the Nissan does not have an interior nearly as nice as the base model GMC Canyon Elevation. Nissan is just not as refined as the Canyon. Thanks for watching!

    GMC more power, less life, and more $ overtime. Nissan has better suspension and a 2.5 inch lift costs hardly anything. I m not lured in by shiny things . I want longevity and dependability, I’ll stay with my Nissan. I’d rather by an American truck, but I don’t like being broke down either.

      I don't know what everybody is talking about. Jap is good, USA is junk. Those are generalizations that I can't abide. I come a family full of mechanics. I guarantee you that little turbo will not out last the naturally aspirated V6. My last truck was a F250 7.3 diesel. It was a great truck. Yes there are things American car builders do better, but not in this realm and they never have. When I need a diesel I’ll by American again. When I need a small gas saver I’m buying Toyota or Nissan. Not a fan of Honda but that just a preference.

    I own that very same frontier and color.. nissan updated the truck but they didn't update it. I feel nissan should do a nismo trim

    I dont think it was a fair assessment.. at4 is wayyy above that pro 4x trim level

    • @ToddCotta

      Still Nissan has not embraced the US market by making luxury trucks, very similar to Tacoma. Basic interiors. But prices are similar. I was going on price for what you get, not necessarily 1 for 1 comparison. Even the Frontier at the same price point still has same interior and if looks more like a work truck not family vehicle. Realistically, at what point is something too much. The GMC is more of a luxury vehicle and most people buying it will probably never leave the payment. The Frontier, while much more basic, actually seems like a truck. They focused on the important things and reduced their price by not having all the little luxuries. I would assume the frontier will probably last a lot longer because of this as well.

    Nissan has a great truck but the new GM twins show that it is already is need of a technology update. I love the Nissan exterior design and the look of the interior but the infotainment system graphics are dated and the camera quality is poor. Plus Nissan needs a trim to compete with the AT4X and ZR2. Something next level.

      If they improved engine build and mechanics it could be capable of running a factory supercharger to compete.. but Nissan doesn't want to lead the pack. Still falls short in every other area. Kind of like the Chicago Cubs.. wait until next year lol😂

    • @ToddCotta

      I guess they want to keep the Frontier in last place for sales. Go big or go home is what is needed to keep interest in a brand. The Titan and Frontier are the poorest selling trucks on the market because of their bland styling and lack of technology and power. You would think at least they would try to dethrone the Tacoma, but no, just throw old parts in a new truck and call it all new. I guess Nissan likes last place.

    • @Garlander
      @Garlander Год назад +2

      @@ToddCotta actually you're wrong about the sales, the canyon was in last place last year with only 27,000 trucks sold, frontier was tied with the gladiator at 76,000 and sold more than the ridgeline and ranger, and frontier sales in the last 2 years are up 25.5% on average. Say again how nissan has poor sales and is in last place. Might want to get your facts straight if you're gonna be a "content creator" and not just make up BS.

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  Год назад

      Yes 76k Gladiators were sold. But what people refuse to acknowledge is the Canyon is an upscale Colorado under the GM Banner. 117,016 of these trucks were sold in 2022. Same with the Sierra and Silverado, the same trucks in the same factory but Ford always splits the numbers when GM spanks them every year in total trucks sold. Thanks for commenting.
