Drove my 24 home tonight from work and got 22.6 mpg on the highway... 62 mph. At a park yesterday a 98 4Runner was parked next to me, no rust and the owner showed me the odometer after he took the canoe off the roof. Almost 250,000 miles. Still going strong. The 2025 4Runner is too big, ugly and I doubt they will be known for the reliability the previous gens are.

Simple:They need to pause.This is not leftover metal that may have not been cleaned out of the block. This is most likely a bad tolerance on the bearing design or that plate they are using for the bearings instead of individual caps. They need to repeatedly test the motor failures in a controlled environment and address the design flaws. They changed the bearing design and the plate. There are cases where the motor was rebuilt and still failed a second time. Crate motors won’t help.this needs to be properly diagnosed,either way Toyota is gonna have a real expensive problem. I can’t believe they FINALLY admitted there is a problem.

Get a used truck and put it to work.

I took my 22 in for first oil change after 1k miles. Boy were they arguing with me about doing that and I’d have to pay for it. I said ok, I’ll pay the $100. 10k oil changes on a turbo vehicle is insane to me. 4-5k changes for me.

Toyota's reputation will go in the sh!tter. The Taco is cheap and overpriced, the Tundra has a disaster for an engine and a laundry list of issues. The new 4Runner coming looks ridiculous and it's too big. The LC250 looks great so hopefully that will be better but I'm already hearing about the hood being so thin it flaps in the wind. 5th gen 4Runners are about to go up in value.

I expect Toyota to accept responsibility for their sh!t 3.5ltr turbo and bring back the v8 as an option.

How will they know if there is crap in the engine blocking oil passages ??? Hyundai had the same issue but they didn’t step up and do a recall.

They might be tempted to walk away from the tundra How hard was it to do a turbo V6 ? Ford has been doing it for years It isn’t as though this engine is ground breaking It must come down to cutting corners and big time cutting corners

Welcome to the exciting world of new Toyota, where you can buy a KIA at 3x the cost! If it was shavings in the engine from the factory then what does that tell you about quality control? If it's shavings not from the factory what does that tell you about their engine designs? The brand new Tacoma breaking an axle on one of the biggest youtube channels? These are not all just coincidence and bad luck. Kia replaced all the Theta engines this same thing happened to for customers that brought back rather than dumped on the used market. You said yourself you would be getting rid of the truck after the recalI if it happened to you so all the more reason to never buy used. I do NOT expect Toyota to drop in new engines.

I hope Toyota doesn’t do a crate engine replacement with an engine with the same problem as the original engine. THATS NOT A FIX! Toyota better get it fixed properly or their name for reliability will be mud. Toyota find the real problem and fix it properly not a bandage solution.

🚨 If it truly is metal debris in the engine if I was Toyota, I would bring the vehicles in for an engine flush and then give every tundra a 150,000 mile engine warranty. If the engine makes it to 150,000 miles it’s probably a good one… problem solved.

The techs aren’t to blame at all. These engines are just not designed well and are failing. As a Toyota tech I’d like to see long blocks. Leas to worry about and less time for me. No way it’s going to be a day though dude. Don’t put that expectation out there.

DEAR ; Sir You are absolutely right short Block engine is a bad idea , I've read many of these engines are not holding up.. I have a 2023 Tundra my front diff and transfer case was replaced with Only 600 miles on the truck .. My Dealer in SSM Ontario Canada was very good taking care of me with a new Tundra to use. It took over 3 months to get my truck back .. The TOYOTA CORP. also compensated me . I've own TOYOTA'S for 37 years and said to CORP. they need there QUALITY back into their engines . My Dealer alone had 4 engines to replace.. My FIRST oil change was at 1,200 miles NOT 10,000 Miles maybe I'm okay no issues yet .. I work on engines for 40 years your first oil change is very important usually change it at around 600 to 1000 miles ...

They should throw the towel, extend midle finger to the EPA and do unthinkable and put in nice brand new 5.7 in.

How do you folks live with sub 20 mpg? And you know the push is for hybrids and electrics, gas is only going to keep getting more expensive and you will likely be made a pariah. I am hoping you change my mind because if not for that I'd buy one of these.

If they do a flush slight of hamd they better give a lifetime powertrain warranty with it or i wouldnt be satisfied flush wouldnt repair damage from metal shavings in turbo bearings or cyl walls mains ect. Mine hasnt failed it does idle a little rough for only having 10k miles. It idles more like my corolla with 130k miles but on the other hand i love my truck i want whatever it takes to have a truck that makes it to 300k miles before needing anything major thats the only way ill be happy because thats why i bought a tundra not something else

Toyota may have to eat a lot of buybacks of the whole vehicle because there are many lemon law states that say that the vehicle needs to be fixed and tested within 30 days of the problem or they are required to purchase the vehicle back from the owner…….

The best thing they can is to extend the warranty of the engine to 10 years and 100,000 miles and let people just use their vehicles.

I unfortunately bought a 24 in January. So mine was built in late 23. Hopefully mine dodge the bucket. Only thing that would be close to right would be a crate engine. Not the new block part swap nonsense. A flush would do nothing.

It's too bad that the new one is likely to be less reliable because they look a lot better than that generation. I've never cared for the appearance of it and the weird front end styling.

I bought a used 2019 4Runner in December of 2023. I will have it paid off this December 2024 and will keep it and maintain it for years to come. Wooo!!

I looked hard at the tundra in 23. Just looking at the window gaskets pilling off and cheap interior materials I decided to buy a Ram. Zero issues and hemi v8.

Bro…if I had one of them whichever it maybe I ain’t sweating it all they have to do is give me something else to drive..so nothing is gonna stop me from driving a Toyota or Lexus 😁 right now am driving a 22 Lexus RX 350 so am good now..but am really not worried about nothing 🤷🏾‍♂️..nothing they can’t handle just like any other manufacturer & especially when u have a reputation to keep yeah I get it

It's a shame Toyota is all about the money and screwing their customers. I was hoping they would make things right since they replaced my Tacoma frame. I still wouldn't buy a Tundra just because I know their dealers will do a piss poor job like when I had my frame replaced.

Metal shavings left in the engine is a lame but a dangerous excuse. First, saying that makes you feel weak, irresponsible, lack of QC, lack of control and the list goes on. To me is something else. How about the ones made in Japan, or the tundras with an already engine swap that failed for a second time. Don’t be naive! If they offer an oil engine flush, instead of a new engine, that will be the biggest slap in the face they have given so far.
