Something else I noticed is that everything comes with a sunroof nowadays. Unless you buy the base trim. To me that's just something else that can either leak or break. It's also something that I really don't use. So it would be nice to buy a vehicle and say I don't want the sunroof.
That is funny. I won't buy one without one. They are very problem free, particularly if you never use them. My 2003 Yukon has one, and I still use it several times per month. No issues or leaks. There were way more issues with the old pop up style sunroofs, than the sliding moon roofs.
I’ve owned 20 different vehicles and every single one has/had a sunroof. Not a single issue. I only buy Japanese brand vehicles so maybe that’s why.🤷♀️
@@ericpigg2689 I'm the same way. I bought a new vehicle in May without one and I'm already to swap it out; I hope to replace it by the end of the year. I wish every vehicle had a sunroof option for the base model, but unfortunately we usually have to climb trim levels to get it.
I have had soft tops, a targa top, and a couple of sunroofs. Sunroofs are just plain stupid. They are totally unlike an open vehicle. You can't really use them in Summer. You obviously can't use them in Winter. There's no reason to want to at any other time. They're just a waste of money and potential leak points.
White is pretty much the best colour for resisting sun fading, handles scratches from bushes better, is often a cheaper colour to buy & is cooler than many other colours.
I factory-ordered Silver Spruce on my 2019 F-150, which has a strong green-gray and changes in different lighting. I had to do my homework, after I decided on everything else, to even know about it, and take a chance on comments from F-250 owners on the internet. You never see them. Wild colors are difficult to sell. Only a particular customer wants to stand out. Most people don’t like a lot of attention. Especially from the cop holding a radar gun.😂
Nice greens, blues, and reds aren't wild colors. They're just colors. Bright yellow is polarizing, though not unpopular on Jeeps. Subaru sells a lot of orange cars.
Funny you mentioned this. I was at the Toyota dealership this morning and saw the same thing. Didn’t realize it until this video but I did tell the guy on a few cars “ to bad they are black. “ to hot where I’m at to drive a black car been there done that.
White, black, and grey are the colors that most people prefer to buy today. New Jeeps in bright colors sit for more days on the lot and are more difficult to sell. Dealers order the colors that they think will appeal to the most people. This is a trend that has been happening over the past 20 years but I don’t have an explanation for why people’s preferences have changed.
I’ve noticed a similarity with cars too. Cars marketed to younger people get “fun” special colors. Cars marketed to the a-typical middle income adult gets white, silver, grey, black, or maroon. Sometimes a dull blue or olive green or other subdued color, but nothing to get excited about. I’m an adult and I’m not scared of color, in fact I would appreciate having a non-dull and boring color option. Along with a good paint (think mazda, especially their red, gorgeous paint). Most middle class income cars their paint reminds me of nail polish, as if it was an after thought.
I have notice this for years. I do know at one point it was hard to get Red paint and Toyota had stopped showing it as a option on there website. A year ago I did end up buying a Red Camry 2024 and there was a up-charge and the paint red paint was not sprayed inside the door openings like where the hinges for the door are LOL. I ended up Trading for a 2024 4 runner this year and was not able to find a red one. and in the Limited trim they only offered 6 colors one dark blue and one red the other 4 were some type of black white gray. I ended up getting a 4 Runner in Underground which is a dark gray. Not my pick but And don't even start with the interior colors. You can have any color interior you want as long as its Black LOL.
They can barely sell vehicles as it is. Look at the density of the vehicles on the lots. Many of them have been there for 100 days plus. Adding some exotic colors to the mix only adds to those woes, because it takes a particular buyer to buy those low volume colors, and most buyers always have the option to just order exactly what they want.
it's funny i asked a salesman's years ago about the same thing what's with only black, white a grey cars/trucks and he told me the reason was because the guy who orders for the dealers picks those colors because that's what sells the best and the most popular colors buyers want if that helps you.
You already answered your own question. I truly believe it’s cheaper. I used to be a pain or back in the days. Everything’s done by machines for me painting by hand. It was easier to paint, white or silver.

I've been talking about this for decades . Back in the mid 90's the Ford dealerships were like a bag of skittles. You could find anything you wanted in any color, yellow like the Baywatch lifeguard trucks, green, light blue, orange. They even had a color called mystic which I think might have been a wrap in iridescent vinyl but that was long before wraps were a thing. Those days are gone. I really only want a black one with blacked out wheels and badges. I'd like to say I started that trend with that because now everywhere you look is another blacked out truck and they charge you $4000 for the blackout package. And with Toyota Highlanders.... it was hilarious there was a period during the pandemic where the only color Highlander you could get was white and so every one you'd see on the road was another white toyota highlander.
All the local Nissan dealers near me have a variety of nice colors in the Frontier. In between the colors being way more plentiful and the fact that the Frontier is the only midsized truck that is still a naturally aspirated V6, that would be the truck I would personally lean towards (not terrible deals either and dealers are willing to negotiate). You should look at the Titan, which is getting discontinued, and the Frontier in another video. (At one point Titan was doing 7,000 off and 0% financing for 84 months)
All the nice colors sell so you see what is left. I have never bought a new vehicle from the dealer lot. I always order exactly what I want option and color wise, If I'm going to spend this amount of money I'm after what I want and not willing to settle for something else.
Probably an updated version on you can have any color you want as long as its black. They have probably streamlined their painting process as these are the colors most people want and therefor if they only make 4 or 5 colors then it cuts their cost and streamlines production time for the manufacturers.
Some of these insurance companies base their premium on the vehicle color, which is insane, might be the cost of the premium colors in the case of an accident to have to repaint the vehicle.
BASF supplies the paint for Ford. Since their energy costs are through the roof due to cutting themselves off from Russian energy in Germany,, it costs money to add pigments. If they create the pigments in Germany and Ford uses a variant of White and Black and some pigment to create Silver, it will be cheaper. Ford's Avalanche Grey required to many pigments so it was delete even though it was popular. Ford has one colour (Blue, I wonder why). If you want Red that is a higher priced option. Gm offers Red with Blue as an option.
The dull colors of white, silver (shades of gray), and black... It's gotten to the point where brown is an exciting color. I mean, WTF!? And don't get me going on the all-black interiors or almost all-black with some tan or almost white on the seats. It's all about cost to drive profit. A dark car with a dark interior is not only boring, but unless you can afford the packages with ventilated seats, you cook in the summer throughout the South and Southwest. The manufacturers also want us to get excited about contrast stitching. Oh yeah, there is red stitching on a black interior. It's all so stupid.

They've researched what people actually buy vs what sits on the lot longer. It's color trends, just look inside most peoples homes now. The browns and pastel accent walls are mostly gone. It's all grey. I don't think it's a manufacturer decision because they just upcharge for more expensive to produce paint colors. I think it's just consumer driven. From a practical standpoint silvers and greys don't show dirt three seconds after you wash it. White doesn't show swirl marks as easily and black will always be popular for everything because it denotes luxury and sophistication. I'm curious as to why there are so many countries with flags that contain combinations of red, blue, and white.
Your analysis on Toyota v. the rest is backwards from what I’ve been told while touring Toyota’s Assembly Plant 😂Georgetown, KY. Toyota told us dealers buy what they want and those vehicles are considered “sold” when they leave the factory. They also stated “the others” build and “push” their choices to dealers. That was in 2018. Maybe things have changed. Also, I hate the “grayscale” offerings because blue is my favorite color for any vehicle. When we bought a new SUV 🚙 this summer, my wife and oldest wouldn’t look at anything like red or blue, so a Baltic Gray Metallic Jeep Grand Cherokee now resides with us. 🤷♂️ It was their deal and we traded a Plum Crazy Purple Charger on it 😢
What I noticed is that there are no more regular cab pick up's. Dealers just order $50k plus Crew Cabs. I don't even think that they are trying to sell vehicles to "regular" people anymore. They are just looking for rich customers and it really looks like that individual transportation will be a privilege for the rich, in the future. The "peasants" can ride the bus.
THANK YOU for pointing out how blahhhh colors are today. In fact, we have been holding off buying a new Coloroado/Canyon simply because the colors suck!! Please GM bring back Orange Crush, Oasis Blue, Flame Red, etc. We want colors that POP
Interiors have really taken a beating. Likely medium grey or dark grey/ black options only. Our Jetta and CRV were ordered with white and light tan. No option in CRV any longer. Medium dark or dark only.( Touring model only hybrid also). I believe it's a cost saving measure. Could exterior colors be similar? We ordered a new Rav and able to get light grey/meduim grey mix. Nice! I believe lighter color makes interior more roomier.Note : In Canada you can order a Toyota personally ( through dealership) of your liking, under option sheet.
Cheaper + it's what the majority of buyers want. Color is harder to sell to the majority and dealers know that anyone who wants color is willing to pay extra
I think it might have to do with customer preference. I'm guessing most truck buyers are middle-aged men like myself, and I just don't like flashy colors. I have two trucks and they are a Sting Gray Gladiator and a White GMC Sierra 2500. My wife's Grand Cherokee is Black. If people wanted the flashy colors, manufacturers would make them. Look at the wrangler, which goes for a younger demographic, it has tons of color options.
I know I can live with a white vehicle for the rest of my life and not regret it. I might do one of the cement grey type of colors. But white is the best imo.
I live in the state of GA where a sunroof is just about the most useless thing on a vehicle. But you know, I can forgive the sunroof. What I can't forgive is all the manufacturers going to twin turbocharged super small displacement engines on trucks. I had a Tundra with the V6 and it's a shit engine. They're not reliable at all. Traded it in for a 24 Bighorn 2500. It's a much more reliable truck than the Toyota.
I think it's a scam. If you want a different color other than black, grey, white, and silver you have to order one, or let them find one for you at an extra charge.
I do miss the days of interesting color options. I mean good lord, why does nobody offer a truck in a nice bright orange, or green anymore? I do like some of the blues and reds out there, but I'm begging for some more interesting color choices.
The amount of black cars in the deep south is disturbing. People have no idea what they are doing. Touch that black paint on a hot day and then touch the while painted car next to it. Heat also promotes corrosion.
I think it's because those are the 'safe' colors, and being that everything is expensive nowadays the consumer prob doesn't want to risk it on an orange or a blue
Come on guys, this is a easy one fellas, resale values bruh, resale value gentlemen. Some odd ball color for a special edition vehicle might be worth something down the road, but most people want ro be able to trade or sell after a few years and plain colors move easier!
Remember when the tsunami hit the east coast of Japan a decade or so ago? ALL the vehicles you saw floating in the wash were WHITE. Not even any black or grey or silver. I thought it looked like the video was shot in B&W and the vehicles were actually refrigerators!! Very utilitarian & saves on the expense of painting multiple colors. Don’t know why they do that or why domestic company’s doing that now - does seem odd.
And they all have black wheels . . they all look like rental car wheels from a distance . . . some colors and vehicles pull thr black wheels off nicely but damn go back to the polished wheels . . . and not that cheap ass plastic chrome cover over the satin wheels either
He says every single one is white gray or black except for that one and that one I don’t think he knows what everyone one of these vehicles means if everyone of these vehicles are black gray or white that means there’s no other colored vehicles on the lot wow
For the most part, all their colors suck. This looks obvious from what they're stocking. Nothing imaginative or good looking anymore with their colors. I know Ford has had a couple of popular ones over the years---but in standard fashion they charge more for them if they see popularity.
Thanks!

Traded it in for a 24 Bighorn 2500. It's a much more reliable truck than the Toyota.
I think it's a scam. If you want a different color other than black, grey, white, and silver you have to order one, or let them find one for you at an extra charge.
They are saving $ offering 3 colors.
I do miss the days of interesting color options. I mean good lord, why does nobody offer a truck in a nice bright orange, or green anymore? I do like some of the blues and reds out there, but I'm begging for some more interesting color choices.
I feel like the bland colors are the only ones they will easily negotiate on. The fancy colors sell fast and have more negotiation power
Could be right
The amount of black cars in the deep south is disturbing. People have no idea what they are doing. Touch that black paint on a hot day and then touch the while painted car next to it. Heat also promotes corrosion.
I think the unique colors are bought before they even get there. I know you can order from Nissan too.
I think it's because those are the 'safe' colors, and being that everything is expensive nowadays the consumer prob doesn't want to risk it on an orange or a blue
All about the green 💰💰
@@Dayl8te i believe you are spot on
Not cost cutting on paint and charging you for it, the clear coat paint layers are getting thinner and thinner
I like my metallic silver ZR2
@@dwightengle8802 just bought a sand dune metallic colorado zr2 today
Those are the cheapest paint colors to use. Me personally those are the colors i like in all my vehicles.
I like simple colors too
Come on guys, this is a easy one fellas, resale values bruh, resale value gentlemen.
Some odd ball color for a special edition vehicle might be worth something down the road, but most people want ro be able to trade or sell after a few years and plain colors move easier!
Asia it’s all black , white , grey , silver
Anything other than white, black, silver or gray costs an extra $1k. Guess what sells.
Recession colors
Ah, you picked up on my comment :)
I did
It is because they sell in high volume .These colors are most likely to sell .
I want to hear about the hunting trip
Went fantastic. Lots of deer meat in the freezer and great memories. I have a channel for all my hunting stuff. @SamkoTradBow
I do remember seeing that footage
Cost of Goods Sold explains it.
Cost effective colors. I would say. Easy to match, Jason?
Great point
Up here in the PNW 8/10 cars are white. I hate it.
The three most boring color options, and I don’t get why. All of the trucks look great in red, blue, and even orange.
Simple: COST CUTTING
they make the colors that sell
People buying them...thats why....when you tell the consumer this is what you get...take it and choke on it....and you do ...what do you expect
Manufacturers are laughing at you
And they all have black wheels . . they all look like rental car wheels from a distance . . . some colors and vehicles pull thr black wheels off nicely but damn go back to the polished wheels . . . and not that cheap ass plastic chrome cover over the satin wheels either
I refuse to buy these boring colors
Pue greed and shame, nothing but paper thin medal and plastic and a hundred recalls and no parts to fix there junk.
He says every single one is white gray or black except for that one and that one I don’t think he knows what everyone one of these vehicles means if everyone of these vehicles are black gray or white that means there’s no other colored vehicles on the lot wow
K
Color sells, Americans would buy a polished turd if it was painted in a pretty color.
For the most part, all their colors suck. This looks obvious from what they're stocking. Nothing imaginative or good looking anymore with their colors. I know Ford has had a couple of popular ones over the years---but in standard fashion they charge more for them if they see popularity.
