The reason we’ve been told that manufacturers are going to the smaller block engines with turbo power is for higher output coupled with better fuel efficiency. Getting used to having a turbo vehicle but it is different than a naturally aspirated v8 or diesel. Pay no attention to the tow numbers on mid sized trucks. Even a mild half ton truck will haul way better. I didn’t buy this thing to haul for sure. However, to you SxS owners out there. Thank you for all the great videos you put out, always looking forward to each one.
there isn't one. You have to step up to the AT4X which is a tarted up ZR2 Bison. The Denali is just a gaudy version of the Z71. I wish the AT4 had a ZR2 non-bison package option with the front and rear locker. They've deliberately laddered their models between the two versions. Want more features than a Trail Boss? your step up is the ATX, because the Z71 doesn't have the lift from the Trail Boss but the AT4 does. If you want more off road capable truck you slide to the ZR2, get the lockers and upgraded suspensions.
Yes, you do, and few of the reviewers mentioned that the stock on the left side of the steering wheel controls, flashing the brights or flicking them on manually.
This is the truck for me, ZR2 in Radiant Red TintCoat, it don’t get no better than that for the money, I like the ZR2 Bison but it is just too much money.
Jason, beautiful truck….but, in my opinion it will not hold up to the abuse you would put it through. But if you got one it would be interesting to see. I’d stay with the Gladdy!
Well, then again, the Toyotas aren’t going more than 2000 miles before their transmissions give out and the myriad of other problems they have. I’ll take the Chevy.
These trucks have great platforms but they're riddled with issues unfortunately. Purchased a 2024 trailboss and have had nothing but issues. Really love the platform but GM/Chevy need to do a better job in that department. Some of the issues i have experienced: Roof dented in from automatic carwash (the roof is like a tin can and caves in from the air dryers lol) this was fixed and recalled via dealer Turn the truck off and... it stays on. all electronics run for 5-10 minutes AFTER the vehicle is shut off due to software updates. Only way to prevent this is literally disconnecting the battery - i've had a dead battery TWICE from this software issue. Reverse camera issues (pop the truck into reverse and the screen goes black). Transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd can be super rough when its cold. Shifts to second, RPM rockets up but you lose power temporarily then it'll engage and rock the truck. (Chev says this is "normal"). Of course every vehicle brand out there has issues, but the owner forums are full of people experiencing similar issues. For those interested in purchasing I would advise to add that extended warranty or sell the truck before you lose the factory coverage.
Jason, the reason I and probably a lot of folks dislike the headlight integrated in the screen is the inability to control a “critical” function in the event of the screen becoming inoperable. One reason I purchased a Frontier over the Canyon…if my screen dies, I still have ac and light controls. Love the truck, just one of those guys that aren’t ready for every single thing to be dependent on a centralized infotainment system.
You mean the 53k frontier pro4x that's equivalent to the colorado trailboss? Don't get me wrong, frontier is great truck. But it sure isn't a zr2 if you offroad
@@Jason-Samko Two things that separate the ZR2 from the Frontier. Front locker and the 4cyl motor. I owned the previous generation ZR2 loved it, spent a lot of time with it in Colorado and new Mexico on the jeep trails, never once used the front locker, rear locker used almost 60% of the time. The 4cyl motor in the new ZR2 not impressed, get rid of it after the warranty expires. A one legged man has to work twice as hard at an ass kicking contest compared to a two legged man. Fewer cylinders working harder to do the same work as a the v6. Had GM kept the v6 or even gone to a larger displacement v6 or even an inline 6, Id still have a ZR2 today. Love looks of new Zed but I would definitely buy a Frontier before buying the current version of the ZR2. Here in Texas the ZR2 just isn't selling. I'm pretty sure a Pro4x could hang with ZR2 with just the rear locker.
@Deezalmech use whatever you have to to justify it any way you want. I just bought a zr2 2 days ago. I did not buy the frontier. There are reasons for that matter to me. You find what matters to you
@@brandonedwards9812 I’m all in on a diesel also….at least they could give a few options. I’d always pick a v6 or v8 over anything…I don’t care if it has less HP or Trq…the 4.3 would be awesome in this truck or even the 5.3 v8….
@Getusom consider the hp and torque in This is more than a v8 from 10 years ago. And all the v8s of the past before that. People forget v8s had rimes of pushing as little as 175 hp to 310 hp for decades. This truck is pusing 310 hp with farrrrrr more torque than those trucks with v8s of the past.
Going to be trading my. Jeep Gladiator in , so far the GMC canyon AT4 is what I’m looking forward to getting. But also Trail Boss as an option. I love the ZR2 but my problem is it is too high for my Garage ☹️ but hey keeping my options open.
Be aware of the 2023 and 2024 Canyon and Colorado without the sunroof. Going through an automatic carwash it will dent the roof going through the dryer section. GM put out a service bulletin
@@robertedwards3822 Calm down. What I'm saying is that all midsize trucks are really worth maybe $30K, so at this price we should be getting some incredible technology and lots of power, however that will never happen.
@Jason-Samko 20:26 GVWR is 6250 lbs making it a Class 2A Vehicle(6001-8500 lbs). This makes it a half ton, the same as the 1500s, F150, Ridgeline, Ranger Raptor, Gladiator Rubicon, etc.
As early as 2026, all new vehicles will be mandated to have "advanced DUI detection" tech. GM has already been successfully sued for selling telemetry data to insurance companies. California passed a law requiring passive speed limiters starting in 2029 with 100% compliance by 2032. Anyways... I almost bought the ZR2. A lot to love. But from a tech perspective, it's essentially a "sealed" truck. You can't modify it at all. The government will be able to shut down your truck
@@robertedwards3822 The point is that you never truly own your 2024 ZR2 (see GM lawsuit) and even if it can't be retrofitted to fit whatever bs is coming down the pike--I think it can, certainly the passive speed limiters... it's a tech forward truck--you'll be hoping the ZR2 stays reliable. Cuz if it doesn't... in 5 years, there's a distinct possibility that the trucks of the near future will shut down if you recently used hand santizer or beep at you for going 10 mph over. These are regulations that have already passed and awaiting implementation, not conspiracies. All I know is that my 24 4Runner will go that distance. And it's way too ancient to retrofit future safety mandates. Just a choice I made. I know it's not anywhere close to as fun, zippy or spirited as your ZR2. Though prolly just as good off road
When I bought mine, the dealer actually said this: "Thats a functional hood scoop." Knowing it wasn't, I called him on it, asking "How, exactly do you consider that 'functional'? He says, "It's designed to not reflect the suns rays into the drivers eyes. Thats it's function" The meaning of "functional hood scoop" has changed alot over the years. 😂😅😅😂
Takes notes Toyota !!!! This is what we loyal Toyota owners wanted in the Tacoma!!!! But you failed us !! And GM now builds a more reliable and much more refined mid sized truck more power more technology for less money
I’ll stick with my non turbo V6 ‘22 Frontier king cab 4x4 with a 6ft bed. No frills, just pure four wheel drive reliability and dependability. Not a poser, overpriced mall crawler you can’t haul anything in the tiny bed. Btw, don’t take a new Colorado thru a car wash air blower unless you want your roof caved in. Yes, they’re built that cheap.
The way things are going in the world as of today may not have to be wanting a new truck. I need new brakes, shocks, sway bar links. The stealership wants 7K total to replace all they listed. I just LOL’d. Sway bar links 565 wut???? I can do that myself for under a hundred. Shocks 1700???? are they insane?
Trail Boss doesn't even have fog lights....No thanks. For what that truck costs and it doesn't come stock with fog lights(?!!) Ridiculous. An off-road oriented truck with no fog lights. Again, RIDICULOUS.

Inherited one of these from my late father. He drove it very lightly. I have driven it very lightly as well. Last year I noticed transmission fluid on the ground. Truck had 70K on it, ended up the torque converter weld failed. A very expensive repair for a truck that has been driven very lightly. Hood scoops, fancy shocks, big tires are not what makes a truck a truck. Sorry, Not impressed.
Had a 2023 Colorado ZR2. Biggest piece of shit LEMON. Turbo went at 3000km’s. Then one of the DSSV shocks went at 5000km’s. Then transmission kept blowing at 12k km’s. Had to get the truck towed 4 times. Turns out the main wiring harness had bare wires throughout. Thanks for an expensive piece of crap Chevy.
Toyota has engine blowing up and transmissions failing as well as other issue with the new tacoma and tundras. Going to take them a few years to work out the issues to have a reliable tacoma again. I definitely wouldn't buy toyota right now.

How much is the GMC version of this and what is the differences?
there isn't one.

Do u still have headlights if the info system breaks
Yes if you leave them in auto mode. Witch everyone should do anyway
Agree zr2 has it all and does it well
Jason, beautiful truck….but, in my opinion it will not hold up to the abuse you would put it through. But if you got one it would be interesting to see. I’d stay with the Gladdy!
Bought tina a zr2 yesterday. But I do agree if I ever take it over i will have to tone down the abuse a bit with it. But it sure is a wicked truck!!
Well, then again, the Toyotas aren’t going more than 2000 miles before their transmissions give out and the myriad of other problems they have. I’ll take the Chevy.

👍🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸👍 awesome
Like allways that Vermonter
These trucks have great platforms but they're riddled with issues unfortunately. Purchased a 2024 trailboss and have had nothing but issues. Really love the platform but GM/Chevy need to do a better job in that department.
Some of the issues i have experienced:
Roof dented in from automatic carwash (the roof is like a tin can and caves in from the air dryers lol) this was fixed and recalled via dealer
Turn the truck off and... it stays on. all electronics run for 5-10 minutes AFTER the vehicle is shut off due to software updates.
That last paragraph goes for any new teuck made today.
Still have ac controls and if your headlights are in auto mode like everyone's would be and the screen goes out it doesn't matter lights still work
@ I’m just a 35 year old “grumpy old man” on this one lol. Just give me a damn button and switch haha.
Btw congrats on your wife’s ZR2!
55 thousand dollars for a god damm 4 cylinder. No thank you. Buying a Nissan Frontier
You mean the 53k frontier pro4x that's equivalent to the colorado trailboss? Don't get me wrong, frontier is great truck. But it sure isn't a zr2 if you offroad
Or buy whatever you want to.

GMC Canyon AT4X over any Colorado, any day of the week
For some, for some not
As early as 2026, all new vehicles will be mandated to have "advanced DUI detection" tech.
And your point is? This is 2024 bud.
This should be brought to the top. More people need to understand the trouble they're getting everyone in
@@robertedwards3822 The point is that you never truly own your 2024 ZR2 (see GM lawsuit) and even if it can't be retrofitted to fit whatever bs is coming down the pike--I think it can, certainly the passive speed limiters... it's a tech forward truck--you'll be hoping the ZR2 stays reliable.
Don’t forget to inform people that the 2.7L has cylinder deactivation. You’ll be cruising around in a two cylinder 50k truck.

"Thats a functional hood scoop."

The meaning of "functional hood scoop" has changed alot over the years. 😂😅😅😂
Takes notes Toyota !!!! This is what we loyal Toyota owners wanted in the Tacoma!!!! But you failed us !! And GM now builds a more reliable and much more refined mid sized truck more power more technology for less money
