GO NISSAN!!! Rugged solid platform since 2005. An engine with a proven track record in reliability and durability AND a 7,000 RPM redline. No turbos, no hybrid. Fully-boxed ladder frame, rear disc brakes, full-steel bed, not the crack-prone plastic/fiberglass crap the Tacoma/Tundra TuRDs have. ALL GOOD here. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I traded in a 2005 Tacoma for a 2025 Frontier 5 days ago. Love the new truck, but in response to your comment re: bed materials, in the 19 years I owned the Tacoma I dropped rocks, sand, cement bags, logs and just about anything else you can think of in it and never had a problem with the bed at all. Just my experience. My new Frontier has the spray on bed liner and it seems pretty rugged at this point, so we shall see.
@BSBS-gk4iy Frontiers were ALWAYS equipped with rear disc brakes since 2005. Toyota cheaped out on 3 generations of Tacomas with weaker cheaper rear drum brakes, cheaper open C-channel frames and cheaper plastic fiberglass beds. They rectified this with the new 4th gen Taco, but cheaped out again with the disposable turbo 4-cylinder.

@spyder000069 I can see that. In my experience, a rear locker can be useful but is not necessary. I've been hitting trails since I was young and have rarely, if ever, needed one. Thanks for the review. I think I'm probably going to get a Nissan Frontier Pro 4 X sometime in 2025. I need something that can tow a boat for family vacations. What do you think of the Nissan Pathfinder?
I like that the pathfinder has the 3.5L and 9-speed as well, so the powertrain seems to be solid. I plan to do a review on one if I can find the time. How many people are you planning to take on the vacation? For me, with kids, I always like the full sized SUVs for vacations, but then they feel oversized day to day...
One advantage to going with a truck is the body on frame configuration when towing. this means as the trailer hits bumps it goes into the frame first which is somewhat isolated from the body. when towing with a unibody SUV, the body is the frame so the bumps from the trailer get directed straight into the body and it can be noisy. I still like to take my suv towing for short trips or where parking lot space is tight otherwise i grab the truck for overall comfort and safety.
@TheCarGuyOnline I don't have kids. I'd be meeting my parents and sister and her kids at a cabin up north in Minnesota. My grandfather used to bring his boat up there when i was a kid. I want to carry on that mantle/tradition for my nieces and nephews.
I think for the SV trim which is a lower trim model, it's expected to have a good tire (not great). V-6 baby. Dana axles. Same 9 speed that’s in the Mercedes van. Boxed frame. Built in America 🇺🇸 Toyota no longer the king 🤴🏽 with the Mexican built poor quality overpriced garbage 😊
Toyota has been building Tacomas in Mexico for the last couple of decades. Toyota has been building vehicles in Mexico for several decades. Read and learn.
@@dvader3263the problem is the power train. I owned a 24 Tacoma and the transfer case failed at 2400 miles. Never been this disappointed on Toyota. I traded the truck shortly after and picked up a used 23 off-road.
I believe there is an access port on the steel skid plate, but it would probably be easier if it was removed. The oil pan itself is further back and not under the plate, the oil filter would be the challenge with the plate on.
Naturally aspirated V6 is a good thing. Don't have to worry about turbos failing and having to spend 8 to$ 10,000 to replace them. Also having halogen bulbs is actually a better thing. You can always upgrade to LEDs or you can just get super bright halogen bulbs from Philips and they work just as well. Sometimes these manufacturers if their LEDs you have to replace the whole lens which cost thousands of dollars depending on the manufacturer. I rather have halogen bulbs easier to replace and cheaper to replace . Stay away from all the bells and whistles of a vehicle, because the more bells and whistles that have to communicate with those computer modules the more issues you're going to have down the road. The less features the more reliable the vehicle is going to be. These modern cars nowadays are all bad but if you get it with less gizmos your chances of having a reliable vehicle or going to be a lot better. Why would a manufacturer put the alternator so close to the ground where water can possibly get into it and shorten the life of the alternator? That's really stupid.
The only thing Nissan has done wrong is their option packaging. I wanted the brighter, better headlights, but there is no configuration where they are available with the long bed.
In the 2025 model they are offering the long bed on the Pro4x, so you should have the LED option there. FWIW, I put drop in LED bulbs in my old halogen lamps on my Sequoia, they actually work great, bright white light and much brighter than the already good halogens. Those cost around $65 for 4 LEDs. So far....I like the option of both in my old cars, but I do get your point. Many of the new LED headlights are very nice at night, but not much better than drop in LEDs as halogen replacements (In my experience). The LEDs tend to look a lot more modern though :)
Nice vehicle, like the screen, but that huge "FRONTIER" badge underneath that screen looks ridiculous. Should have made a badge about 1/3 the size and put it above the glove box.
Direct injection Only, can definitely lead to carbon buildup. The previous Tacoma "3rd gen" has both direct and port injection for cleaning. I don't really like my 23 Tacoma all that much but I believe it's one of those vehicles that will grow on you more and more as the years passed. I'll be happy as the most satisfied with my purchase 15 years from now when I pass the wrecking yard on the highway and see that bright blue Nissan perched up next to a 4th Gen Tacoma with that turbo 4 Banger in the Tacoma in pieces 😂😢 LOL it's a sad time for Toyota lovers
Direct injection on naturally aspirated engines will probably have less carbon buildup than a boosted engine. There have been some mechanics coming out and saying that the carbon buildup isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be...time will tell I suppose. I will agree with you from a simplicity perspective, port injection was just fine for me, and I'd rather just not think about high pressure fuel pumps and more things to fail/clean long term.
@@TheCarGuyOnline If I was buying a truck today. I would choose the frontier over the Tacoma, Ford ranger or the Colorado/Canyon. Especially now that the pro 4X is available in the long bed/ longer wheelbase equals smoother ride and better for hauling my motorcycles. @@TheCarGuyOnline I don't care for the proportions of my TRD off-road but at the time I had to drive 4 hours to get that truck. They only had six vehicles on the entire lot
I came razor close to getting 24 SV long wheelbase. The lease deal was no bueno on the residual being several thousand above probable resale value. Also not great seats, no defrost with manual slider, small rear seat area. Drove very well tho. Possibly best brakes in the segment. Ok fuel economy.
@TheCarGuyOnline looked at Colorado, no sales help, went to my Toyota store looking for a Taco with 4 doors and 6' bed. None available. Left with a 24 Tundra, TRD Sport premium. $6k off sticker, low lease rate, $3k cash over trade value. High 5s lease payment for 3yrs @20k/yr miles. I'm not worried about the crank bearing issues since engine was built after 5/24.
@@sharkskin3448 Yeah it's tough to get in to a new vehicle for much less than that, especially a full sized truck. You have a warranty and it's a lease, I'm guessing if you have proof of oil changes or get them completed at dealer, it would never be an issue even if you did have a bearing problem. How do you like it so far?
@TheCarGuyOnline I've leased 4 gen 2s, which doesn't make me an expert, but I always came out ahead. I was not a fan of the gen3 and it's issues/price; especially over MSRP. I followed a carcarenut (not plugging, but he's closest to an expert on YT for Toyota). Once I drove this truck, it was game over (at this price). I love all pick up trucks. I've been a contractor for a long time and had many, including 9 Fords and everything else except Ram (always a 2nd choice for me). This truck has great handling, acceleration, fuel economy, build quality, ergonomics (NOT perfect), and I'm hoping resale value. I have no regrets thus far. Too many compliments to count. I think every thing is over priced, but the Tundra has more value when counting extra cost options v. the competition. I'm glad I didn't get it a year sooner, tho. Many buyers got hosed after Covid shenanigans. Thanks for asking! You're a great channel!
Yeah the new models always come in higher...then drop later on. Guessing the same will happen with the 25's. I think there are some good deals on the 24's now.
I really like the looks of the Colorado and canyon. The 2.7L has been very reliable engine wise, the transmission has had some issues here and there though. It might come down to how long you plan to keep the vehicle.
They're bending towards this Administration, that's why Ford,Chevy,Gmc etc. all Suck! Trump will bring back gas prices back to normal and US Nissan owners are and will be having the last 😂😅😂😅😊😊
poor use of screen space. It's like they want to roll these 2025 out so bad so they slap bigger screen with older software. the camera is not even full screen.
The screen, for me, looks good in the dash, I suppose it's a matter of opinion. I like how it's not sticking up and looking like an afterthought, or like the dash was somehow built around it. I do think it's goofy they don't just put higher resolution cameras in them, it's a super cheap thing for Nissan to do. I don't care that the camera only takes up a portion of the rectangle screen, cameras are generally a 4:3 or 16:10 format I believe so it wouldn't make sense to stretch the image across this screen IMO.
Yeah on first launch every vehicle is like this though. Guessing in a couple months we'll see closer pricing on them, and really good deals on 24's which might be the best buy if you don't want a long bed P4X.
Buy a Ranger instead, great pickup....and support the USA in the process...profits stay here unlike profits from imports assembled here to avoid paying us tariffs.

6:09 If I'm behind the wheel I already know what truck I'm driving. The word FRONTIER slathered over the heater controls just takes away useful real estate. Hopefully, Nissan will lose that in the next iteration. No big deal in the grand scheme of things. It's a great truck. Love my 23 base model.

@@dvader3263the problem is the power train. I owned a 24 Tacoma and the transfer case failed at 2400 miles. Never been this disappointed on Toyota. I traded the truck shortly after and picked up a used 23 off-road.
@@dvader3263 and the 2024 is a completely different truck. Read and learn.🤭
Couldn’t agree more. Toyota has become a greedy and cheap fat pig.
Is it hard to change the oil? Looks like you'd have to remove two metal plates to drain the oil and change the filter?
I believe there is an access port on the steel skid plate, but it would probably be easier if it was removed. The oil pan itself is further back and not under the plate, the oil filter would be the challenge with the plate on.
You can sneak in through the passenger wheel well.
I change my own oil. Access panel on the skid plate 2 bolts. Easily change oil in 20 minutes😊
My question is, how much dose the leveling kit effect the mileage?
Can anyone give some input?
Thank you.
I would assume a leveling kit wouldn't affect mileage much, but increasing tires size would.
Unless I missed something, no mention of no rear A/C vents? Huge especially in the Sunbelt for both 2 and 4 legged critters.
Thanks for heads-up on led headlight cost. Does anybody have experience with the king cab? Do the doors rattle?
Nice vehicle, like the screen, but that huge "FRONTIER" badge underneath that screen looks ridiculous. Should have made a badge about 1/3 the size and put it above the glove box.
Yeah I'm not a fan of the badging on any of these vehicles inside, Toyota might have the largest/most obnoxious badging...
Not to say I don't love the Frontier. I bought a brand new one in 2012 and it was Awesome 😎 very simplistic and that's what I like
Direct injection on naturally aspirated engines will probably have less carbon buildup than a boosted engine.
The proportions of the short bed just don't look right at all and I'm determined to have a rear locker which is only available in the pro 4X so I'm really glad they made that change. If something happened to my Tacoma tomorrow pro 4X long bed would be what I was hunting down
@@TheCarGuyOnline I don't care for the proportions of my TRD off-road but at the time I had to drive 4 hours to get that truck.
What did you end up getting or liking more?
For anyone reading this, I don't mind questions about this truck and I'll try to respond.
The start stop is one of the worst things they. Could have come out with !
Yeah I hope they put the starter in a good location to replace :)
Still seems like a $35k truck for $43k, I’m not running out to buy one to be honest
Yeah the new models always come in higher...then drop later on. Guessing the same will happen with the 25's. I think there are some good deals on the 24's now.
I like Chevrolet but they suck by put 4 cylinders in midsize like alcanyon etc junk no fullsize should have junk 4 cylinder turbo junk
$43,000 is criminal for the SV considering you can get deals on Pro4X’s right now for 35k.
Yeah on first launch every vehicle is like this though. Guessing in a couple months we'll see closer pricing on them, and really good deals on 24's which might be the best buy if you don't want a long bed P4X.
you can get a 2 year old one for 27k with 20k miles, no reason to buy this
You can, but some people like new vehicles (I'm not usually one of those people). Each to their own...
No air vent for the rear passangers is such a dumb mistake on the part of Nissan. Most base model mid sized trucks have this stock.
They're under the seats, is they should've.
Buy a Ranger instead, great pickup....and support the USA in the process...profits stay here unlike profits from imports assembled here to avoid paying us tariffs.
Ranger is nice looking. Nissan is built in Canton, Mississippi. Much of the process and even engineering happens here too. They all import parts from other countries, including the big three
@@barrya.6212 NOPE. No turbo 4s for me, ESPECIALLY with Ford's terrible record with them. Blown cheaply designed head gaskets, overheating, etc. A HARD NO THANK YOU!!!!
@@craigslistseller9354 They resolved all those in 2019-2020 ....the new Ranger has the V6 turbo 2.7 option which has a 14 year history of bullet proof long lasting reliablility....many with 200K - 300K cruising along without any internal work needed.
Seems already outdated. This is MY opinion
Yeah I think they were following Toyota's lead there, Toyota is constantly loading the dash with huge lettering in some of the new Tacos/Tundras etc. It's sure a weird thing for these manufacturers to do.
Horrible color. Reliable powertrain but the truck looks ridiculous still because it sits like a lowered truck which actually makes the truck look awful. Why Nissan won't put plastic shrouds in the wheel wells is the biggest cheap cost savings mistake imho. No thanks Nissan even though good motor.
Nissan 🗑 garbage don't waste you money
2024 Toyota Tacoma is absolute GARBAGE. Nissan Frontier is the clear winner on the mid-size truck segment.
It did not feel like garbage to me :).
@@TheCarGuyOnline Totally agreed. 😊
