I put a Skinner peep sight on mine, one hundred yards in easy shot now. The sight fits the bolt pattern and uses the front sight.

I have a 45 colt big boy. I would like to add a Skinner rear peep site on the receiver.
It has the standard buckhorn rear and front site. Will I have to replace the front site ( taller front) to zero the rifle?

It might not be everyone's first choice for home defense, but it's what I'm leaning towards. I always loved the idea of a Henry Big Boy carbine being my first gun purchase.

The gun you want to go shooting with, the gun you want to practice with, the gun you like keeping around... That's the one you want when the chocolate hits the fan.

10 rounds of .357 magnum with the added power the carbine length barrel gives is NOTHING to sneeze at. This could be a VERY effective home defense gun.

I was browsing at the local gun shop and saw/handled one of these. It was all over for me. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since. Thanks for posting this video.

Love it from Canada but up here they are only a very few each year and you have to "know" someone to get one. Waited over two years and my someone got a Rossi 92 in and told me to come on down before it sold. I did and I bought and love it but still want the Henry

So, you guys are still allowed to have certain guns up there? I'm surprised Justin Castreau hasn't yet sent the military door-to-door to confiscate them.

Just bought one - very excited!
This is a good presentation: no hype, no artificial country drawl, no exaggerated sense of self-importance. Just a reasonable and straight forward presentation. Thank you!
BTW: You do not sound or act like a "gun nut" or a wannabe warrior, so I am guessing that your reviews will not be very successful.
    😅

I shot lefty for 4 decades. But for the last 5 years I have shot open sighted long guns right handed. It took a long time to actually feel comfortable. Today it's like 2nd nature to me. I'll probably go see the eye doctor one of these days, but I dont regret learning to shoot right handed.

The Henry rifle was nicknamed that to the 1873 Winchester carbine this itself was a compliment from Mr Winchester to Benjamin Tyler Henry the supervisor and gunsmith who added extra credits to this gun's final completion. But the reality is there never has been a Henry rifle manufactured on its own as a Henry rifle. And as we all know John Moses Browning had so many patents in collaboration and sold to Winchester to make this manufacturer one of the greatest of all times. Moving forward to the year 2018 when the prestigious surname Henry was purchased as a brand trademark . There is no Associated engineering or collaboration from Winchester manufacturing to this new firearm which by the way is sweet and perfect in its own right. I purchased the 1873 Golden Boy named in play of the yellow boy that the Indians had nicknamed and it is one fine jewelry and 22 magnum carrying 14 in the tube what a beautiful accurate and effective Survival Rifle this is or just itself is a plinker wow!. I share your love for this new manufacturer which is making some of the best Firearms we've ever seen that we see in this new modern era. When I was 10 years old in 1970 my dad has set me up to shoot the 3030 which really pounded the crap out of a skinny little kid I shot it twice and said dad can I just shoot the 22 and you said sure.

I've had good experiences with Henry rifles. The handgun caliber chamberings hit a sweet spot where the ammo is cheap enough for plinking (especially if you reload), but I can still classify them as "practical" rifles around the homestead.

Justin, I got aggravated by my sight degradation because all my life, before age 42, I had extraordinary vision, much better than 20-20. Then at age 42 my near vision went bad and has only gotten worse. Now, at age 68, even my far vision is going bad. I just shake my head…Thanks for sharing…from east Tennessee.

Wow! Finally a side gate Henry pistol caliber! I already own 2 Rossi 1892s and an Uberti 1873 in 357 magnum.
This is a little expensive but so was my Uberti.
Looking forward to seeing these at my local gun store!

This side gate loads smoothly too. Maybe more so than the Uberti, but I'd have to compare (hmm... future project?)

Talk about some shooting - nicely done, Justin! Especially given the circumstances!
With that heavier octagon barrel, those .38 Specials hardly seem to move the rifle at all. Sweeeet! Is the kick noticeably different or did you shoot only .38 Special? =)

Justin, Im a new qwner of a Henry 357 in steel . I also bought the bucket of Remington 38sp , comes out to about 65 cents a shot with tax. I know Henry doesnt recomend those 130 gr and I have some jams with Winchester loads. Are the Rems working ok for you ? Im going to order a Skinner peep sight. Wearing glasses doesnt work for me with buckhorn. Thanks.

Had a Henry .45-70 for less than a month, traded it in, no stores local to me stocked ammo and it's a pricey round to start with, top it off with the poor fit and finish with a razor sharp rear of bolt and it also came missing the brass front bead in sight. It wasn't a hard decision to let it go.

Just wondering about the home defense aspect of a lever-action rifle... Do you leave the gun loaded so all you have to do is cycle through a round? Or do you leave it unloaded and, in a moment of panic, try to shove a bunch of bullets into it? Either one seems problematic to me.
