  • I've quit my job, moved out of my house and started living full time in my self converted Ford Transit campervan.
    This isn't the usual sort of video I post, but here's an insight into what it's like living fulltime vanlifer during winter rainy days.
    I was in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney, Australia, during a few days of heavy rain with the aim of taking video and photos of waterfalls in flood.
    Stayed in Mount York free camp site and drove around Blackheath, Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls.
    Look out for some of my vanlifer tips throughout this video.
    0:00 Good morning....or something
    2:03 Packing up the bed
    4:27 Breakfast
    6:56 Mount York free campground
    7:50 Shower time
    9:04 Govetts Leap lookout
    10:35 Katoomba Falls
    12:07 Cooking lunch
    15:08 Wentworth Falls walk
    16:38 K Mart $6 tripod
    18:31 Night time street campsite
    19:56 Dinner or is it lunch
    21:36 Bedtime at 7pm

    Your crappy day still looked incredibly beautiful and peaceful. I had forgotten the name of Govetts Leap Lookout, I didn't remember I had been there until I saw it - it was so beautiful. Also was able to forage lots of mushrooms in the area.. some fun and some simply delicious. From a fellow van-lifer over in WA.

      It is a beautiful area up there. Maybe one day I'll make it to WA as well. A lot to see over there.

    Don't be so surprised. Some of us have a tad of discretion and we can appreciate a "genuine" human being. Very enjoyable video, thanks. 👍 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘

      Thanks for watching! I also have a series of videos on my van build which might be of interest. Some of them are hidden from the channel at the moment, but I will republish them at some stage, so be sure to check back later.

    Seen lots of solo women campers doing their van tours/channels so good to see an Aussie bloke doing the gig too.
    Hoping one day to get a similar van but for now it’s my Toyota Rav 4 and a 2P tent. 😊

      Nothing wrong with making do with what you have. Took me a long time too to save enough money for my van. You'll get there!

    I've just found your channel. Nice content.
    Personally I love rainy days as long as it's not too cold.
    You have a great set up. I hope to be doing what you're doing in the next year or two, over here in NZ.

    I watched the video all the way through Jason. They're always informative and give a real perspective on van life. I don't mean to be a busy body however, you are a homeowner and have the option to return at anytime or do you lease it out? Just asking, Cheers, Sean.

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  4 дня назад

      Thanks Sean! I've actually just sold my house, which was leased out (and still is after the sale 😉) so no, I don't have anywhere to return to. The van is my home for now.

    The Blue Mountains, is it a full time job your lifestyle?

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  Месяц назад +4

      Not really a job. I don't make any money from RUclips so just post the videos for fun. These long format videos are new for me but seem very popular so I will do a lot more in the future.

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces

      I rented out my house and living off the small amount of income from that. It's tight, but I'm making it work. Hence the need for unpaid camp sites....

      Actually, there's not a single comment I've deleted. You might want to keep in mind that RUclips does automatically filter out hate speech and anything that is seen as offensive. Sorry that you seem to think I'm a negative person. You seem to be the first one that has commented this way....

    Cool 🚐 life, even with its limitations, you seem to enjoy it better and experience freedom at a whole new level.
    A few things I'd do instead:
    9:21 1 spot space from the disabled one (better not to rely on their skills ♿)
    11:30 poncho, shorts, crocs (with good sole adherence), a full face see-through visor and go out like a wild man (save the umbrella for special occasions) 😎
    12:21 quick boil instead of frying: less smell, messiness and much healthier ❣
    20:24 swap high carb+fat meal with some simpler boiled meal (e.g. veggies, dumplings, soup) for better gut health/sleep... 🍨 ice-cream after lunch allows longer explorations, but at night will keep the bad bugs awake for hours 😅
    Cheers and keep up 🧗‍♂

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  Месяц назад +2

      Thanks for the very thoughtful comments!
      Agree with your comment on parking, though usually at these "out of the way" places, there are no disabled drivers...so I get a vacant spot next to me. I think I'd have to move anyway if someone needed to get there wheelchair out!
      The main reason I carry the umbrella is actually to keep the rain off the camera. I should add a little rain shield to it. You'll see on one of my other videos, the sounds goes funny when the camera got wet.
      I like your idea of moving my ice cream time to lunch. Could definitely help me sleep better. Just need to break my habit!

      @@MakingStuffGoingPlaces glad it might help! Budget solution for the camera: clear transparent bag (e.g. freezing bag) and duct tape or use an elastic around the lens?
