    I just got my new NLightD T90 (only 8 days from China to Ohio, USA, despite a major snow storm). Unlike Matt's sample, I don't find the bezel to be very sharp. What is sharp, though, is the square-cut edges on the lanyard hole - those can cut you easily.
    Otherwise, it's a great light. And Matt's discount code saved almost $40 USD.
    About the only thing on my wish list for this light would be readily-accessible programming pads to update it to the latest Anduril 2 firmware. (I haven't quite graduated to disassembling my lights to re-flash firmware.)
    Thanks, Matt, for a great review and side-by-side comparison. Keep up the great work!

    I love all of these tactical lights. I have a few and what I realized is they all get hot after being on for over 10 minutes. I want a bright light that won't heat up on the medium setting after 10 minutes of use.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 3 года назад +4

      I'm confused. Are you saying you want a light from 10 years ago? Those rarely got hot. Modern light lights are like Ferraris. They can go really fast if you want or they can go really slow. The choice is yours. Keep in mind you can't defy the law of thermodynamics. With modern leds (the most efficient, yet) you get the most light from the least power with the less heat. Just adjust the brightness to your needs. This is why ramping UI's are so good. You can fine tune the brightness to exactly what you want.

    I got the NlightD T90 during BlackFriday special and I'll tell you this: NealsGadgets has some great prices. A+ on Value most of the time. BUT... Orders often take a LONG time to be delivered.
    My first order, I placed with standard shipping & it took 1 month for delivery. Another order I placed & paid for Priority Shipping on Dec 12, 2020. It's now Jan 5th, 2021 and still has yet to be delivered. WARNING: BE PREPARED! NealsGadgets simply has very slow delivery speeds to the US! IF you can get past that issue and be patient, it's worth the purchase.
    @Matt Smith I thank you so much for your reviews! The NlightD T90 is fantastic and so is my Nightwatch NI40. My only complaint about the T90 is that the button is a little too easy to accidentally press. But they've got the wonderful Lockout mode which is very useful!

    I love the detail in your reviews Matt. Can you do one on the best tactical defense lights? Preferably ones with fast access to and very effective strobes? Something that can take a beating as a self defense weapon as well.

    • @NoNonsense316
      @NoNonsense316 3 года назад

      You might want to check out the Klarus XT21X (set to tactical mode). 4,000 lumen strobe from its XHP 70.2 emitter should be more than disorienting. It has dual tail switches - one for turbo, the other for strobe (if you set the light to its tactical mode, otherwise the switches have other functions) and a crenellated strike bezel.
      The Nitecore TM9K has a 9,500 lumen double-click to access strobe that changes patterns and frequencies every few seconds (extremely disorienting) and also has a crenellated strike bezel. On the downside, its built-in 21700 battery is not user-replaceable.
      Technically, any Anduril light can give you one-touch strobe, but it takes some advanced planning and setup to do it - not really 'tactical' at all, but possible.

    The beam shape and ringiness indicate that the emitter is not properly focused and sitting too far inside the reflector. Try layering some tape between the emitter/centering device and the reflector (i.e., raise the reflector a bit above the emitter) and see if the beam improves.

One can clearly see rings in the beam even on camera, and looking at the beam you could tell it is focused to a very short distance rather than focused to infinity ideally. @JasonWW2000 3 года назад

      @@cinfinitesimal1630 The rings in the beam are reflections from the shiny bezel, not anything to do with the focus. I also know from experience you can't judge focus based on where you think you see the X, or where you think the beam is converging. The true way to judge focus would be the sharpness of the hot spot edge as well as the light distribution in the hot spot. Trust me, I've experimented a lot and learned a lot of stuff that seems counterintuitive initially. When I was new to flashlights I would have thought just like you.

Your kind of stuck with the reflector geometry your given. You can space the reflector closer or further away to suit your personal preference. If your a number chaser and want to get the longest measured distance regardless of how the beam looks, it can be done. My personal preference is have the beam focused so it looks best. I may give up a few percent of range, but the range numbers are not that important.

      @@Buapo It's the wrong reflector profile. Reflector depth and cone angle are not suited to 90.2 emitter. T90 is supposed to be a thrower to compete with lumintop X9L, but it just can't. FET driver is not utilizing better cooling capacity of the head cooling fins, and reflector falls far short of what X9L can do. When it comes to compact 90.2 throwers it's between 9Xl and NI40, while T90 is more like a wide hot spot semi-flood type.

      @@Buapo It's not a manufacturing defect, the reflector has the same profile in other T90 videos/beam shots, so the reflector is either manufactured to bad specs or is being recycled from other design that was not based on 90.2. In any case, T90 is not a thrower and I do not see how the beam can achieve listed specs. It sure is a fail. Hope Neil will fix it.

      I'm not seeing the focus as a problem. You can see the well defined hot spot. That is what matters, not what the beam profile looks like in the fog. What you are looking at is the whole point of a flash light. Do you actually prefer the hot spot of the NightWatch? If so, I guess it is personal preference.

    Could you recommend a good flashlight that has multiple power levels but also either a red light or a filter that can be bought to make it red? Currently have the olight Warrior pro turbo, and it is nice but it doesn't have much functionality as far as modes goes. It only has two as far as I know and that means that it's quite limited. It would be a great tactical light if it just had strobe function on it. I would also be down for changing the chip in it if you knew how and could point me to instructions.

    I would prefer this light in a 26650 size. This would provide a bigger grip with more metal to draw heat from the head. The 26650 cell would typically have more capacity as a bonus.

    • @lordroo8484
      @lordroo8484 3 года назад +1

      BS. A 26650 is top wide for most people's hands. The additional metal is insignificant in terms of cooling since the battery tube is not /should not be part radiating the heat. The fins would not be bigger in fact since the shorter fins in the back would converge into the wider body earlier. And the body would be significantly heavier - but not in the right spot to help much in terms of heat capacity.
      But most importantly, the 26650 type is outdated. 21700 cells have usually higher current rating and mostly similar capacity compared to 21700. You will find a good 26650 cell that outmatches most 21700 cells, for sure. But the future is 21700.

    • @NCF8710
      @NCF8710 3 года назад

      @@lordroo8484 Too wide for 'most people's hands'? Seriously? A 26650 light has a diameter of about 1.25". Is that too wide for you? Do you have child's hands? I'm guessing that a D cell Maglite would be too much for you to handle. As for making the light 'significantly heavier', you've got to be kidding. The vast majority of a light's weight is in the head assembly. Any additional weight aft of the head assembly would only improve the balance. Have you ever handled a high powered light? If so, you would know that the handle portion also gets quite warm. More thermal mass helps, not hurts a light's performance.

    How much does the ambient temp contribute to runtime? Most graphs i have seen on the runtime for various lights has always been for room temperature, but can the turbo be extended during 0°C compared to 20°C?

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  3 года назад

      I've never tested ambient vs runtime, I doubt it would make a huge difference. After about 1-2 mintues the battery will be sufficiently warm and perform as normal, but on direct drive lights when the output is being measured in the first 30 seconds a cold start can have drastic effect. Also pulling batteries "hot" off the charger does the same thing in the other direction. As for extending the turbo you would get a slight gain at colder temps. The cell would not be pushing the emitters quite as hard, and the components start out cooler, but since the components heat from the inside out the gain would probly be only a few second.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 3 года назад

      It depends a lot on how hot turbo is. If Turbo can last 3 minutes inside at 20*C, not super powerful, a 0*C ambient temp and air flow around it outside can extend the Turbo runtime quite a bit. Maybe to 4 or 5 minutes.
      If your talking about a light who's Turbo run time is only 30 seconds, then don't expect much increase. Maybe 5 seconds or so.
