"Dont need a you and I" (UNI), uni is short for university in UK, so skipping lectures. "Dont need a me and u" (menu), cuz a chef doesnt need a menu at his own restaurant. Those bars went over my head first couple times i listened to aswell 😂
Yeah his life story is incredible and absolutely heartbreaking, you can’t help but route for the guy, especially since he has all the talent in the world
You gotta do We’re All Alone In This Together next…. Dave is the next Hov with his pen game but musically evolving every album…. Anyone that says Dave is boring is crazy
@@gemmirut6988 kano, skepta, p money, casisdead, slowthai, joe james, stormzy, kwollem are all more interesting not to mention the drill scene (favs are sus, rv, kwengface) has taken over that sound in england anyway
When I saw this pop up in my subscription feed I freaked out!! Dave is my favorite rapper, and he's legitimately one of the best artists in the rap scene PERIOD. Looking forward to more Dave albums
Dave is definitely one of my favourite rappers to ever do it. There are some really clever, and pretty funny punchlines across this album that i love - Screwface Capital is one of my favourite hiphop songs ever. Excited to watch this. Also explaining the 2 bars in Streatham you skipped over: “I dont need a You And I like Im in Leicester, skipping my lectures” “You And I” sounds like “U N I” (university/college). He doesnt need a uni, so hes “skipping his lectures” And then “Dont need a Me And You like when a chef would eat at his restaurant” “Me And You” = “ME N U” (Menu). A chef doesnt need a menu when they eat at their own restaurant. Just a couple of the simpler ones i thought youd appreciate
Dave is the type of rapper that will have a bunch of entendres, word play, UK terms, but you can hear his accent more easily than other uk guys. The beats are always a little subdued, but the way he kinda rides the beat is crazy+paired with some thought-provoking but still unique bars
The Blacker the Berry is a Kendrick song, yes, but it's actually a reference to a 1920s Harlem Renaissance novel of the same name. It's also more famously/originally referenced by Pac in Keep Ya Head Up.
Album is pure heart and introspection. Just for some context, its also named after his brother in the last track, Christopher's, therapy program in jail called psychodramme.
Growing up on Kanye, Eminem, Jay Z etc, when Dave came along in 2016 it finally felt like we had someone who could become a real superstar from the UK. He really has everything as a musician excited to hear what you think of this album.
I would also say, as a next UK artist to go for, I’d love to hear your reaction to Kano. Made in the Manor or Hoodies All Summer are both amazing albums.
The merc is a beast and I’m blackin it out, 1.9 on a plan for a house I ain’t got a memory of when dad was around, still a child when I turned man of the house.
Just caught this 9 months late but loved your thoughts on this project! Dave is such a great lyricist and is extremely powerful-tough listen but valuable
I've watched plenty of reactions to this album but his tops them all! This made me relive this album all over again and reminded me why it's one of my favourites. I'd highly recommend checking out Dave's following album We're All Alone In This Together. Great video and keep up with these reactions they're awesome!
If you looking for more good UK albums id definetly recommend checking out "Big Conspiracy" by J Hus, its got a little bit of hip hop, R&B, afrobeats, uk drill, etc, great project
I’m so glad that you finally reacted to Dave. He’s one of my all time favourites. You HAVE to do “We’re All Alone in This Together” next. Keep up the good work Bob 🤘🏼
You are real your honesty in your evaluation is real and heartfelt. Dave is real only the true listeners with there hearts open can relate. The is so much music some make us feel good, some bad, some make us feel nothing. Every now and again u need an artist that makes u feel beyond your ears and into your heart even if currently u feel not much value in the life u live one day your life can be a story that others can be inspired by . I really appreciate the reactions and your insights, and one thing to note (as you have already mentioned) is the cultural nuances both in the album, and the reception to it. One I would like to mention in particular is the cultural phenomenon that Location was. It was the anthem of precovid UK pretty much, comparable to smth like God's Plan or In My Feelings.
Would love to see you hear J Hus Album "Beautiful and Brutal Yard" never thought about if you need more context to enjoy that but i feel like it's an album you could just listen to and enjoy the music without any deeper knowledge of the UK music scene or life even though it offers some deeper layers if one gets more into it
Thanks for showing love to the UK, I feel like American culture is so prevalent and impossible to ignore but its rare that an American leaves their country and takes a look at us
I think his next album after this, we’re all alone in this together just improves on psychodrama in pretty much every way in my opinion. There’s so many great albums from uk artists
In Purple Hearts he says one of my favorite barz ever. "what comes fast never lasts" Is one a word play on sex, if you c*m fast u dont last. But a lot of things that come fast won't last forever. Look at all the rappers, movie stars, certain sports players who blow up out of no where and vanish two years later making them not last.
I know you get a lot of requests, but you should try to check out the Hip-Hop trio, the Flatbush Zombies. Their first mixtape “Better Off Dead” is a cult classic with grungy instrumentals and graphic lyrics. They mix in old school Hip-Hop, with modern sound, giving it a really fun listening experience. They’re very underrated but have had legendary collaborations since their mixtape days. Their studio albums are much more polished and more for mainstream.
There are a lot of double entendres and puns in Dave’s music that you can gloss over it but I would highly recommend going back and trying to figure out - you’ll like the songs much more

Every tune has a meaning or expression. For example psycho has 3 beat switches showing his mood swings. Remember it’s a therapy session.
