- I had the chance to meet the man behind the name and find out what makes him tick and how he built the company synonymous with BMW performance.
Strap in and go for a ride with Steve Dinan and his 675+ HP BMW M5. Then take a tour of the facility that designs, engineers and fabricates their own products for the BMW family of cars.
I have a new respect for the Dinan M5. He sounds so humble and down to earth, it's good to see he has a real passion for tuning cars
The best part about Dinan is that when you add Dinan parts to your BMW, it won't void your factory warranty. Well worth the price!
On yesterday, I was in a lane next to a new M5 with the Dinan badge on the back! It was blue as well! What a beautiful ride. What a growl as it rolled on some sweet 20 inch black out rims! As for me in my 335, I most definitely stayed in my lane! 😊

I’ve been a BMW fan for over 15 years now. Own Several M’s car but has always been using after market tuning parts like the latest tuner Burger Tuning JB4 and Cobb Access Port on my N54 engine. Currently own a 2016 M6 Competition Package, thought about going with JB4 tuner but then I went with Dinantronic instead. Man!!! It’s quality and the power curve is so linear and smooth. No hiccups whatsoever.... it cost 4 time more then JB4 but overall it’s worth it....
The best bang for the buck tuner company out there, bar none.

I grew up working at a BMW/VW/Mazda dealer. I learned how to drive stick on an 88 M5 and drove several Dinan tuned bimmers. At 16 I got to drive Porsche turbos, 67 corvette stingray convertible and aftermarket 60s cobra. One of my first customers as a salesperson in later years was Carol Shelby's company and got to see his private collection (in an undisclosed location). I love cars. I currently drive a 2014 VW GLI with Unitronic Stage 1 tune (210 to 260 hp / 207 to 297 tq) and I love learning to work on cars. My first DIY was engine/trans motor mounts and 2nd was a heater core. So I really love cars. Very passionate about them. Hope I can win the lottery and build my dream garage one day.

Steve Dinan is an example of person who disregarded any doubt from outside observers...and decided to follow what he loved in life. Now he has joy and money both. Not many people can be in this position. Because they follow fear and doubt while expecting joy and happiness in life... Might as well use an ice cube to cook a pork chop.
He speaks so eloquently. Just shows how much he knows his stuff!
All I ever hear is whining about how expensive Dinan is-.that is until you see all the engineering and what goes into their product. It would appear you get EXACTLY what you pay for and to me that's priceless. I do know the difference between quality and rubbish.. I will take quality every time. Thanks for the video clip.
Yep! All I witnessed in Steve's shop was A+ quality. His team is dedicated to making things RIGHT and not rushing a product out the door half cooked.

I have two things to say. What an artist. BMW would be please to be associated with a result so complimentary. And second is ' Rimutaka road' in New zealand. 16 miles from bridge to bridge with almost a mile elevation.
Sadly, shortly after this video, Dinan was forced to sell itself to an investment firm who brought in new management. Steve Dinan was forced out of the company he founded. He now works with the Chip Ganassi Racing Team.

Casey Weaver Steve opened up his own shop in San Jose and is still involved with these Dinan builds. Very humble guy and down to earth. His shop is currently working on my M3.

these guys oblivious love the physics and dynamics of making something that is already great brilliant and the way he talks about what they are striving to achieve only points to the fact that if you can afford them choose them as they are going to put every inch of effort into making your bmw a monster

I like your favourite track. I actually met you briefly at Mosport back in the mid '90s I believe. If I'm not mistaken, it was your first time at Mosport and if I recall correctly, you had gone off the track in turn 2 and were quite awestruck by the layout of the circuit. I respect the philosophy of your company.

I am a Physicist and own a Porsche tuning shop for 30 years, but when it comes to tuning my 550I M sport I use Dinan performance parts/electronics all the way! There may be tuners with slightly hotter programs out there, but they are not worth risking an expensive engine on……

As an owner of a Dinan Stage 3 E46 M3 I can testify the difference between that and a stock M3 is like the difference between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I have owned 4 Dinans and clearly the best Tuner without even feeling aftermarket - If you own a BMW and cant afford the more expensive gas, parts etc., and are calculating dyno numbers to dollars your not going to find a cheap upgrade. These cars arent cheap and neither is DInan. So complaining about Dinans pricing that is your problem right there, I would advise you buy a BMW private party and make sure it has the Dinan already on the car just be prepared to pay when things need service or break as they do on any vehicle. Dinan is pricey for the average Joe but if you look at what they do and see and have driven a stock BMW or Stock M series then drive the Dinan Stage 3 version you will appreciate the work. Also I know with many American Muscle as I have many friends that love them or even Nissan or Toyota type upgrades you can bolt on a bunch of stuff from autozone or the many online sites or the many online good distributors but the difference is DINAN feels like the car came from the factory with the DInan parts on. Take for example my current play car a 2014 370Z NISMO, first off I have had to do much more to it than what I got from the factory as a NISMO and NISMO does not make their own parts - they find good parts and ask to put their name on it. Take for example my damper bars all around my suspension, it says NISMO but if you look at the part it is Yamaha. I would dream to work for Steve Dinan - Best cars and best upgrades! #BMWDINAN

I had a friend with a Dinan 320i. It was beige and pretty cool. I doubt he still has it, but it would be a nice car to still have.
I still prefer the E60 Dinan modified M5.

How can I make my 01 bmw 530i ///M more faster like a m5 without turbo or supercharge
Take the back seat out and put in a JT9D turbofan from an old Boeing 727. Other than that, you're not going to approach the quickness of an M5 with a 6 cylinder; without using a turbo or supercharger.
Funny thing, if the M5 according to dynos it made around 640ish hp stock...so if this really is "just" 675hp, it aint that much more?

Same with the 530 hp M4... it's not a 100 hp gain, Dinan themselves say it dynoes at ~480 stock. But at least they say it.
Stock M5 makes 560-575 at the crank, not 640.
stock m5 makes 550hp or 575hp if u get competition package

I will forever love BMW, but I don't understand all of the hype around the m5. Why is it so popular?
Basically it's a luxury car which can comfortably carry 4 or 5 people with a big trunk. The part which makes that so amazing is that the M5 will do battle with some supercars around a track as well as in a straight line.

Dinan is over-priced. Makes me laugh. Their M62 performance intake manifold is nothing more than an M60 intake manifold from an older E38, yet they ask $1,000 for a part that costs $100. Same with their "brake upgrade" is from a 750iL and charge 2,000 for it. Trash. There are better parts for cheaper. Dinan is shit
