He never thought it'd be a duet; then he heard K.D. and said, "Yeah"...or something to that effect. She showed so much respect and awe toward him everytime they sang it; I really like the performance on Jay Leno. After he passed away, she put everything she had into this tribute to him. Thank you, Roy Orbison. Thank you, K.D., for being able to send him up by capturing part of his essence. Orbison was incredibly humble and would'nt want a media circus; similar to K.D. Neither self-promoted;. not a lot of showmanship and fancy sets. Didn't need it. So glad they collaborated; what a gift

Just...... Beautiful. There are different reasons for crying. For me, I cried for the loss of Roy Orbison. And I also cried for the beauty of k.d.'s tribute. Not just vocally, but how she captured and loved his soul.
I saw Elvis in 1976. And I've never heard a better set of pipes since. Ever since then, I've been drawn to singers. Not bands -- but singers. The good ones. The best ones. For a number of years in my youth I went to a lot of concerts. I saw Sinatra three times. Saw Dianne Schuur twice. Ray Charles. Ella Fitzgerald. Willie Nelson. Little Richard. Bono. The Beach Boys many times (excellent singers, whose harmonies are miraculous, plus a genius composer and producer, Brian Wilson). Many more. I've been a kd lang fan since the early 80s. After all these decades, I have never heard her sing _Crying_ solo until just now! The duet version with Roy Orbison was jaw-dropping to the extent that I was a little surprised it didn't either herald the second coming, or start a completely new religion from whole cloth! I always new there were versions of her doing it solo, and after the duet with Roy, I would sort of shrug to myself and think, "well I'll give it a listen someday if I happen to run across it. I'm sure it's... just fine." And so, after 40+ years being a big kd lang fan, including seeing her live twice (I'm pretty sure I'd remember it if it had been on the set list at either show, but you never know...), the miracle of her voice hit me again. I thought I was conditioned to it! Lol... I thought I was a _long-time-elder-kd-lang-expert-fan_ trained like a Navy Seal, to always be prepared for that kd lang signature power vocal, and the emotional power that comes with it: " *_The Wallup!" But no!_*_ -- kd's voice walluped me in 2023_ ! 😲👋.. .. So my thanks to kd, for the very unexpected, but wonderfully familiar, smack upside the head! 🙂
