No one should ever be allowed to cover a Roy Orbison song. Except KD Lang. She is allowed to sing any song, any time. Always.
I will say that the amazing Linda Ronstadt did a great version of Blue Bayou.
Raul Malo is ever so worthy of covering Roy Orbison. You should watch some of his videos singing Roy's songs, it just as amazing.
She's one of the most underrated singers of our time. K.D. knows exactly when to belt those notes and when to hold back. That's a lesson a lot of female over singers need to learn. I can 100% believe her heart is breaking.
Even Roy said she had the best set of pipes ever
I agree!!
Absolutely
Chillbumps in places.
@@oliviasimonich2386 Ya, really big ones!
Canadian here. Our absolute treasure. She is the best!!!
You’ve struck gold! Obviously Roy Orbison is the GOATbut hold on to your chairs. Her voice is perfection 💕
kd performing "Crying" is one of those rare examples of a cover measuring up to the original masterpiece. And Roy no doubt felt that way if you watch their duet of this song.
KD Lang is a powerhouse. I’m so glad someone requested this song. So many more to go!
KD is so under rated by the main stream. Only true artists know her pure talent.
She's well known and has been for years.
No she's not she's very popular
@@LinkRocksAnd Rolling Stone left her out of the 200 greatest singers....even further proof how out of touch that publication has become. 😮
She's Canadian and we know how great she is.
No one would ever suggest that I am a true artist, but I've been in love with k.d. music since the early 80s when she was belting out Patsy Clime songs as though they were intentionally written just for her.
That last note was ONE BREATH!
Yes, it was amazing!!
Damn! What a voice. I know this is Roy Orbison's song BUT she sings this like it was written for her to sing. In my mind this is not a cover, it is an absolutely perfect masterpiece of a performance.
She also did this as a duet with Roy....it was stunning. Canada has a treasure....Her "Hallelujah" for the Olympics was legendary!
KD Lang from Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦
She has an amazing voice!
I saw her live in a 4800 seat theatre. When she hit the high notes the walls shook. It was unbelievable.
K D LANG also did amazing singing "Hallejuah" at the close of the Vancouver winter Olympics 2010-2011. One of the greatest songs ever written. She is CANADIAN and the song was from Leonard Cohen, another Canadian.
what do you mean "she"
@@canarsie56 K.D. Lang is the best female vocalist who has ever come from Canada.
@@canarsie56 K.D. Lang is a female.
She is the most amazing singer!!!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE that performance
KD knocks this out of the park, I've watched her perform this song on other YT videos and they are all equally as powerful. She really does this song justice - it gives me goosebumps at the end
k.d. is a vocal miracle - her power and control are unmatched. But it's her quiet moments that break me.
Well said. She is a vocal miracle.
k.d. lang is a tremendous talent, and a wonderful human.
She is so talented and does Roy justice. ❤❤❤❤❤
KD was drawn to the great Pasty Cline, she felt that they had a cosmic connection ("Pasty spoke to me spiritually. This deep, deep connection"). She was the reason KD went into country music. In 1988, KD recorded the album Shadowland, with Patsy's iconic producer Owen Bradley. The album is wonderful, full of great tracks. KD also is on youtube performing Pasty's "3 Cigarettes in an Ashtray", it's awesome.
Shawn & Mel, you'll love K. D.'s "Constant Craving"!!
The whole album was amazing!
Definitely should do "Constant Craving"..
One of the worlds most extraordinary voices, just perfect. And yes, she deserved that standing ovation.
And as already mentioned, Hallelujah in Vancouver is jaw dropping. Love from Australia.
Now it's time to hear ROY ORBISON "Crying" w/ K.D. LANG .... AWESOME.
Yea, you followed yesterday's Roy Orberson song with Kd Lang version. Her voice is insane!! This was a tribute show and his wife was in the audience. Another great Canadian singer, she shocked country music with her first hit record and openly being Gay.
No offense but her talent stands alone in a class by herself, being gay has nothing to do with it.
@@chalmapatterson544 ...You don't know much about being gay, do you?
His name is Roy Orbison…..
In the U.S., her biggest pop hit was "Constant Craving." Amazing voice!
Biggest,& probably only real hit in the UK too.
She even got a writers credit on a Rolling Stones song for that song.
k.d. lang (she doesn't capitalize her surname or initials) is one of our national treasures here in Canada, and perhaps the finest pop alto/contralto since Karen Carpenter. As others have suggested, check out her cover of Hallelujah (or anything off Hymns Of The 49th Parallel), and also have a listen to her duo project with Tony Bennett...
Karen Carpenter was not in this league. Not close.
Love her version of this song. This performance received a 4 minute standing ovation.
KD knows how to pierce your soul with her voice. I used to have the biggest crush on her.
Ever since Constant Craving, (30 years ago!) I've loved k.d. lang, and probably always will.💖🎶✨
KD has a beautiful voice
She is an amazing singer. Her voice just soars to the clouds. Every song she sings gives me goose bumps.
Since you are such fans of Patsy Cline, I knew that you would also appreciate k.d. lang. She idolized Patsy and began to sing because of her. I saw k.d. perform this song live and the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I too was crying. We were all on our feet before the song was halfway over.
k.d. lang is an awesome talent. What a voice! Check out her hit, "Pullin' Back The Reins" too!! You can really hear the beauty of her tone in it.
I was lucky enough to see her in concert three times back in the 80's. Not only does she have an amazing voice, she is funny, and she challenges societal standards in a way that actually made people think rather than get offended!
Please, please, please check out KD Lang doing Hallelujah. She does such an incredible job of it!
K.D. I loved it so much talent
KD Lang is all kinds of awesome. And when she sings a sad song, she hits you right where it hurts. And it hurts so good.
Trail of Broken Hearts one of my favorite K.D. Lang songs.
I love K.D. and her version does the song justice. I highly recommend her song “Miss Chatelaine”.
I've always loved her voice. Absolutely beautiful.
Her voice gives me chills.
One of the most amazing voices ever!
K.D. Lang is a special talent. It's not just her voice, it's the control she has over her voice.
One of the great voices! You should hear her sing Hallelujah.
Golden voice. Her version of So in Love by Cole Porter is heartbreaking and Perfect
K.D. has an amazing voice!
like a bunch of others have suggested, the live performance of "Hallelujah" at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony is a masterpiece. k.d. has incredible control over her voice, you'll have chills
An older song of hers that gives me goosies is Pullin Back the Reins. She did an album of covers from the 50’s called Shadowland that is incredible - and had some pop radio hits
Love KD. Everything she does sounds amazing.
You said it, and so have I, many times! K. D. Lang's voice is like silk. She is my favorite female singer of all time. Without taking anything away from Roy, I think K.D. does it better. She sounds like an angel. K.D. used to sing with Roy in the past, but she has had her own successful career. You should check out K.D. Lang's hits: "The Consequences of Falling" and "Constant Craving".
kd is very underappreciated. You should also hear her do her Joni Mitchell tribute "help me". Or her version of
"hallelujah" (esp the one where she sings if for the composer Leonard Cohen when he's inducted into the songwriters hall of fame) or her version of "constant craving" or her version of "helpless" or her version of "so in love". Really any of her songs.
OR,OR ,OR…..
The list is long and amazing! She is an incredible vocalist and her live performances are as good if not better then her recordings!
The only other female singer that can give me chills like k.d. lang is the great Patsy Cline. Please do more k.d. She covers some great Patsy Cline songs as well……Leavin on your mind, Walkin after midnight, I fall to pieces, etc.
So glad you got to hear her. I could listen to her all day.
Best Canuck singer EVER!!!!
Love her, Listen to her sing Hallelujah!!!
Arms go UP when she hits those high notes....I love you guys ☺☺
Love your reaction
Now that you have seen both artists, now time to move to the DUET version, with both Roy and K.D... Roy was a K.D fan too.
Also, if you want another great K.D. Lang cover, I throw my hat in the ring for Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". I recommend the version she did at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010. It delivers everything this video did, and maybe a bit more... Maybe even a LOT more...
Yes!!! For both suggestions.
i agree 100 percent
KD is amazing, I think the first time I ever heard her sing was in the movie Dick Tracy with a group called take 6, it was a song called ridin' the rails.
She is literally one of the greatest singers of all time. With Aretha, Karen Carpenter, Whitney
k.d. is amazing. Love her so much.
👍❤🤙
I saw her in an interview and she was talking about her stage fright and how crippling it was and that she almost didn't pursue her singing career because of her stage fright and then she told herself that her voice was a gift for God and who was she to not use that gift she had been given , And the rest is history ! She has a very beautiful powerful voice !
That woman is simply amazing.
Lang's career received a huge boost when Roy Orbison chose her to record a duet of his standard, "Crying", they won the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals in 1989. At the end of her performance she raises her arm to Roy in heaven.
Her charisma is off the charts and effortless. Her voice is beyond this plane. I get chills every time i hear her.
I'm so glad you reacted to k.d. Lang! One of my fave songs is "Lock, Stock, and Teardrops", I hope you like it to❤❤
Now you need to do Hallelujah from Vancouver Winter Olympics. She is amazing.
She has such an incredible voice, my favorite performance was her singing hallelujah at the Olympics. Please check it out if you get the chance 🙂
She and Roy recorded this song together and it so gorgeous, you really need to listen to it. This is a beautiful tribute to Roy because he had an amazing voice.
Constant Craving is a great song. But you will be blown away by Miss Chaterlaine. Seriously
Yesssssss!
Thank you for bringing k d lang’s music back with your review. I’m glad you felt the magic of her beautiful voice. My girl crush forever… love you k d! ❤
Im so glad you found her. I just LOVE her voice, her talent.
KD Lang is an awesome singer, comes from Alberta Canada! We are sooooo proud of her❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
Truly, the most overwhelmingly beautiful voice on the planet.
I have been a fan for many years…she has never disappointed.
The duet with Tony Bennett, “Blue Velvet” is another one to blow
your doors off! I always love seeing the two of you, you are a
blessing…enjoy your week end! ❤️🔥🇨🇦
The most under rated female vocalist in the last 50 years, her tone and range is just bloody brilliant!!
Have been lucky to experience her live many times….she is amazing. A true gift.
She’s from Canada! We’re real proud of her up here. Willie Nelson calls her “PIPES” because, as he says ‘she’s got the best pipes in the business’ :)
One of the most gifted vocalists. Voice, depth of interpretation and emotional content. Amazing.
Kds voice is phenomenon love her voice shes awesome voice pitch perfect everything kd lang sings
Is sung with genuine emotion
kd lang and Karen Carpenter: The smoothest, most effortless voices ever. Thank you for your reaction to this powerful song.
She also has a great voice and a great tribute.
KD Lang is an amazing singer…her phrasing is impeccable as are her voice and breath control. She tells the story with such veracity that I feel every emotion. I saw her perform in our small northern city and she was as vibrant and committed as she is in a huge venue! I have such respect and admiration of this humble woman and her undeniable talent! Thanks for this reaction to her voice. ❤
KD Lang is an amazing talent and worked with Roy Orbison during his final years. She has an amazing voice and is well worth a deeper dive down the rabbit hole. She’s a Canadian treasure. 🌺✌️
Another one of our fabulous Canadian artists 🇨🇦❤ home grown talent ⭐
As a Canadian I grew up listening her was always on the radio and Canadian shows great singer
Saw Katie so many times performing in My Hometown in Canada....
We all knew back then that she was headed for greatness .... Thank you for sharing
I remember when KD first came on the country scene. She definitely was a powerhouse voice, one of a kind. She didn't actually know how to "fit" into the genre so she would wear hillybilly skirts and clothes that just weren't her. It was tough for her and I think she sort of went her own way. I didn't see her much. HOWEVER, she ALWAYS released wonderful covers of some of the greats - Roy, Patsy and others. Man can this girl sing. LOVE LOVE LOVE her voice.
Ohhhhh wowww. What a tribute 👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 That was beautiful. ❤🔥🎙🎼🙏
KD is so talented. Her rendition is so beautiful. Loved Roy too especially Only the Lonely and Pretty Woman. You guys are great too!
Please do I’d Lang rendition of Hallelujah. Will give you chills and scream amen. Song was covered by many artists but hers is the most heavenly version 💜
The voice like no other and so under rated by the industry
One of the most magnificent voices that God ever blessed a human.
Smart move. Classic. You should listen to many more songs from her. Especially Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. She feels songs and she makes us feel what she does.
KD Lang had an amazing voice. Thank you for playing this. She use to sing at the Grand ol Opry.
KD was on the charts when I was in my teens. She was sold as a country/folk artist. I was into hard rock and metal, heard her on the radio, tuned her out for the most. A friend sent me this a couple of years ago, I had no idea the woman could sing, let alone give me chills. Her rendition of Hallehluya at the Vancouver Olympics is incredible. She hasn't got much range, but to get on stage and sing with that confidence and power... Full respect.
Was about to mention her rendition of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics but seems like others have done so already. Absolutely, react to that. It's fantastic.
Thank you Mel and Shawn for this. Would love to see your reaction to KD Lang and Roy Orbison duet they did on Crying. That was so special….two outstanding voices. 😊🇨🇦
Such a beautiful, pure, voice. She started singing country.
I graduated high school in 1986; but I became a fan of hers when she performed at the closing ceremony at the Calgary Olympics in 1988. I have seen her perform live twice. Her discography is as varied as any musical performer can be. She is the best female vocalist in my lifetime. Her range; her power; her vibrato; her tone - it's all perfection. I hope you get to listen and react to more of her songs (Trail of Broken Tears just to name one). I really enjoyed watching you two watch and listen to her version of Crying.
Even though she’s from my era I did not appreciate her until a few years ago. Her voice is absolutely insane.
O.M.G.....This woman is Amazing.... Greatest from the very start...She had it when she was a kid with a beautiful personality n much fun...I loved her style n her witty Sense of humor... Thanks..
K.D. Lang has a deep well of powerhouse music. Take a dive in, you’ll be glad! Been a fan of hers since her appearance on Johnny Carson show. My perception of her music has changed as I’ve gotten older. Just gets better!
WOW is right, she's amazing!
