kd lang is one of the most criminally underrated singers ever. I was in 11th grade when this song was released, and it’s still hauntingly beautiful. I remember kd performed this song solo shortly after Roy Orbison died. Still gives me chills how she owned that song.
Yes Stephanie it is very sad. I am a broadcast engineer working in Canada. I have literally worked with hundreds of entertainers all over the world. I have worked with KD Lang several times on CBC-TV specials and award shows. She has always blown my mind. The solo you are probably referring to is one I was apart of in March 1989 on the Juno Awards. I was over the moon in November 1988 when I heard Roy Orbison and KD Lang were going to do their duo "Crying" live on the the Juno Awards. It would have been a highlight for me. When I got the sad news on December 6, 1988 it made me sick and tore at my heart. Can you imagine I would have been standing literally a few feet from them singing this piece at rehearsal. I am so glad to hear that there is someone who also agrees with me. I was standing beside KD Lang just to one side of her when she rehearsed the solo you spoke of.
Here I sit, an old woman of 75, at 2:30 in the morning and k.d. lang and Roy Orbison have shoved me off that old cliff of regrets and tears. This captures life perfectly, even if we're not talking about love, exactly.
And here I sit in Hoi An, Vietnam, an old man of 75, at 10 pm at night listening to the great Roy Orbison and K.D. Lang. My faint memory of first hearing Mr. Orbison was buying a 45 at a record store in Northern Virginia when I was I believe 13. It was Pretty Woman, my least favorite song of his. He was such a gift. It was almost as if he wasn’t singing.
Roy Orbison had one of the top 3 incredible male voices ever - his range was phenomenal, then comes KD with her powerful voice, so strong but they worked together so beautifully. What a great duo.
kd was a big fan of Roys. She did this song in a televised tribute to Roy in Feb 1990. She sang this song so well and with so much emotion she received a 5.min standing ovation. You could Google it if you get a chance. Purely Awesome!
I played Roy on my 8 track throughout my teen years. Today, nearing 73, his voice still gives me chills and makes my heart hurt over him being gone. Thank you Roy for all the treasure you left us. RIP.
Black and White Night was the best performance of Orbison's career, during which I'm sure you know, KD Lang was one of the back up singers. Roy's solo rendition of "Crying" that night was flawless. Lang pours even more emotion into that song than he did in her subsequent solo performances of it, and her voice is unbelievably clear and strong. Two spectacular talents.
I watched Roy Orbison sing this song in 1965, when it came out - loved it and still love. After age 80 plus, I thank God for this version ... my own reasons, not political.
It’s easy to understand. The power it is within this song. Cry yes cry. I lost my mother a few years ago and there’s nothing else like losing your mother. I never knew that till I lost her. Crying, crying crying. You’re lighter. I’m still crying I’m still crying…
So lovely in this age when 99% of popular "singers" melt there eyes away screaming at the top of their lungs, to listen to these two consumate artists.
I Agree with you Robin. A friend and myself went to a K.D. Lang Concert in Melbourne a few Years Ago. She was Absolutely Amazing and Everyone Enjoyed it. 😊🤙🙏
I'm amazed his voice stood up as long as it did. Not many singers can still hit those high notes of their 20s so flawlessly in their 50s! This was released the year of his death.
It doesn't get much better than that. And wasn't Roy gracious in giving KD plenty of room to do her thing? And then the sound of those two once-in-a-generation voices together was stunning.
I love K.D.Lang and she is so talented . Where is she hiding ? With such a angelic gift if a voice that speaks to the soul in innocent waves of simplistic peace and love and empathy .
I have always liked this song sang and written by Roy Orbison his voice is definetely his own. Nobody could mistake him with any other singer. However that said, I think that this duo, Orbison and Lang made it more emotional that it was (if that is possible at all). A great, great version of that already wonderful song.
I love this duet! These two voices - their two voices - have interesting similarities and ALWAYS soul piercing emotions! LOVE IT! KD! Bring it home! Roy is on his voyage into the infinite. We are lucky to still have his music! SING ALONG - without crying if you can! Not me, baby!
Brilliant writing. Brilliant vocals. Brilliant music composition. Two geniuses - we, the music world is SO, SO, SO FORTUNATE to live to hear either one, both, both together during their lifetimes. The harmony is BEYOND PERFECT.
K d Lang has done well and her voice is a gift. Roy Orbison is a talent too, the two together have strong vocals. Great talent, thank you for sharing your talent with the world. 🇺🇸🌹
Simply perfect. Voices, lyrics and the video with that intimate black and white contrasted scenes. Wonderful light. Stunning phtography. As I said, simply perfect.

Also... The best version of Cohen's "Hallelujah" ever.
Both underrated! Unreal talent!
The most you can ever do..own it!!!!
Here is a match made in heaven and we were blessed that they came along in our lifetime.
Hello how are you doing?
I’m just so sad that she is no longer performing. She is one of my favorite voices of all time.
Two of the most beautiful voices together. They were phenomenal ...............
Here I sit, an old woman of 75, at 2:30 in the morning and k.d. lang and Roy Orbison have shoved me off that old cliff of regrets and tears. This captures life perfectly, even if we're not talking about love, exactly.

The power of beautiful music 🎉
You aren't alone....
64 and 2:42 in the afternoon~ this Lovely Lady feeling this deeply too.
That is truth.
K.D. Lang voice is the perfect storm of tone, range, control and emotions. K.D. has no equal!
K.D. Lang's voice is the perfect complement to Orbison's. This song always chokes me up.
Me too

Not old if you love Roy...just magic
Roy Orbison had one of the top 3 incredible male voices ever - his range was phenomenal, then comes KD with her powerful voice, so strong but they worked together so beautifully. What a great duo.
Hey how are you doing?
Elvis used to say Roy was the best singer ever!
@@madelynolivier3469 Nice meeting you here where are you originally from?
Two of the best voices the world has ever heard, together
Streisand and Barry Gibb come to mind, as well.
@@nasdaqua I totally agree . Both had fantastic voices too

As part of the tribute, she wore the dress from Black and White Night.
I played Roy on my 8 track throughout my teen years. Today, nearing 73, his voice still gives me chills and makes my heart hurt over him being gone. Thank you Roy for all the treasure you left us. RIP.
And I at 85 moved by the words and the voices brings back past. I am moved❤
These two were made to sing this song together. No one does it better.
One of the best duets I’ve ever heard.
AMEN!
k. d. LANG AND ROY OBERSON MIXED IN FILM. Wow ANYONE still listening July2022 🎶 ❤️
It's 2024 and I'm listening
What a duet. Just unbelievable. We are lucky to have this video.

Politely agree.
Completely.
So why am I commenting?
Right, cuz it was spectacular.
I must own 40 music dvds, and Black and White Night is hands down the best…magical… and kd lang is an unbelievable ‘find’.
Couldn't agree more
……Elvis Costello was also a backing artist on that Album……
Dwight Yokum also backing on the Black & White, brilliant show.
If you've ever had a broken heart, this song start you crying!
The Best rendition of this song Ever! Absolutely Lovely.
I watched Roy Orbison sing this song in 1965, when it came out - loved it and still love. After age 80 plus, I thank God for this version ... my own reasons, not political.
There are no adequate words to describe this
No there are not.

This is the best Crying that Roy performed. There was a peace about him and KD amazing voice dead on. 💕🎶 RIP
😢Crying as this song plays
It doesn't get much better than that. And wasn't Roy gracious in giving KD plenty of room to do her thing? And then the sound of those two once-in-a-generation voices together was stunning.

KD Lange ROCKS! Roy Orbison simply magnificent. What a voice!
It's not often someone can come along & add to someone's signature song. She did. One of my other favorite female singers Patsy Cline. Gone too soon
Perhaps the best ever duet!!!

Roy's songs have the emotional intensity of opera arias.
