One of the few artists (ever) that sounds better live. KD Lang is an astounding talent and an absolute privilege to see in concert.
My thoughts exactly r.n....just heavenly...
Pitch, attack, release and control. For those of us who sing, a revelation. For those of us who listen. Sublime.
Almost every chord is suspended giving her an amazing pallet of notes to choose from. When the C major finally shows up it's a an absolute relief and then it goes right back into tension true to the song's theme. A sublime song written by a sublime singer.
To say nothing of microphone technique. I'm 99% sure that's an AKG C414 she's singing into - you almost always see them on stands and/or in a shock mount because they are very sensitive pieces of equipment. She's not only using it as a handheld, but is doing so flawlessly - for those of us who know the gear, the degree of voice control and positioning nous is truly next-level.
Yeah, it's beautiful. The backup singers are nailing their parts too.

Which chords are suspended? There's a Bbm11 or Db/Eb that I hear along with Fm, Cm and Db. No C that I hear. just on the verse, Am I missing something?@@scottkingsley8037

This entire audio recording was flawless, and KD's voice...good lord. Pitch perfect, clear as a bell, and every choice she makes as a vocalist is nothing less than on point.
I had forgotten how MUCH I loved this one! I heard it in the store and couldn't wait to post this incredible song.

Put down the rose-tinted goggles. Those days didn't exist. There were many artists in decades past that either had a similar sound or record companies purposefully found similar artists because it made money.
Having said that, unique singers still exist to this day. You just have to avoid Top 40 radio... just like in decades past
Sometimes a singer's voice is so wonderful, it can touch your soul.
Sadly this modern era values sales and sex appeal according to the music providers. Sad loss to our culture, think how many other KD's out there are not given a chance this day and age to grow beyond a sales chart or lost in an y**tube algorithm hell.

Notice how far she is from the microphone? A good foot to a foot and a half, and she's not even pushing her voice! All that talent and phenomenal vocal ability, rolled into a humble person. Personally, I find that extremely sensuous and attractive.

I also have to hold the microphone away or I’d blow out the speakers because this is our exact tone and chest voice. I have trouble with some of the higher notes of many female artists but this is comfortable and a great song to really belt out. I also love Mary Chapin Carpenter.
I have always loved K.D. Lang. She has one of the most exquisite voices of her generation. Her control, tone, and the range of emotion she is able to emote in her performances never fails to impress me. A wonderful artist. ❤️

And to further illustrate her genius, she infused instruments that aren't normally associated with popular music, such as the accordion. I love her pure talent and this gift she has given us. Also, she appears to be a very likeable, sweet, and decent person. Somebody that, when you first meet them, it's like you've known them all of your life.

I’m 64 and remember just loving to watch K.D. sing this song in the ‘80’s. Thank God for the flood of music videos that started then. I’m so glad to find this live performance. No bizarre ‘Waiting For Godot” nonsense video. Just her. This song never loses its original impact. What a beautiful being. What a great talent. She’s very special. I can’t imagine anyone not feeling love for her. Not many in the public eye I could say that about. Rare, whatever she is.

Those guitars, then the accordion. Perfect. Then the lyrics by that voice. In theory this song should register a 2-3 on my scale as a hard rock guy, but it’s just perfect.

first time I saw this I was so fascinated by her stage presence and charm....wasn't even sure if she was female (no offense). I found her very attractive and was totally struck by her voice as well.
