      @@mikefreitas1331 I think that's my next fin video, I already have video started I just need to glass the fin and add the fin tab. I don't have a board that uses single fins so they haven't been a priority for my. But I have a couple boards planed that will use them so I'll be making more of them in the future.

    Good video, thanks! One question: Did you use three layers of fiber fabric on each side? From Brazil Aloha!

    • @WaveWasters
      @WaveWasters  Год назад +1

      Typically for twins I usually use 3 layers on flat side(inside) and 2 on the foiled side. I also use 6oz cloth for 4 oz you would want to add more. Depending on the type of wood core and the grain orientation you may get away with less. But usually when I've used less than 2 layers per side they eventually crack or break.

    Nice,
    Are you glassing both sides at the same time or letting one side dry first..
    I've tried and failed twice.. Trouble with the tabs

    • @WaveWasters
      @WaveWasters  3 года назад

      What trouble are you having with the tabs?
      I have been glassing both sides at the same time just to save time. How ever doing one side at a time can gives better results. When you glass one at a time I found it worked best if you trim the first side with a little over hang so when you glass the other side there a lip to collect resin which cuts down on bubble on the edges of the fin. If you want to do both at the same time vacuum bagging can give really good results which is something I have been testing out.

    I'm wanting to try glassing a pressed flower on a homemade longboard fin...have you tried anything like this?

    • @WaveWasters
      @WaveWasters  Год назад

      I haven't tried it yet, it's something I would like to try though. I've seen people inlay them into boards under the glass. Depending on how thin they are pressed I could see it working under the glass for fins if the flowers are small. If you can't get them thin enough you may have to try casting them in resin in a cut out of the wood so it's like a little window in the fin.
      If you try it let me know how it turns out, I'd love to see the finished fin.

      @emmyrank4409 Год назад

      @@WaveWasters ya as I’m experimenting I don’t think I can get it thin enough to lay under the glass so I’ve been playing with the cast resin idea…do you think the resin window would crack because of the difference in flexibility between the wood and resin? Thank you for the input!

    • @WaveWasters
      @WaveWasters  Год назад

      @@emmyrank4409 I don't think it will crack but its always a possibility. Once you glass the fin it will even out the flex difference between the wood and resin to help prevent cracking.

    I know this is like a year ago but thank you for this video, do you remember the pattern name?

    • @WaveWasters
      @WaveWasters  2 года назад +1

      I don't, it was some fabric I found in the quilting section of a fabric store. If you have a local fabric or craft store they probably have some cool patterns, just make sure its 100% cotton.

      @@WaveWasters Good to know my guy. 👍👍👍 I got the idea to do denim after thinking about it. I think it would be dope.

    • @WaveWasters

      @@InfernoByrd1Hahaha I've been thinking the same thing. I have some old work clothes that are falling apart, I'm planning to use them for denim fins.

    • @InfernoByrd1
      @InfernoByrd1 2 года назад +1

      What if you got some cheap fabric and just fiberglassed a whole board with it? 😯😯😯

    • @WaveWasters
      @WaveWasters  2 года назад +1

      @@InfernoByrd1 It would depend on the fabric type, and weave as well as the board construction. A cheap cotton fabric would not give the same strength as fibreglass. But you might be able to find a something with similar strength just may not come in fun patterns. Denim might be one but it can be pricey. Alternate material boards/constructions is something I'm really interested in that I think surfing could really benefit from. I have lots of ideas on this to try but currently I don't have the extra funds to try them. I have to balance crazy ideas with what I know I can surf without to spending to much lol.

    How thick is your fin stock? also how thick is the part that goes into your mold?

    • @WaveWasters
      @WaveWasters  2 года назад

      Roughly 1/4" thick then I take the tab down to aroun 1/8". You want it thin the tab enough so the added fiberglass layers will fit in the mold.

  • @Bido11561
    @Bido11561 3 года назад +1

    How are the tabs connected to the base of the fin?

    • @WaveWasters
      @WaveWasters  3 года назад

      The fins are made with the tabs shape on the fin I then mold the correct thickness of the tab onto the fin a long with the angle.
