I Broke My Surfboard fins So I Remade Them

In this video, I remake a set of keel fins that I broke. Except for these fins, I built them using maple branches from a tree that fell down and black epoxy resin. To build the fins I poured the black epoxy resin around the branches to make a large block. I was then able to cut out my fin panels from the block. After I had my panels, I went about making the fins as I usually do.

Can you give some more details on how you kept the cant when you cast the base?

Thanks. The can't angle is cut on the inside of the fin, on the tab. I also thinned out the tab so when glassed it would be thinner than the fin tab grove of the mold. The screw is on the outside of the fin(opposite of the cut cant angle. When you screw the in the bolt it pushes the fin tab up against mold and sets the fin angle. When you screw the bolt in its just enough to push the fin against the mold to much and you can deform the mold.

The fit tab casting doesn't look much like ruclips.net/video/qkVutYonQhM/видео.html , can you go into some more detail what the difference is that you did here? Also what is the alan screws for? Also why are you adding cant if they are not glass on's, isn't the cant decided by the Futures box? Thanks.

Same idea these mold are just made from HDPE to make them more ridged and to make them last longer. The Allen screws are used to hold the fin up against a side of the mold so the fin is held at the cant angle that is mill into the fin base.
Futures boxes the cant is in the fin not the box. If installed correctly the boxes should be at 0° in the board. Some shapers may install them on angle to give fins extra can't but typically they are installed at 0°.

FCS the cant is decided by the box not the fin so then your limited to what the shaper puts in the board. Which limits you a bit unless you can find/make FCS fins with cant built into the fin.

Do you mean at 20:14. That's the step where I cast the fin tabs. It makes the tabs close to the thickness needed to fit into the fin boxes. After that its just hand sanding the fin tabs to final thickness and cleaning up fins.
