Thanks for the video mate. A question re the fin panel; did you lay it all up at the same time, or did it get too hot? Re shaping the fin, I used to use a 9" grinder. The hard wheel allows easier regulation of the chamfers. Then I used a soft wheel to finish it off. You sound Aussie?
G'day Jim, wrote a whole reply and the phone went dead as I pressed ''send'' 😆 With the fin panel it's all done in one go but I do only mix about 200ml at a time just so I don't have resin going to waste kicking in the pot before I've used it all. From memory, this panel took about 600ml of resin total with the chop strand in it so apart from pausing to mix two new batches of 200mls of resin, I just keep ploughing through. Heat isn't such an issue with fin panels because the layers of resin are so thin and it's only catalysed at about 1%. As far as the grinder goes, it's a waaaay more ideal tool for foiling than the orbital for sure. The only reason at this stage I stick with the orbital is because it's got the vacuum attachment. As ideal as the grinder is, without an extraction system it's very messy, covering me and the workshop in dust meaning I have to spend time cleaning everything after foiling and the rest of the day scratching at all the fibreglass shards lodged in my pores. Not to mention the potential of breathing some of it in, even with the respirator. I definitely have future plans for a work station with extraction for foiling fins.
Hey bro id buy your rugpull coin hahaha Posca pens are great they make lines like my ex gf hahaaha I got a jigsaw blade with the edge like a angle grinder disc it cuts through fin blanks like yours no problem did it for a many whole 3x3 ft blank of many fins and still going strong Loud as loud gets though will need hearing protection! Does save a tonne of work using the jigsaw so would be nice to fine something that works. I've actually got a chess table top to make out of fibreglass so it would be very useful for that project
A Laminate Trimmer - I'm jealous :-) Edit - What video editing software do you prefer ? I noticed a huge speed difference between them when I tried a few out.
@@smallkinedings MacBooks are expensive,. and according to my Mac friend, the new ones are problematic. Would you ever consider going back to Windows ?

In the big scheme of things, I spent 2 grand 10 years ago so investment wise it hasn't been bad at all but it's a lot to lay down when this one finally gives up the ghost. Certainly not opposed to windows, would just have to keen premier pro for the editing I suppose

Get a ceramic jig saw bit, they cut out fin panels very fast

My favorite tool here I think. I use final cut pro at the moment. My 2013 MacBook doesn't help things. It is dying a slow death all these years later

Great video, fins are so customizable. Separate batches of resin or less catalyst as I imagine it takes awhile? 🤙🏼
@@allsurf good fun if the time is available! I normally mix batches of 200ml at a time, pretty slow catalyst ratio because yup, it's pretty slow going
